I have a love hate relationship with this state!! I live in a tiny town in Idaho population just a little over 3000. When I moved in 2020 from Portland, I was priced out of the Nampa/Boise area. I had to be flexible and I landed here. It is an amazing place to raise kids my son is thriving! It is an amazing place if you bring your husband or wife or family with you. For a single woman who is still trying to make a good living....it is brutal!!! This place is so behind the times with pay! It is not cheap to live here!!! I have been here over 3 years and I am hoping next spring to get back to the Nampa area but my son is still in school and the schools aren't great over there!!! Anyway I can't wait to relocate! I would absolutely go back home to Oregon if it weren't for the politics. I just don't have the stomach for all the BS. The goal is to stay in Idaho but go somewhere bigger...I still work in Oregon and drive 7 hours to go to work there because the money here is just not great. I am glad I left Oregon when I did but I am homesick for the ammentaties, pay and my friends and family!!! When your income is half of what your used to, it is easy to get stuck...Think about these things before moving to Idaho....

There's so much I like about Idaho, but the cost/wage ratio really scares me. I was stunned looking at what companies in Idaho are paying. Some roles i looked at were literally half of what they are on the east coast, other's weren't as bad, but there is clearly a huge wage gap vs much of the country. Saving $150-200k on a house doesn't math if your income is cut in half. I'm remote right now but hate this job and won't be doing it much longer, so next role may be in office, so this is a major concern. It also indicates that there may be a deeper crash coming to the ID housing market. Only 12% of jobs are fully remote, and local wages do not support current values. Boom/Bust if the local economy doesn't start expanding rapidly and paying people like it's 2023.

But you keep comparing EVERYTHING to California so of course it appears as you say, ' way less" but not everyone comes from California so when people come from lower priced states like Arizona, the costs can seem higher. Not everyone relocating to Idaho is from California so people please stop comparing Idaho's costs against California's costs as if THAT applies to everyone. The rest of us could give 2 sh..ts about California ( soooo sick of hearing about that state).

I was born in Boise however I have no memory of the place. I have lived all over the nation and 20 years overseas. I had a car accident a few years ago and it left me disabled. Are there any programs out there that you might now about to get someone disabled into their own home?

Idaho doesn't have a normal road infrastructure. Counties and cities don't prioritize roads, so people end up forming homeowners' associations (HOAs) and paying monthly dues of $200 to $300.

That's understatement. LOL. We just don't do roads. I was a little tyke in Kootenai County in the mid-70s riding my bike across the Rathdrum Prairie. County population was 30k-ish. All those farm roads were 2 lane, no turn lanes, 4 foot shoulder. Today, they are just now being improved on in patches here and there usually but a lot of them look EXACTLY the same. Population now is 170k. Gobs more tourists too.

"There is a Wilderness HOA in Boise, and they even secured a USDA loan. They charge people $220 monthly, which adds up to over $2,000 annually. This is quite high. The HOA collects the money and demands that people repay the loan. Some people are also too lazy to demand their rights from the county.

No it’s one extreme or the other… they complain about it nonstop and can’t afford to go back or buy their new overpriced winter coat every year and their fancy new 4 wheel drive vehicle so they can drive back to Cali and go to the beach or to LA or San Fran to fly to Hawaii a couple, 3, 4 times a year while their native Idahoan neighbors can barely pay for housing and gas to get to work and back and their kids don’t get cultural opportunities like travel. And trailer parks are emptied because the owner of the land doesn’t care about other homeowners (people often own their manufactured homes) and sold it for some more high rises or 4-plexes. And they wonder why people resent people from California in particular.

How about zero investment in passenger rail and public transportation. How about and endless supply of these ridiculous lifted pickups that constantly harass other motorists.

I hope those making hand over fist amounts of $ in real estate consider investing in some kind of affordable housing or helping owners become a co-op for the trailer parks because lot rents of $700 for Boise is insane and those on fixed incomes can’t afford that and are charging that much for 1 bedroom to other seniors with no access to the rest of the home in general, just the bedroom. Please quit thinking about only yourselves. You are greatly changing the area by displacing the less wealthy and most vulnerable in society or do you despise them because they weren’t as “smart” as you or in your situation at your time? The Lord has so many commandments about loving your neighbors as yourselves and being mindful in active practical ways for the widows and orphans, especially the ones in your own family, not thinking it’s the government’s or someone else’s job, especially for those who claim to know the Lord God or Jesus. Even Islam has statutes about taking care of the poor and not running over them but that’s what’s happening in a widespread way as long as those in power keep getting whatever they want, which is usually more money and power.
