newer games are starting to need more ram. and my thought on the matter is...its never a bad idea to have overhead on something important like ram, just in case something spikes in the background while im gaming i dont want it to slow down or crash my game. but thats me and my preference, hell my new build im already starting with 32gb of ddr5 that will run in dual channel, and im debating if i want to buy another 32gb pacakge of the same ram and just say fuck it and go 64gb total. my motherboard can support up i think it was 96gb with four ram slots. sometimes i like doing stupid little because i can things even if i dont get use out of it, its a case of its nice to know its there lol.

Ig it explains why my g.skill aegis 3000mhz with timings of 16-18-18-38 doesn't want to mix with my corsair vengeance lpx 3600mhz with timings of 18-22-22-42. Or then again it could be my motherboard(tomahawk b450 max 2) or cpu(ryzen 5 3400g). 16gb is enough, but I had bought the other ram before I bought a good gpu.

if you havent already just upgrade yourself to a new ram kit up to your desired 16gb and swap it out. figure out whats compatible with your motherboard and ryzens love dual channel to work better. never handicap good hardware, leave that for the prebuild companies lol

How do I install 2 pair of ram with different speed like 2666 and 3200 mhz in the motherboard slots?
@Torqcx
2 жыл бұрын
As mentioned in the video, if multiple RAM modules with different speeds are installed in the same system, they'll be bottlenecked to whichever one runs slowest. So if you installed one running at 2666MHz and another at 3200MHz, they'd both run at 2666MHz.

So my laptop has a 16 gb single channel ram (2933mhz) and has another slot for 16gb which is empty. So if i buy another 16gb (3200mhz) ram and just manually install it, will it run in dual channel mode just like that? (Yeah the 3200 will be downgraded to 2933)

Hey love the Vid it was really helpful! I'm building a pc now that I use for video editing/ photoshop and while I do that on my second screen I have an unhealthy amount of google chrome tabs constantly up and running like 50+ at times. I'm going with 64g of ram but I don't know what speed I should go for. The one I'm looking at now is a G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4-4000 CL16 Memory. My motherboard can handle that but do I just go for a DDR4-3600 CL 16 instead? Any thoughts?

Most modern motherboards are going to suggest inserting the first two in slots A2 and B2, so personally I'd put the 32GB modules in those, the rest in the remaining slots (A1 and B1)

If mixing ram brands (two kits of 2x8gb) which dims should be they be in? Should each brand be in its own channel or should I put one of each per channel? Im guessing the latter would be best so each channel has the same configuration but I dont know.

Each one per channel, always. It can't hurt, you might as well attempt to get your RAM to run in dual-channel mode.

If you have multiple sticks, try them in multiple slots; some motherboards have issues with specific configurations. Other than that, unfortunately, that just may be a bad slot (unless you just have to clean it)

Hello I need help, my pc has 2 ram slots the first one works like a dream I recently bought 2 new sticks to go in the slots, one slot is fine but the second one isn’t like when I power on my pc it won’t do anything it will power on but nothing will come on
@Torqcx

Try each individual module in each individual slot, one at a time to determine whether you have a bad module or slot causing the failure of the system to boot. You can also try cleaning the slots with the compressed air, sometimes dirt and debris or even dust can completely stop the system from detecting the RAM

So, I have two 10 year old 1gb rams lying in my own pc, if I keep my current 5-ish year old 2gb ram in A1 and put those two in the other slots would they work, and if they do how would they work? Yeah, I know it’s a poor man’s pc.
@Torqcx
2 жыл бұрын
You can certainly give it a shot, there's no harm in trying! If they all work, you should get about 4GB of single-channel which is significantly better than 2GB of single-channel.

hey Torqcx, i have a laptop with 8gb (4gb+4gb dual channel) RAM. I want to upgrade the RAM but one of the 2 RAM sticks is already soldered to the mainboard so that i couldn't detach it. If i'm still going to upgrade, then i would probably have 4gb+8gb RAM on my laptop. Will the performance increase or is it still going to be the same before? or even slower?
@Torqcx
2 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't be any slower, having more RAM in that case would still, overall, be faster; remember, even if one of the modules has a higher capacity than the other, half of it will still run in dual-channel mode rather than none of it.
@theodhorenathannius1282
2 жыл бұрын
@@Torqcx so if i presume, with 4gb+8gb configuration means that i will still run 4gb+4gb (the half size of the 8gb ram stick) on dual channel and an additional 4gb (from the rest) on single channel? And from this ill get more performance rather than performance drop?
@Torqcx

@@theodhorenathannius1282 correct! Again, in that particular scenario, I don't see how increase to the total of 12GB could possibly drop the system's performance. It's all an upgrade
