From what I have read, Boss to rolling out a steel shot load for the die hard steel shot shooters that cling to their steel loads like it’s the last lifeboat on a sinking ship. From what Brandon Cerecke has stated they have improved upon those old tired loads the big boys make and it’s supposed to be LETHAL

Spot on evaluation of steel shot. I have started buying tungsten and some bismuth loads for the greater Canadian geese I have . Now if I’m hunting ducks I doubt if I ever really use anything besides steel. Your advice about hearing protection is so important. I hope some of these young hunters listen. I ignored it my whole life. Between a lot of shogun and rifle hunting and never wearing any hearing protection it eventually caught up to me at around 45-50. I now have a constant ringing in my ears I’ll have listen to the rest of my life. So annoying. I have some hearing protection now my buddy had made for me that owns some hearing aid stores but they sound similar to the Tetras I I no longer hunt without them. Besides protecting your hearing they make you a better hunter. I’ll often hear geese or other wildlife before any else with my hearing protection. Big plus!

I enjoy your channel. Have always disliked steel, most notably since it was ruled. Hesitate to say this, it is affordable but we have to hope PETA stays stupid. If they ever wise up they will realize how abusive steel shot is. It is like hunting with a hammer. We who have been shot with it can confirm that steel is basically physically beating animals to death. It works, most importantly affordable, but people who glue themselves to make a point might glue themselves to ethically hunt animals. Course they are right there with the ones who think 31 million cows fart more than 60 million Buffalo.

There's high volume duck hunting too. Season is 60 days for regular duck. Then 30 more for geese. There's prime public blind in Illinois that put up 500 birds a season. Super x, federal blue, bluesteel still kill the most ducks without a doubt in my mind

The only reason steel isn't obsolete is because bismuth and others are expensive. Bring the price of bismuth to match steel and it will die. I've switched to bismuth and I still use lead for upland every chance I can.
@TheNewHuntersGuide

Well of course, if superior options were just as expensive and widely available there would be no reason to use the inferior product. I pretty much never hunt with steel anymore, but my budget and shooting volume makes bismuth and a bit of tungsten viable for me.

My question is... How bad is lead for wildlife and the environment really? I feel like a bunch of out of touch bureaucrats got lead banned for waterfowl based on a nothing burger of an issue. Steel sucks performance wise and everything else allowed is prohibitively expensive for many people. Pretty soon it'll be banned entirely for all ammunition but I just get the sense it's a non issue in reality.

Thats a question for the scientists, but good luck finding an unbiased one. My conclusions are that ducks would eat lead pellets because they looked like seeds and if they ate enough, they got sick and worse. But lead does not poison the land, lead is present in the dirt itself naturally.
@tombielecki160

Ducks get wounded, fly away and die after getting shot. Ducks full of lead pellets got eaten by Bald Eagles. The eagles were dying from lead poisoning. It's all about the eagles.

@@tombielecki160 Funny, back in the late 70s they were trying to say there were barely any bald eagles left. My uncle said there were nests all along the river and 2 or 3 eagles on every roadkill deer you drove past. They were blaming DDT for a die off back then but the population was by all means healthy in our region. Metallic lead isn't easily digested and absorbed, at least not by humans. Could be different with birds.
