Hey Sean. Love the reviews. But the tracking even without CT10 sensors is done on the fly for most of the shots. You can go back to the app after the round to make some corrections or add some small chip shots. Chip shots and putts are the only reason why I purchased the CT10. The rest was already great enough with the watch

Every Garmin golf watch I have ever owned has been inconsistent with yardage accuracy. Some holes spot on, some as off as much as 15-20 yards, regardless of course. Steer clear of these. Get a Skycaddie or just use a rangefinder

I'm tempted to purchase this. I currently wear a Garmin Fenix 5x daily. It does a lot of what this watch does. The pretty screen of the S70 is the aluring factor; but $700 is a lot to pay for a second Garmin watch, and then there is the question of what I would do with the Fenix 5x?

I took your test for best fit and still ended up with the S70 even though I stated I only want it for Fitness and health, golf primarily. I don't need all the other BS around that, that's what the Apple Watch is for, just need a good golf watch. Seems there isn't a S70 type watch that only works as a golf/fitness watch? 700USD is steep for just using it for golf and walking the dog. BTW I cancelled my Arccos after using it for 1.5 years, it just misses too many shots, even tee shots are missed, having to edit every single shot makes it pretty useless

Hey Sean, They released the 42mm version of the s70 in White and Grey only which is a slight bummer since the black looks so slick. will you be doing a review of that one? According to the specs it has less pixels and uses a different gps than the s70 so it isn't exactly the same watch.

Hey Sean, I'm a longtime Arccos and Apple fan, but am not that pleased with the Arccos Golf app for the Apple watch, because it does not display an overview of the holes on the course and the hazards as the iPhone does. I love the idea of a GPS watch, and I have the Garmin S60, but it has charging problems that I've had for a while. Garmin has given me two choices, a new S60, at no cost or a 30% discount of the S70. Or, I can buy the new Apple watch and hope that Arccos eventually adds the overview and hazards to their Apple watch app. Since you are further in the know with these companies than I am, which do you think is the better deal currently? I know things can and will change overtie, but if you had to make this decsion in 45 days, which would you choose and why? Thanks in advance for the response.

My quick thoughts: I dont know anything for certain, but I wouldn't expect to see hole overviews for Arccos on Apple Watch. Definitely a bit of a bummer, but I'm not expecting that feature. Kind of surprised they're offering you an S60 at all, as it's been discontinued for a long time. If they offer a replacement of the S62 for free - you can't really argue with that! The S70 is definitely the better watch, in large part because the screen is so much better. So I dont think you'll be disappointed if you spend the money on it. For me personally, I currently use a Garmin Epix Gen 2. I've seen certain colors pretty routinely on sale on Amazon for $550-600. It does nearly all of what the S70 does, plus a whole bunch more fitness/activity features. So between all the options I'd look at that. I've also heard rumors there may be a new similar watch released by the end of the year, and there's the more expensive and newer Epix Pro which is also great - but that's getting to be a different price/conversation. All that to say, I'd take the free one and see if you like it. And if not, consider an Epix for not THAT much more money than the discounted S70

Just starting back playing but 18 months ago upgraded my old Garmin Fenix 3 to a newer Garmin Fenix 6x pro it does not have as bright and vibrant screen as the s70mand ir does not support more than 3 Garmin ct10 models connected at a time but it still does way way more than I need . It would be good to see a really good comparison between say the Fenix 6 the Fenix 8 and the s70.

Hey Sean, Is there any watch that is bit less golf centric but capable as the S70? (Course map/Virtual Caddie/shot tracking are the big ones for me) I currently use a Garmin 245, so I am familiar with their app, but don't use any of their other gear. The thought of consolidating my golf tech (bushnell phantom 2 / golf tags) with my daily routine is attractive, but the price is a bit of killer considering I only get around 20-30 rounds / season (Live in Canada where the season is only 4-5 months long). I'm guessing it would be the S62, but thought I'd check if I'm missing anything else.
@breakingeighty
Жыл бұрын
The S62 is definitely one to consider. But that's still very golf centric. If you're looking for a better all-around watch, that still has most of the golf features you might look at the Fenix 7 or Epix 2. They're both just as expensive (and in some cases, more), but the added expense may be worth it if you get more day to day benefit from them. An Apple Watch with Golfshot GPS or Arccos could also be an option if you're in the Apple eco-system.

I've got a Fenix 7 Solar. It has the golf tracking features PLUS all of the other wellness features and it tracks LOTS of other activities. I feel like it's the closest thing to a "do-it-all" watch. The Epix has a prettier screen than the Fenix, but I prefer the Fenix for the better battery life.

@@VernL4 Thanks for the feedback. Do you ever struggle to see the details in bright light on the Fenix7? As long as it is on par or better than my current forerunner, I probably would tradeoff on the OLED screen for the other benefits.

@@fujoman999 Nope, I do not have problems with glare. I compared a Solar and a Sapphire version side-by-side before buying my watch. The sapphire has a noticeable glare, but the non-sapphire version does not. I work outdoors and do not have any problems being able to read the screen. I do prefer to use watch faces that have white backgrounds because this seems to improve legibility. As far as durability with the non-sapphire, I've not had any issues. I've hit metal door frames, handrails, and various tools while working on my Jeep, and the screen does not have any scratches after 7 months of constant wear. Garmin says the screen on the Fenix 7 Pro is even better than mine, though.

Sean, what can this watch do as far as communication and notifications with iPhone? I currently use an Apple Watch but really only use it to work out and get notifications. Can this watch do the same?
@legend9018

As long as the watch is connected to your phone you can receive and read text and WhatsApp notifications, push notifications from apps and you can customize what gets through and when it gets through. However you cannot reply to those messages like you can with the Apple Watch. You will also get notified of incoming calls and it will allow you to answer or hang up but you cannot speak through the watch like the Apple Watch but still decent capability. Hope this helps.

I was tempted until I found out that Garmin doesn't have an upgrade/trade-in program. That's their achilles heel so unless I am into buying a dedicated must-have sport specific watch, it doesn't make any sense for me. Will gladly stick with my laser rangefinder.

No iPhone user should buy any of these Garmin watches in lieu of an Apple Watch. You could always dual-wield on the golf course, if you really want. They make sense as a primary watch for Android users.

I disagree. The Apple Watch is hands down a better smart watch and better day to day watch for most people. BUT if you care more about health/fitness, activity tracking, sleep tracking etc. The Garmin is way better than the Apple. The Apple Watch will give you much of the same data, but the Garmin will not only give it to you, but translate the data for you in a way that makes sense and allows you to make adjustments to your routines and workouts. I've worn an Apple Watch for 3 years straight. Since I got the S70, I've worn it 2 or 3 times. I'm at a point right now where I'm prioritizing health, so the Garmin has been a much better watch for that.

I have a s42 not a s70. There are two main reasons the Garmin is so much better than the Apple Watch. 1) the app is free and totally connected to your iPhone. The equivalent apps are not free on the Apple Watch. 2) the battery. I can play three 18 holes with my Garmin. You better triple check your Apple Watch battery if you wan to be sure to be able to finish 18 holes.
