My "master" function is not working for sorting keys. I've tried it in performance and export and on all 4 decks. I do not have the 'mix in key' add on yet to enable camelot system. is this why?? also - fantastic job as usual. signing up for your course.

Knowing which deck is the Master deck is really handy when you want to do very smooth but also very big tempo changes. You can sync BPMs of two decks, set the pitch range for the new track so you can comfortably bring it to 0% or where you wanna be, then set it as Master, enable Sync on the previous song, play the new song and pitch up/down as you need. The track you're transitioning from will lock its grid and BPM to the new track, that way you can make breakdowns or buildups as if you're doing it in Ableton.

Another thing is, don't try to make your library perfect, you can make an infinite amount of folders and playlists. For genres that I don't know, I just put them in a vibe folder, or I have broad genre folders like "Okay it's not Ghouse but its gritty it goes in gritty like some other gritty bass house I might have etc.." Also it's all a matter of finding it yourself, I know I have some tracks that are defo not in a "future" folder, but I know if I look for that track il defo somehow relate it to "future". Just take it easy and experiment.

For my "decade" bpm playlists, I intentionally overlap the bpm ranges a bit. This gives me a few more options around the break points between each list. I have done this two different ways over the years. 1) +/-2bpm -- "108-122," "118-132." (Old method. These playlists covered 14bpm and did not narrow my choices enough. But, this was super handy when I had a more tightly curated collection.) 2) 5 & 10 based. "105-115," "110-120," "115-125," "120-130" (New method. This requires me to be deliberate and have a plan about the direction of tempo changes, but narrows the choices enough to be effective.) The overlap allows me to have more options "near" any given bpm when I am trying to find the next song.
@lesstraveledpath
2 жыл бұрын
I experimented with non-overlapping lists, so 110-119, 120-129, etc. The problem was that when I was looking for a song "around" the split between lists, like 120, I was having to split my attention between two different lists. That was a (minor) annoyance, for me at least. By having some overlap, like 105-115, 110-120, 115-125, etc...I was able to look in the "middle" of a list more consistently. Yes, that means that I have twice as many playlists as I would need. These playlists are all automatically maintained by Smart Playlists, so aside from having more lists, there was no additional maintenance overhead for me.
@lesstraveledpath

@@ilovemusic849 I have my music collection sliced up into many different playlist types, by BPM is just one of the ways. The BPM list tends to be based on "everything" that I have prepped to play - it's about 5k songs (ish). I am NOT as diligent as I should be in removing older songs that I no longer play, so my active collection is larger than it should be. I also have playlists by Genre, and by Dance type (e.g. the different Ballroom dances, etc). These playlists tend to be long term. I make short term playlists when I prepare for an event and I want to have some specific music ready to go.

A video on how to use these tips (in the best way possible) on a CDJ display would be helpful for people who don't use a laptop (to for instance see all of those playlists and palette playlists in one screen). And have it be specific to the CDJ-900-NXS as well as a 2000NXS/NX2 or even CDJ-30000. I REALLY wish that Pioneer setup the 'My Tag' lists you create to be selectable right on the CDJ itself when you press the Tag List button for example.. Then select one of the tags you created and have it show a list of tracks with that specific selected tag --- again - right on the CDJ's display to pick. Instead Pioneer seems to waste that real estate on screen of the CDJ by only allowing 100 Tags and it being only temporary. The My Tag lists need to be available the CDJ from the select knob. (without having to search).

Your videos are always well explained. I’m new to Rekordbox and have been disappointed with oversights and lack of features (interest by Pioneer) compared to Serato DJ Pro. I suggest a video on why Serato is better(not perfect) than Rekordbox when it comes to library management. 1. Intelligent Playlists. Not very intelligent due to lack of anything other than “All of these” and “contains”. Where are all the common sense options? 2. You do a little cleansing of folders such as replace or delete a track. Intelligent Playlist does not update and can’t be told to refresh. You have to do it manually. 3. With a long list of folders and playlists, hitting a Alphabet key on you keyboard does nothing to jump to folders starting with that letter. It does in export mode but not performance Pushing me back to Serato !!

@EricBishard
Жыл бұрын
Good tip, Beatport does not always have a track tagged with the correct genres. The reason is that artists and labels will game the system by tagging something house that is more likely a specific sub genre, this is to take advantage of what genres are getting more eyeballs or other reasons tagging it as something it's not might help it sell. So, understand your genres. For instance, my tech house genre it beatport has a few tracks beatport labeled as deep house, dance-electro, funky house, house, or minimal-deep-tech. But I know for sure they meet my criteria or Tech house or straddle the line of for instance Bass House. It still more than not gets played in my tech house set and not my bass house sets. As well I have played longer sets that start with minimal and deep house and transition to tech house and then bass house nad back to tech house. This is usually over a three hour period or more. but the work you do ahead of time to organize, tag and set memory cue points will not only help you know when and when not to play certain tracks on the fly but also when to perform a bass swap.
