Not that you're not a beauty in and of itself, but geez Tilly, you could also be a a stellar "hand model". (Use those when you do commercial shoots). Great first start on your channel. Very well delivered and nicely, clearly explained. The finger tapping on the Leica glass made me a little nervous but those lens coatings are harder than you'd think. (Maybe there was a filter on it, I didn't notice). Regardless, you'll do well. Put your head down and GO FOR IT! Hebrews 11:6. God bless you two AND your new endeavor.

Hi Tilly, Greetings from Charleston. I’m here at the prompting of Rhett, but after seeing your video, I wanted to show support at the start of your KZitem journey. Along with music, I’m a 40 year photography enthusiast, producing/selling fine art photography. (I say “fine art” as a declaration of intent, not a claim.) Time will tell. When I was starting out, I would have appreciated your video. Today’s beginners will appreciate this video now. BTW - Rhett knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s following his passion. I’ve been rooting for him secretly for years. Look at what he’s built… surely with your support. Follow your passion with this channel and you’ll be successful as well. The very best to you. Cheers!

Nice video, looking forward to more. I'd really like to see videos that help break away from that "every picture must be amazing" mindset. Several years ago I was taking lots of pictures as I learned the technical side of photography. However, I lost interest once I could get the shot I wanted but found that they weren't all that interesting. A real artist can make something mundane interesting, but I suppose the first step is to get out and start taking mundane shots.

Another of Rhett's followers who is also a photographer, I'll be subscribing here too. One of things I've learnt over the last few years is not to be constrained by a particular type of photography. I always wanted to be a good portrait photographer, but I mostly suck at it. What I've found is that I'm a better landscape photographer and if I'd just plugged away at portraits, I would have never found that out.

Nice video Tilly Photography as a hobby has been in a bit of a hiatus for me over the past year or more, so much so that it has dropped of the radar as a KZitem video recommendation subject. I have subscribe so hopefully your enthusiasm turns that around. I liked your first tip particularly. Iconic shots can be a good tool for learning the photographic language and the techniques for producing them, but freeing yourself to take photos that show the world as you see it, showing what catches your eye, and finding a way to frame it so as to convey that the most succinctly is where photography becomes a way to express yourself. It is the journey that takes us from taking pictures of things, to taking pictures about things.

Wow - this brings back memories - I took a photography course in college back in the early 80's - 35mm film that we learned to develop with chemicals in the darkroom, and then expose the negatives to photo paper. Times have changed, but photography is still a highly crafted skill that can truly become art in the right hands. Good luck to you and your new adventure. (BTW, Rhett sent me here)

Tilly it is wonderful to see you pursuing your own channel! I am sure you have lots of ideas - but one thing that seems to be highly sought after in terms of video searches on youtube is direct comparisons between high end smartphones and DSLR cameras. I think most of those videos are analyzing the resulting photographs.... but it would also be interesting to analyze the mechanics of each of the fundamentals you are discussing in this video! Also. Congrats on the channel! You are going to do incredible.

I started shooting stills in 2004 with a point and shoot on manual mode and got my first DSLR in 2009. I learned completely from experimenting, never read anything on how to do things (not necessarily the best way). I also worked in film for 9 years (on set with the sound dept), so I have seen countless film camera and lighting setups, which definitely informed my choices as a still photographer. I’ll subscribe here, and I look forward to when you do videos that teach me something (never knew what the A and S mode designations on a digital camera meant cuz I’m always in manual, so you already taught me something in video 1).

Great first video. Are you planning to go into darkroom? I was a part time pro photographer in the late '70's and early 80's , and B&W darkroom was very rewarding. I did table top studio, weddings, and sporting events mostly. Great fun, but really tough to make a living for a family in Los Angeles. I still have thousands of dollars worth of old Nikon gear in my closet. I hope film comes back in a big way.

Hi Tilly! Welcome to KZitem! Great first video. Glad to see that film isn't dead. I got my first real camera about 50 years ago. I took a lot of memories, and a few pictures that I'm really proud of. For people who take pictures as a hobby, I recommend they try to take the best picture they can, but don't miss the shot because you were fussing over it. I missed a shot the other day of one of the stray cats we take care of. She was sitting on a table out back with the sun behind her. I messed around too much trying to get a better shot and she moved. Looking forward to new videos!

Tilly, my Dad was a Pro Photographer his entire life and he gave me a camera, three pieces of advice, and turned me loose. He said look for unusual subject matter, unusual lighting, and unusual picture angles. He also taught me to develop my own black and white film, and process my own photos. Now days I just do digital pictures with my iPhone, but I always remember his advice. Thanks or taking the time to make this very nice video!
