Students often avoid action for fear of failure. But it isn’t failure itself they fear… Here are the five consequences they actually worry about.
After making a mistake in the classroom, students often fear they will be laughed at or mocked by their peers. They may worry about not being seen as interesting anymore, or that their failure will upset those important to them; in particular, parents, guardians and teachers.
Their fears can also be more self-focused, such as being disappointed in themselves or thinking of the worst-case scenario.
To learn how to support your students with these fears, in particular your students with SEND, head to the SEND & Cognitive Science topic area on the Teacher CPD Academy. The Teacher CPD Academy also covers a range of other areas of Cognitive Science research!
