AMEN TO THAT SISTA!! Just like any good or expensive tool, you have to take care and maintain it properly! If you take care of it, it will take care of you and feed your family for many years to come! We have sets that have been past down through generations! When I met my wife and learn she could cook it was such an AWESOME ATTRIBUTE to add to the AMAZING PERSON she already was. Then when I went to the house(Abuelita) she was raised in Mexico. I found out where her love of cooking came from. Her grandmother had a SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL 100+ Copper Cookware. I mean everything from the utensils to huge pots, sauce pans, baking pans etc. I mean everything lol!(also they were 100yrs+) I enjoy cooking as well, but I love eating a lot more lol!

Bought my first cast iron pans from the Sears catalog - 3 sizes for $10. That was 45 years ago. They have NEVER rusted. I have always washed my pans in warm water with detergent. I towel dry immediately. Clean the rest of the kitchen and then quickly rub 3 or 4 drops of oil into the inside of the pan with a paper towel. Very minimal time involved.

@neanderslob

@@frimpomaakate5545 you could hit it with some soap and water initially to make sure it's clean. When you go to cook in it the first couple times, perhaps use a little more oil than you usually would. Then, when it comes to cleaning, I wipe it out using salt instead of soap. This allows some of the oil from cooking to remain on the pan, but removes all the debris. Then dry it off using a burner. If you want to get into the art of how to make your pan perfect, there are lots of resources out there but scrubbing it out with salt is really all that needs to be done. Cast iron maintenance isn't hard, all you do is hand wash it like a normal pan with soap, or no soap if you don't want to use soap, then dry it off, rub on a tiny bit of oil on it then go on with your life, no need to season, that tiny bit of oil you rubbed on last time will become seasoning when you heat it to cook in it

Reason 6: Carbon Steel does most of the things cast iron can do in a lighter package and it heats up faster at the loss of some heat retention and baking abilities. You still season and maintain it the same way. I think price and availability are factors to take into account when choosing carbon steel though because something like a DeBuyer fry pan costs more than a Lodge cast iron skillet of comparable size. These carbon steel pans tend to be much cheaper than the boutique cast iron brands with the smooth cooking surface though.

Does a cast iron pan break if it accidentally slips from your hand and falls to the floor?! Is it brittle like pig iron utensils, which do crack if they fall to the ground?!
@IWantToCook
2 жыл бұрын
I think it will either chip the pan or break the floor, depending on the material it falls on, lol. In all seriousness, cast iron is a bit of a dichotomy: it is super heavy and tough, but it can still chip if it strikes a surface that is harder. That said, the surface would have to be extremely hard. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I think enameled cast iron will far outlive Teflon. While you might be able to cook some foods without oil or fat, most pans outside of nonstick will need some sort of fat if you’re doing a dry cooking method. As for cleaning, you can use soap if you must, but be sure to re-season. I personally use a chain mail scrubber and did a video demo on how well they work: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1nlo0WGVm4mYjWk
