What makes my blood boil is we have a legal responsibility to keep our cars roadworthy, but what stipulation is there on the government and councils to legally maintain our roads to be fit to bloody drive on !!
@ForensicDetailing

they have a duty of care and there are also guidelines around how quickly they must fix potholes based on severity. If you hit a pothole you must prove failure of that duty of care. If you do that you can claim sucessfully ;) they use certain tricks to make your claim fail and they are very very slow to reply hoping you will just give up. but if you stick with it you can get them to pay up. you need to understand the process and make a FOI request first and look at the road inspection reports first so they cannot lie to you.

Now every time I clean it I find another small ding or scratch on it somewhere and then torture myself wondering how and when it happened, even though it makes no difference. Why can’t we have nice cars and have large parking spaces and well maintained roads. Every parking spot should be like a parent and child space. Pot holes. I got pulled over by the plod the other day. They asked me why I was driving erratically side to side down the road. I turned around & pointed down the road & said nothing. The two coppers looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders & said fair enough & left. I never buy new cars. 2-3 year old cars are half the price or less. My current Superb 280 L&K Estate is 8 years old this year & I bought it in 2018 with 20k on the clock for well under half it's value when new. Fabulous carry-all, do-it-all sleeper car that now has 60k on the clock & still worth a few bob due to it's rarity. Parking - I always park next to the most expensive car in the car park or the furthest away from the exit where the most spaces are. In 8 years in the current car I've had a few front end stone chips but no door dings - yet. Costco has the widest parking spaces I've ever seen (designed for trade vans & the like) so assuming you can get a membership, parking there is a doddle. That said I still park well away from the entrance. Seriously thinking about get a pro detail done on my car this year.

Just had my MOT a few days ago. Car failed on rear springs and front brake pads. One was completely snapped and the other was well on its way. This comes about 4 years after the front coil spring on my beater Mondeo snapped completely and I was told by the local garage that they're seeing it more and more, and is more than likely due to potholes. Two new springs last week cost me £380 with front brake pads that were low. What happens to the "car tax" we pay, because it certainly isn't spent on the upkeep of the roads. They simply don't care, because the powers that be want us off the roads anyway. If it's not bloody potholes it's 20mph speed limits ! I wouldn't mind if we had a public transport system that wasn't so pathetic in this country. Whingeing rant over 😂

Very true, I came out of a lovely old banger which picked up a new ding from a doughnut in car parks every time into a luxury car once in a lifetime purchase for me even though not new but used and 9yr old but still immaculate condition and I make an effort to keep it shiny (thanks to your channel) I park it out of the way in car parks even if I have to walk further (because most drivers are lazy idiots who want to park as close as possible to a shop entrance) where space is a plenty and nobody within 5 parking spaces only to come back and find one tw@t who decided to park right up to my vehicle in a half empty car park a few inches away from my paintwork 🤬. I subsequently discovered that trait is a psychological thing when those drivers use your perfectly parked vehicle as a reference to park their own tat properly because in an open space with no reference they can't park properly.

have to agree that car spaces in the UK are far too small, even for a mk5 golf. Cars have increased 1cm per year since the mid 90s, but car parking spaces have stayed the same since the 60s. i have a golf GTI, and I just park across 2 spaces so I don't get dinged. JRivets on jeans from people squeezing inbetween 2 cars puts a nice scratch on the car. Here in the Peak District they are chucking it down from October through to April some years. I will go further with carpark damage, in that I believe people deliberately damage nice cars. Plus, you get verbally abused for driving a performance car, too, these days. I still have a weekend toy.... but my daily is a 2012 Citroen C1 for all the reasons you have stated. Cost £2000 to buy, back in 2021 and all it has cost is 15 quid for a new indicator stalk. Yes, the clearcoat is falling off, yes it has dents but it's built like a tank, drives very nicely, is decently quick and I have a joyous and worry free experience vs the Golf. When somebody drove into it at a roundabout (I started to move then changed my mind), I told her not to worry. She was concerned just how much clearcoat fell off when the bumper flexed .... bless! My wife pointed out that I would not have been that relaxed if it had been the Golf! It's comfortable, nudges 50mpg over all and I can park it anywhere without a backwards glance. Agreed on all points raised. Most average people will have spent more on one new average car, than I have on four used cars since 1993. I've also had people bump into my car while I was sat parked, or had minor collisions from other careless car park drivers going in and out. Also the neighbours cats sinking their claws into my car paintwork, as they clamber up onto the bonnet and then on the roof to sit in the sun. Also again neighbours children being allowed to kick dirty gritty footballs too high in the air, and they always end up coming down on my car. So yes, buying brand new when there are so many car wrecking idiots around, is not a sensible option.

I live in a cul-de-sac, and I am glad I have a driveway, because every house has at least two cars, some have 2 cars and two vans. There is literally nowhere for all of the vehicles. I also have a work van, which I park on my driveway, along with my only car. I do not have room for more vehicles, and if I did have another, I would have to park it 2 or 3 streets away, on the roadside. So, because I am a petrolhead, my only car is relatively nice. I have no choice, when I go to the supermarket, I park in the furthest away spots and prey nobody damages my car. I would love to be able to afford the extra tax/insurance/fuel for a shitter just to park anywhere, but I can't afford one on top of my other car, not do I have room to park one on my drive. Servicing cars yourself, is a pain if you only have a driveway, and have to crawl underneath to unscrew the sump plug, and then where do you dispose of the old oil ? So, I have one car and it's quite nice. I don't want to drive a shitter thanks.

Totally with you Jon. In lockdown I bought a 2004 1.2 SX Nissan Micra sh!tbox locally for £150. It had a stretched chocolate timing chain and ran like a bag of spanners in a cement mixer. But it was all there, FSH 2 owners from 1 family and 90k miles. The engine parts were only £50 but given the age I replaced the brakes all round, clutch, wishbones, ball joints and all fluids. All up I spent under £500 on parts, had to weld a small area of corrosion. Doing the timing chain was a horrible job but it runs perfectly and is now worth £1500! I have 2 daughters to teach how to drive and it's perfect for that mission plus a very handy spare car I'm not precious about.

PS love the wife giving u grief…..I have one of those 😂 And yes my bonnet is covered in stone chips even though I maintain good spacing! At least because my Bullitt was immaculate I didn’t lose any money when I sold it

I bought a G20 330E for about 65000€ new 2021 and it has been very stressful to avoid all road works, find good parking spots etc. Value is now maybe 40000€ or less even if it has 25k km. Luckily I live in a very small city with not so much traffic. It is easy to avoid stone chips and go round roadworks if they make new asfalt. But yes life would be much easier with a 2000€ value E46 BMW. Currently I only use the big parking garage under the city center which is about 50% full maximum, there are always bic sections empty. I choose to walk 1km for my business things in the city rather than risk all kinds of parking damage in busy city street parking.

John I literally have been moaning about this recently I’ve just in the last few months changed my wishbones ball joint coil spring and twice the drop links. At 1st I presumed it was just my local council but had to nip in to the city couple of weeks back and right in the centre huge potholes I’ve never known it to be so bad. My only issue is even when I have a slightly older car I still try to keep it looking nice and keep it to a nice standard.

Got myself a £1500 ds3 as a 2nd car run about last year. Annoying paying x2 insurance bills but worth every penny. Nice not to worry as much about all these points listed in the video. Although saying that I have now started polishing up the citroen 🙈🤣 cant help myself! still get annoyed when people bash it as I care about all cars and people should care about other people's things!

I just wouldn’t pay loads of money on a deprecating asset. That you spend loads on just to keep on the road (that are generally crap) that could get damaged each and every time you drive it. Like a comment has mentioned below. You could park you car in the middle of a car park with loads of spaces, you come back an hour later to find someone literally next to you even though there are plenty of other spaces available.

In 2008 i bought my brand new Ford Focus 2 door coupe and within three months someone had bashed a carriage into my passenger side door, plus it was keyed along the trunk lid! I wanted to cry! I love my car, and still have it to this day, it still holds the scars. So it doesn't matter what kind of car you have, if you love your car and take care of it, there will always be an evil person who will mess it up, because they have no respect!

Up here in Salford they get the primary school children with their buckets and spades to fill in the potholes, but we do have half wits as councillors, they wouldn't want to jeopardise theirs expense claims paying out for a proper job.👍

Yep, i have an 25yo car, what was cheap as new, and now it's for price od full tank of fuel. Love to drive it ss i dobry need to care, its start allways and when visit a car service i get 50 % off, as they can't charge more that car value. In top of that all parts are for bread price, rear brakes and bearings set for 80p.

Noticed driving standards have declined alot since covid, its almost as though people have forgotten. I couldn't agree more with the comments about parking, i usually park furthest away from the shops only to come back to a 20 plus years rot box right next to me with loads of spaces either side,so bloody infuriating and dont start on pot holes, on the commute to work i encounter many of them, if i had a traffic car behind me i would probably get pulled over thinking i was either drunk or on drugs as im carefully weaving to avoid them

My good man, If you say, that you have a bad situation with roads in UK I do highly suggest to visit us in the Baltics. Lithuania - bad. Latvia - even bloody worse. Estonia - a bit better, still far from excellent or even good. It will change your perspective :D however, I do agree with you. And it makes me wonder sometimes - maybe I should sell my car, stop carrying about my daily, and buy like Opel Vectra Caravan or some kind of the van and call it day. Wash it once in blue moon, stop taking care of the paint and run it to the ground...

I bought a golf r estate 2019. Most expensive car I have ever bought. 1. My wife complains I park in the furthest away parking space 2. The pot holes scare the life out of me! I was looking at upgrading the sizes of the 18inch alloys to 19 but I really don’t think it’s a good idea.

Don't give away the secret! We want some people buying the expensive cars so we can eventually pick them up with a few miles and a massive discount! Dings in nice a car hurt a lot less when you get it for half the price.

I avoid (1) supermarket carpark by using my wife’s 65-plated 1118d SE. (4) deep depreciation by buying a 2.5-year-old 840i GC after first owner lost more than 50% of list price. (5) need a big comfy car to sit in traffic.

I drive a van, I know I know a van who cares, but I look after it. I'm sick of people opening doors onto it, little door dings come once a month regardless of where I park.
