What a gem of a video and so much important biological information too!!! My pitchers are expert lizard digesters. Thank god I don’t have mice in my balcony, my pitchers aren’t big enough to handle them!!!

I think redleaf is a superb place to buy nepenthes but They seems to be fairly small sadly so they are quick to get sold out. I'm sure their is other sellers in the US but I must recommend you Bradgreenhouse in B.C Canada, (you can find of his video on youtube) I know he ship to the US and the quality of his plants is simply outstanding.

What the actual f. 3:51 I was not ready for this. That thing disintegrated that mice, most of its hair and bones with it, like nothing. I had no idea Nepenthes could digest this efficiently; I had learned about some species in the wild that had apparently been reported to contain a small rodent in one of the pitcher, but I was far from realizing so many hybrids were capable and had pitchers adapted for it. Are those wild mice "randomly" trapped by the Nepenthes, when they wonder too close to the fatal pitchers?
@vacciniumaugustifolium1420

For sure, nepenthes don't target mammals, most of them like Lowii and Rajah, actually want to attract small rodents but only to get their poop when they lick the nectar on the lid. I read a few years ago an article by McPherson where he was talking about that, it was quite interesting

Hi Dom! A physiological question! You’ve said that a lid that becomes brown could tell us that the prey caught has been too much for the pitcher. This is a indicator of a necessary reduction for given preys quantity/size in the future ? Or it’s just nepenthes nature, and we must add food like this, even if the pitcher withers? Thanks!
@redleafexotics4722

Hello! The pitcher start to rot and die only on plants that maybe have captured one but aren’t large enough. Like a Venus flytrap, if too much food is inside the trap can rot. I do not add the mice to the pitchers. They catch them on their own. I don’t advise overloading pitchers with food. Thanks and welcome!

what about Nepenthes robcantleyi? Is it a good mouser? I am assuming it would be with how big the pictures are suppose to get. I have grown orchids for years and just gotten into nepenthes (I have 4 so far all small plants - N. robcantleyi, N. vetchii, N. bicalcarata and my one hybrid - N. robcantleyi X truncata)

I wonder if there would be any benefit in giving pinky mice to smaller pitchers Would be interesting to see if a plant eating mice grew bigger than a plant eating an equivalent amount of insect matter
@redleafexotics4722

There could be, but not if it rots or kills the pitcher fully. I’d say a pinky should do well for a 6+ inch pitcher.
