Ya'll need to listen to a lot more songs all over the world from different years, then you'll find out that almost all the songs out there have similarities with other songs. It's especially important to remember that there are mainly just 12 notes used in Western Music and only a total of 48 major and minor scales. There are probably millions of songs created by now. So just imagine what they all just have to work with. Other songs from all the popstars we have right now most likely have similarities w/ lesser known songs too and the same w/ lesser known songs have similarities w/ other songs, but they don't receive the same treatment as Olivia. It just became trendy to bully her and discredit her like this. Like come on, that verse in Good 4 u and Mariah's Carey's song, do they have the same notes, chord progressions, instrumentations, beat, etc? What are the technical aspects in their similarities? Other than "I just feel like they sound the same". I agree w/ some of the other songs shown in the vid, she should give credit to the other artists because there's a line you draw w/ the similarities in songs. But some songs shown in the vid are really just pushing it for the sake of saying Olivia copied them.

@@Regina_Filanji I respect your opinion. I'd just like to change my stand on this issue. She should not have given credit to Paramore. I just watched Tristan Paredes and Blake Mclain's videos on this matter. It made so much more sense to me. You don't have to agree with me, it's just something I'd like to put out there. I'd say Good 4 u and Misery Business fall in the same genre that's why people might get the same vibes and therefore assume they are the "same". People are saying they have the same chord progression in the chorus, then if that's the case we could also dig deep and surely we will find a ton of other songs that came out before Misery Business that also have the same chord progression. So does that mean Paramore should be sued then? I believe there should be at least more than one element in the songs to be the same to constitute a songwriting credit or if there's only one element in the song that are the same but it should at least have a large portion of the song being similar. Or with 1 similarity but more prominent element (example is the guitar riffs in Brutal). I just think that what people did to Olivia is setting a dangerous precedent in the art of making music.

What y'all need to understand is that there is always going to be similarities in music. It is really hard to come up with a FULLY original melody because it's all limited to 12 notes and musicians always have some INPUT so that they can take elements to construct their own music, but most of the time these are just SIMILARITIES. Plagiarism exist, I am not saying it doesn't. But there is a guideline to determine if a case is plagiarism or not.

I understand that with millions of songs now that it's basically impsosible not to have a few similarities with other songs... HOWEVER. Rodrigo has ONE album and people have pointed out very clear similarities in every song. A little sus if you ask me. And the closeness between the songs aren't like Thinking Out Loud and that one Marvin Gaye song, they are very easy to hear

Its crazy how people want to take her down and not have her on top of her star perch just because of 2 Samples and she gave 50% credit to both paramore for Good 4 u, and taylor swift for deja vu. How much more does she need to suffer? Leave Olivia alone. She is only getting attacked because the industry doesn’t want there to be another number 1 artist who dominates the charts. Its just that people are ”jealousy, jealousy”. She’s an amazing singer and songwriter. Let her do her thing. She’s so popular because so many people resonate with her songs.

@@spilledbeans7000 Even if it wasn't exactly a lawsuit, Olivia Rodrigo still ended up compensating Paramore with over a million dollars for songwriting credits. My point here is that Hayley Williams didn't help write the song, she just got songwriting credits after accusing Olivia Rodrigo of copyright infringement.

I don’t get it why listen to secondhand if you could just listen to the OG music. Olivia isn’t even gonna last if she’s just making her entire discography a wish version of Taylor’s. This is so embarrassing, and would not have been let of the hook had it been the the 80s/90/00s.

To her credit reusing essential elements of already popular songs lends a level of familiarity to your work that draws a larger audience since they’ve basically already heard and celebrated those sounds but in a different form. Some see it as lazy and unoriginal but it’s actually very cost effective for a record label nowadays
