I’m finishing Tech School at Keesler right now for Cyber Transport and I’m Air National Guard for the guard base in Atlantic City. I’m excited to move into operational. I’m proud of being Guard.

Congratulations. You will like the 177th ANG. I grew up as a child of a member of this unit. Dad joined in 1948, went from E1 to E9. He was civil service, full time. Kinda like AGR today. In 1961 he received his commission in maintenance squadron O1- 0-6. We were activated from the Pueblo incident/North Korea. Long career 40 years. Started out initially at Newark airport, planes were moved to AC area in about 1957. He went to McGuire until the Navy left the base for AF. He eventually went back to the 108th. Commandeer of maintenance at 177th and 108th. He swore me in enlisted and eventually as an officer. E7/ Lt, had to retired because of health but I did about 25 years. Hopefully you will like the Guard as I did. I'm out now about 25 years. Congrats on tech school graduation

I remember the day I went to my local AFR recruiter and she told me that i will get paid and become an official member of the USAF upon swearing in and signing the contract after passing MEPS. Too bad i’m not rigorously exercising like I should before going to BMT in the early spring next year. Unlike AD, we reservists get early access to military bennies, CAC card, reserve base access, drill pay, and loads of pre BMT learning material! We got the BEST DEP program ever! however, we don’t call it DEP, we call it D&TF, development and training flight.

All of these benefits are the same with the Air Force Reserve. If anyone watching this is not wanting to join Active Duty, please do your own research in ANG and Reserve. They both have their own perks and downsides depending on what you want to get out of the Air Force.

Love watching your videos! You give out a lot of awesome information. I've been curious as to what SERE Specialists do and the requirements for getting selected for the job. Could y'all make a video on it?

I just enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, I’m curious to what the difference between the reserves the guard is. They seem to have a lot of the same perks and benefits like serving part time.

Guard has access to state missions like Fire Guard, Civil Unrest, Natural Disaster Response. Plus federal missions when they come along (limited, but they are available). Reserves is principally federal missions and more opportunities to deploy. Both Guard and Reserve seem flexible if you decide to move to a different state/region depending on job availability. Cross training to a different AFSC down the road in both the Guard and Reserves is much more do-able than in Active Duty.

@@kennixox262 I looked at guard and reserve and they looked pretty much the same with really the only difference being guard is state and reserve is federal. I was simply curious if there are any other differences. That being said, I’m happy with my decision to go reserve as opposed to guard

I’m seriously considering the air national guard instead of active duty now that I have a newborn baby at home. Could I change from the national guard to active duty at some point?

Going from guard/reserve to active duty is no easy process. It’s not likely but it is possible. Mainly because it requires you to get an approved conditional release and then complete the enlistment process over again for active duty. There are full time opportunities in the Air National Guard plus opportunities to do more TDY’s if you desire.

Hi TSgt Acosta! I just graduated BMT and tech training. I read somewhere that the Guard (NG in general) are now eligible for VA loans as long as they have 90 days of active duty order. Since BMT and Tech school are under title 10 (my order says this) and it’s more than 90 days, does this mean I’m eligible for VA home loan or do I not because it’s an initial active duty training?

That money ain’t worth it if you get stationed somewhere expensive with inflation atm. There’s a ton of AD that legit struggle with living where they’re stationed at with current inflation. Much better to have more control
