I just bought a Tactical Tailor low profile shoulder strap set. It has extra back padding and thick wide shoulder straps. It takes ALICE to a whole new level super comfy

I have a MOLLE rucksack issued and that belt sucks personally. Tactical Taylor has a better belt that for an AlIce bag. Stitching or attaching a sternum strap helps a lot. Packing it correctly and high on your back helps even more. I still use my Alice pack for ruck marches and that’s all I’ve done to make it more comfortable

Flex seal the lid of the top and the pouches. Your poncho will do the rest in a heavy rain. 🍻

If you wanted to take a sheep with you every where you go, I'm betting it would have preferred to walk than be carried.

Great advice. I love my Alice Pack. Its the "worst best" rucksack I have. Its not ideal for anything, but it does a good job of everything (if that makes sense). Whilst I wouldnt want to do a long distance mountain hike with it, I know that it will literally take any load because of its cavernous main pocket, and frame. Plus you can remove the frame and straps and literally carry boxes with it like a porter on Mount Everest. Its the ultimate versatile ruck. I will definitely consider your strap mods. I think thats an excellent idea.

Nice addition with the snaps! Helped me with some of my own solutions. The LC2 straps are like the first to go, replace with either the enhanced issue or aftermarket Blackhawk, Eagle, Spec ops, Tactical Taylor etc with sternum straps Also, for the large Alice pack, 2 long cinch straps run all around are useful too. Look for easter eggs, as there are some with the ALICE system :)

You do not have to open the straps in order to fit the nylon fastex type fasteners. ITW and Condor (and probably several others) supply buckle repair kits that have a gap in the part of the buckle that the loop passes over so you can simply slip them into the webbing loop, OK sometimes you need a pair of pliers to assist but its totally doable. In fact I have created my own with side cutters out of the normal fastex buckles.

I'm unsure of what the market is in France. The price of these bags in the US is almost to the point of buying newer gear is cheaper and practical.

Patrick. If you have a large an easy mod is this. British PLCE 10 lt Rocket pouches. Big pouch zips on. There is enough real estate on the side to put zips on to hold them. Look up Karimore SF online. Look at how they put a strap over through rocket pouches. Youll also see some pouch options they have that are way ti expensive, but easy idea to borrow and sew yourself. Look at the pouch that also has bladder storage to.

I made handles using paracord and the same sort of loop style people use for bracelets. Since I used 1100 paracord I had laying around, it gave me about 12' of cord if I need it. I often paracord when I gather firewood since I tend to have to drag it up overhangs. Just a suggestion.
