Disappointed but Optimistic: I am firearms agnostic; owning 15 guns across 11 manufactures. I purchased a Max-9 for $414 in hand, cleaned and lubed it, ran 64 rounds of 115gr brass (6 Hornady CD FTX, 28 Federal, 30 Norma) and had several slide locks with ammo in the mag! This occurred across two shooters, both of us simply had to release the slide and run the gun until the next errant slide lock. On a positive note, Ruger customer service was top shelf. I sent my Max-9 to Ruger for repairs on 09/15/21, it was returned on 09/23/21 after the slide stop and spring were replaced with post repair testing. It will not enter my carry rotation until I have another ~300 rounds through it with at least 30 defensive rounds in the mix. It will be over a week until I am able to run it again but I am optimistic and would recommend it as a great value purchase. I have a Ruger Security-9 with nearly 1,300 rounds through it. **Update: 56 rounds with no problems and it runs very well! Looking forward to getting more rounds through it and getting it in my carry rotation.

In all fairness, I've had similar issues with brand new guns. Very expensive guns too. I usually don't use Hornady for the range anymore because I had a bad box a while back where the bullet literally fell out of the casing. I thought it was just one bad one but I checked the rest and they all were just easily pulled out with just the slightest pull with two fingers. One even came out without the brass casing even coming out of the plastic rack! Called Hornady and they sent me a label to send them back and they offered another box and I declined. Went with Winchester training ammo and that's when I had some failure-to-feeds and what not. Went back and got Browning training ammo (for 9mm) and federal (.40 cal + .45 cal) and that's worked great ever since. No failures of any sort on any new weapon.

I have the Ruger Max 9 and I love it. At first I found it shooting about four inches low at 15 yards with 115 grain standard ammo. After experimenting, I found that with +P ammo in any weight, it shoots exactly to point of aim at that distance. To me, that shows the importance of finding out what your EDC likes and feeding it what it wants.
@wtfbehindyou1892
2 жыл бұрын
How is the barrel holding up? If you read the ruger max 9 manual. it doesn't recommend +p ammo. It's on page 19 of your ruger max 9 manual. It also says to never use +p+ ammunition.
@Woodstock271
Жыл бұрын
@@wtfbehindyou1892, I hoped your comment noted that and it did. As soon as I saw the +P ammo comment, I remembered that Ruger basically forbids +P in the Max-9 so I never went there with mine. Who needs more recoil and to destroy the barrel? I have the Max-9 pro (without safety) and installed a Holosun 407k red dot. I’m no gun expert but I’ve owned a few pistols in my 60 years on this planet, the Beretta 92F being an old favorite. Just recently getting back into shooting at the range, I scoured KZitem for the latest and greatest in 9mm subcompacts. Something easily carried. Been a longtime fan of Ruger revolvers and bought an LCP2 in .380 just for the hell of it. Super small, 50 rounds in at the range and the extractor blew off. Game over. Sent it to Ruger (I had the older slide), and now with the new slide and hogue grip, this mouse gun is flawlessly reliable. Love Ruger for their impeccable customer service. So I wanted the Ruger Max-9 and bought one. The fiber optic front sight with tritium was a seller, plus I wanted to try my first red dot and it’s ready. You know the feeling, you’re excited to make everything work right. Most things in the manual are pointless but I paid attention to the warning about +P ammo. That’s why I replied. Did the original commenter just disregard this and shoot +P for fun? It’s all in bold red type! Don’t use +P and don’t even think about +P+ in this pistol! Oh well, I hope his barrel hasn’t exploded yet. I put about 200 rounds through the Max9 before I bought the red dot. Zero malfunctions but my aging eyes needed some assistance since my accuracy wasn’t what it was before. Time to try a red dot. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it at all so I bought the 407k instead of the higher priced and retical adjustable 507k. Zeroed in and lots of dry-fire practice, I’m dead on with the red dot. Inch and a half groups at 10 yards is like I’m in my 20’s with iron sights on a full-size pistol. After over a thousand rounds at the range, I love the Max9. Not one complaint. Sure it’s the cheapest of the subcompacts in this league but it’s been my experience that if you own and shoot one pistol exclusively, you’ll eventually master it. Shoot 20 different pistols, you’ll suck at all of them. Muscle memory and consistency is a real thing. Sorry for the long reply, I love to write and get carried away. Peace and aloha to you and yours always and happy shooting. Be safe.🤙🏼

Thank you for the excellent review, Colion. I just got my Max-9 a couple of weeks ago. I just finished putting a Galloway Precision trigger in my Max-9 and it makes a world of difference. *THE RUGAR MAX9 LOOKS LIKE A PRETTY GOOD DEAL. I REMEMBER MY OLD P95 RUGAR I USED TO CONCEAL. IT HAD A HAIR TRIGGER PULL AND RESET. IT COULD SHOOT FASTER THEN THE MAX 9 FOR SURE. I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS FACTORY LIKE THAT OR IF SOMEONE HAD WORK DONE TO IT. I'VE SEEN KZitem VIDEOS ON THE P95, BUT THE ONES THEY SHOOT DON'T SHOOT THE SAME AS THE ONE I HAD. ANYWAYS... I haven't purchased a new firearm since purchasing my Beretta 9mm more than 30+ years ago. However, I recently purchased the Max 9 and OMG, I LOVE it. My first day at the range I was centering my shots in a way that had me wondering how it was possible. The trigger pull was the answer, so smooth, so clean - and the front site is awesome too. I added it to my Ca. CCW, and it's my everyday carry now. I've have well over 800 hundred rounds thru it at the range now and I continue to be so impressed (happy) with everything about it. I did add the finger extension to all of my magazines - at 6'5" tall I have large hands...

My Ruger American9 is much better than Glocks in general. Edges out P320 easily. With only real exception the P10C being another I like but needed shaving on under slide grip other wise solid. Ruger American 9 also is so far the only one to survive torture tests exceeding military testing including freeze and mud some you tubers do. TFBtv sand chamber though might make it fail. My Ruger American Precision rifle turns heads anytime its out in a range. Side exception is H&K but after trying so many guns even the VP9 is in a shadow. Heck even a 1k Bergara hunting rifle is doing quite well in match long range competitions. That says a lot for lesser option potential.

So your first CC gun was an SR9C! My first CC gun was a Springfield "officer size" 1911 .45 ACP in stainless. It was a bit heavy, but certainly shot well. I still use it for re-qualifying for my CC permit every 4 years mainly because our silly state (New Mexico) won't allow one to carry a caliber larger than the one with which he qualified. Plus it's easy and fun to shoot. But it definitely is HEAVY, and a bit large, plus I've never been fully comfortable with "condition 1" carry - which is the only proper way to carry a 1911. Several years ago I bought an SR9C after trying my nephew's SR9C. And I LOVE it. For it's size it shoots incredibly well, quickly and just points naturally. I also got it (new) for under $350. I still carry it to this day, and I see no need to change horses at this point. And really, it's very little larger than the Security 9 Carry. 6¼ inches over all length if I'm remembering correctly. I'm still waiting for my first jam or misfeed with it. Though if I needed another CC gun, the Security 9 would be high on the consideration list.

Both my parents have Rugers so I'm familiar with the brand and already know I like them. I was looking at this one a cheaper one they had but ended up going with this one since it has an adjustable sight, and the option to add a red dot if I want to. (Other one didn't). Holding it felt great. Fit my hand like a glove. They had a promotion going on I don't remember exactly what it was but I ended up paying $300 for my Max 9, which I think is an amazing price. Most places I see online are selling it at $380. Just got it yesterday so haven't had a chance to go to the range yet, but I cannot wait. Might have to go this coming weekend. I personally have several pistols I regularly carry. My primary is an SR9. I have 2. Not the SR9C, the full size. Occasionally switch to my G17 or Beretta M9. And I CCW. And I am not a large man. 5’7”, medium build. Carried correctly, they all conceal well. Prefer full size even though I do own a sub-compact and carry that on rare occasions. And Ruger really stands behind their products. Had an issue with one SR9 twice. Sent in first time and repair did not fix issue. Ruger paid for return shipping to their repair facility and fixed it again. It now runs flawlessly. And the issue arose after several thousand rounds of training (8 or 9). When I train, I run 300 rounds per firearm each time, so I would consider myself rather hard on firearms. Much more so than most, as I train once a month to every 6 weeks. That is a ton of shooting for a non LEO. Not saying anything bad about the others, just pointing out the reliability and great customer service I have experienced from Ruger.
