The Dragonhead isles apparently used to sit where Flora river is now, its a 1:1 fit; the dragon islands curves fit the rivers curves, also the dragon head is looking towards the north, the same way floria river turns into waterfalls north. All this is particularly visible when flipping between sky and ground map. They dont overlap, probably because the sky islands drifted away from their original position overtime, but their shape is unmistakeable.

I really love Dragonhead Island. Not only because on my first playthrough I randomly dropped into the main building from above and started the Mineru quest before even dispelling the storm. My personal theory is that the ruined building is Mineru's home and workshop that we see in the memories. It would mean the it was either always up there or also send to the sky after she entered the Purah Pad but we never really see where exactly her workshop is. The vibe and shape actually fits. I also love the calm music on that part of the island.

I like how it mirrors Zelda transforming into the dragon to last the centuries: Mineru doesnt transform into a literal dragon and flies up into the sky like Zelda in the scene where she transforms, but the islands the hold the secret to finding her construct and talking to her in spirit form also rise to the sky in the form of a dragon to wait out the time, just like Zelda.

A common idea I’m seeing amongst Zelda-tubers is the idea that the era of Hyrule’s founding seen in TOTK is set before most other Zelda games. Like here, the idea that the Zonai founded Hyrule close to the time of Skyward Sword. I don’t think this is the case. To me, the implication seems to be that BotW/TotK is so far in the future of the other Zelda games that even its Hyrule’s founding takes place after all the other Zelda games. Multiple Hyrules have been and gone across the millennia, and the Zonai-founded Hyrule is just the most recent. This explanation means that there was no retconning of the history, no multiple Ganondorfs, no reason we should have seen Zonai in earlier games.

I kinda think it's an alternate timeline created from Demise's awakening in the past. So much of the lore (divine descendants coming from the sky and founding Hyrule, Ganondorf, Sages, etc.) feels like an alternate take on previous games' stories. The Zonai would then be this new timeline's version of the people of Skyloft, and Ganondorf would also just be a new version of himself from Ocarina of Time (we can even take this further and say the ancient Sages are alternate versions of Ruto, Nabooru, etc.). The only problem with this is that Link left the Master Sword in the past in Skyward Sword and it ended up in the present, but Skyward Sword's time travel in general makes no sense so I can overlook it.

@@justalaborer713I kind of believe that, but not the new hyrule and tetra part, because i have another theory of where totk fits in the timeline, where it is in an entirely separate timeline that was created around the time that the zonai descended, which was also not long before ocarina of time in my theory, and i find it far more likely, but I won't get too much into that theory. But I do agree that skyloftians become the zonai, because we don't know what happened to them after tears of the kingdom, and it seems like there is a connection between Gaepora, Rauru, And Rauru from totk. Rauru from ocarina of time looks similar to Gaepora, and his owl name is basically the same as gaepora's name, and also rauru from totk is named after rauru from oot, and they are both the sages of light. Also not to mention that rauru from totk's ancestors are said to have descended from the sky, and rauru from ocarina of time can be found in the sacred realm, which is usually depicted as a realm in the sky. And also the zonai seem to worship the three dragons, which are supposed to represent the three golden goddesses, so that makes it even more likely that the zonai are from the sacred realm. My theory is that after skyward sword, the skyloftians found a way into the sacred realm, where they worshipped the three golden goddesses, who were once zonai themselves, who also created zonai technology including secret stones and the triforce, and they became dragons. One of gaepora's descendants was oot rauru, who became the sage of light, and also the leader of the owls, and he descended down to hyrule where he sealed the sacred realm and built the temple of time. Then the zonai evolved to become more like the three golden goddesses, and they descended from the sacred realm, and one of oot rauru's descendants was totk rauru, who founded hyrule and rebuilt the temple of time with hylian architecture. I also believe this is where the timeline splits, and one of the things I first thought of that might have caused the split it is zelda arriving in the past, but there are a bunch of things about that that dont match up, so i think its more likely we just havent learned about what caused this split yet, and we could later on in a future game, or dlc, or a new official timeline. In one of the timeline splits, the zonai don't descend, and the kingdom of hyrule is established by the hylians themselves, and they build a castle next to the temple of time and the master sword, which i believe was once where the lost woods in totk and botw is. In the other timeline, the zonai descend, and they establish the kingdom of hyrule as a union with the hylians, and they find the great plateau, and the old temple of time, but they don't like the location of it, so they use their zonai technology to raise the great plateau, and move it to where the lost woods were, and they moved the lost woods to where the great plateau was. The master sword falls into the lost woods while the great plateau is being raised though, which makes the deku tree to take care of it. The master sword is forgotten about. After a while, Ganondorf sees that the zonai have secret stones, and the events of the memories in totk happen. In the other timeline, Ganondorf doesn't see that the zonai have secret stones, because the zonai never descended, so he instead waits in the gerudo desert longer, and waits for a chance to get the triforce from the master sword, which was forgotten about in the other timeline. Anyway thats my theory, I know there are bits that dont really makes sense, because im still figuring things out, but it makes the most sense for me, from all of the context from the game, which leads me to not think that it is a new hyrule kingdom, or just a retelling of skyward sword, like ive heard a lot of people saying.

An interesting detail that everyone has seen but might not have thought about, is that Zonai built structures can literally fuse with the ground, rocks, and other structures. It is shown even with the same fusion marks that Link's arm has after Rauru fused his arm to him. I tried checking out the great sky island being skyloft theory myself and notaiced a few things that were not mentioned in this video. 1. The land below has multiple locations named after characters from skyloft such as batreax which is pretty much exactly underneath the part where he lived if the great sky island was skyloft. 2. The cold section of the great sky island matches up with the residential area of skyloft which also has some elevation compared to the rest of skyloft. 3. In the middle of skyloft is the bazaar surrounded with infrastructure which is similar to how the great sky island has many ruins located in the middle of it. 4. The lake on skyloft is in a similar position to the lake just outside the temple of time. Therefore, I definitely think this mystery should be explored in more depth to paint a clearer image of the history of skyloft.

I don't buy that the past Hyrule we see in TotK is from just after SS. Regardless, I don't think the TotK have any relation to the old SS sky islands. To begin with, TotK tells us that the sky islands we visit were raised by the ancient sages after Zelda's draconification. Additionally, most of the TotK sky islands look like they were originally on the ground under them and often match the types of stones below.

My own personal crack theory is that the Zonai are related to the three dragons of Skyward Sword. We never really hear from them again afterwards, and some of their interests align surprisingly well with the Zonai. Not to mention the Zonai's draconic features, and the clear importance of dragons in their culture. Lanayru was fascinated with technology, and created sapient robots to work the Timeshift Stone mines and defend his region, which is quite similar to the Zonai Constructs. Faron protected the Ancient Cistern, which purified the waters of Hyrule of malice, stowing it away deep underground (the depths, perhaps?) just like the Zonai tech running the ancient Zora waterworks. Eldin was a storyteller, passing down ancient knowledge to those who would listen, and the Zonai (judging by their many friezes and murals, and Mineru's extensive library) placed great importance on the preservation of knowledge. Honestly, there's not much I've found to back it up aside from those parallels, but that's why it's a crack theory. I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts on it!

I think it's very possible for there to be more Sky Islands higher up. Many people seem to think the islands we see were always there but were hidden from sight by the cloud barrier the dragons would fly through in Breath of the Wild, but I don't think that's the case as several of them are way too low for this to be possible and the falling ruins suggest the islands themselves moved. The book "Notes of the Upheaval" inside Purah's house says the clouds billowed and rolled as the floating islands descended, which paints the picture of them descending from the heavens in a similar way to what you'd expect the dragons to do (what a sight that must've been!). This would mean we still haven't actually explored the mysterious sky realm in gameplay, but this brings me to another idea. I think the sky realm is actually the area with the golden sky the Light Dragon takes us to before we pull the Master Sword. It begins flying upwards right as the cutscene ends making it easy to believe it went through a portal, and it finally taking us to this mysterious heaven world to present us with the sword it's been keeping safe up here for tens of thousands of years is pretty awesome.

It's no secret that BotW and TotK are inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki. So these zen garden like islands in the sky could serve as 'ma' a place where the character is given rest or breathing room from non-stop action. I got 'ma' vibes from Satori Mountain in BotW, so the zen like islands in the sky that don't have enemies or unlockables could be trying to achieve that. One of the things I loved about BotW was the moments of stillness, where you could just take everything in and appreciate what it was, without having to worry about a guardian trying to blow you up. I definitely get that sence of ma from some of the sky islands as they offer such picturesque views and sence of serenity. I think these places are TotK version of 'creating rest or stillness.

Ok here's my timeline theory : I think Hyrule from Rauru's time is not just after SS, because it doesn't fit with the other games, but also because of the Gerudo Gerudos used to have round ears, and only in BOTW they have pointy ears (correct me if i'm wrong) In the memories of Rauru's time, they already have pointy ears (except Ganondorf because he comes from the past if it's the same Ganondorf) So I think that Rauru's time was after all the other Zelda games, and the other games are very very far in the past So when Rauru is referred to as "the first king of hyrule" and "the founder of the kingdom of hyrule" it's actually meaning the first king of the new kingdom that is made after the old kingdom from the old games Because the old kingdom has long been gone/drown/destroyed and was forgotten So the timeline would look something like this : Old timeline (all the other games) ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ Rauru's time ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ 10 000 years ago with the green hero ¦ BOTW - TOTK

My theory is that since most of these islands descended from even further in the sky (so far into the sky it's known as the heavens), there could very well be plenty of islands that didn't descend, if we are to believe that they were up there all through Breath of the Wild and further back in the timeline. I see a lot of people in the comments saying that the writers have been careless and aren't aiming for continuity with the older entries in the series anymore - And yet the devs still went out of their way to keep certain important lore elements from the older games completely intact (especially Skyward Sword, to be fair). Fi remains active in the Master Sword, Goddess Hylia is ever present, Zelda seemingly holds the full triforce, the springs of power, wisdom and courage, seven sages, the importance of the Sheikah, inclusion of the Koroks/Kokiri, Ganondorf being a dark wizard who is king of the Gerudo... To me it feels not like they're trying to start from scratch, but more like they're molding the parts of story that stand at the core of the franchise & are the most intriguing, into something new and awesome that fits with their future plans for the franchise. I believe they most likely just don't want to keep cramming puzzle pieces into the existing timeline branches as it will only make everything more confusing, so they skipped a big chunk of time for a 'soft reset' to be able to add new chapters to the story more freely without everything having to line up perfectly with events from past games. Personally, one theory has really grown on me: that those stories are now just from an age of Legend themselves - tales of long long ago passed down for generations, until fact and fiction became all muddied up and the people of the world unsure how much of it all holds true. And that is what we as fans will get to explore in the future or TLoZ!

Sure they will include some nuggets and Easter eggs here and there, but while TOTK's lore draws a lot from the franchise's key moments (Ganondorf betraying the kingdom, sages etc.) I think its meant to be a remix or retelling. Not a mystery just a theory, spoiler warning I guess for the game's story: So Zelda is the sage of time, she finds out about those powers when traveling to the past and sharpens her time abilities with Sonia. Alongside her time abilities we also got her sacred powers seen in Botw. I know that age of calamity isn't considered canon and doesn't mean much to Tears of the Kingdom's story, but what if Zelda used her time abilities without even realizing. In AOC we get that beautiful memory of a young Zelda and her mother building Terrako. What if she somehow without even knowing poured in some type of time magic into it which later made Terrako travel to the past. It could also be another reason why he sensed her sacred light awaken. The only con of this theory would be the secret stone that made Zelda time travel as it enhanced her unknown ability. Nonetheless, still an interesting thought. Keep up the good videos man!

The side quest on the main Sky Island has the construct telling you all the Sky Islands were raised above specfically for Link to find later on. They were originally on the surface, but were raised up after Raaru sealed Ganondorf away, but Skyloft predates Zonai stuff and last we saw of it, it was still up there after the end of SS. 💥💥IMPORTANT!!! 💥💥Please look at the Zelda Wiki. It states clearly that the Imprisoning War mentioned in 'Tears' is NOT the same as the one that occurred right after 'Ocarina'. They are two entirely separate events, just as our real world has two World Wars and two Persian Gulf Wars. Therefore, it is one hundred percent incorrect to assume that 'Tears' takes place anywhere in proximity to 'Skyward'. 'Breath' takes place ten thousand years after the First Great Calamity, with the Second Great Calamity taking place a century prior to 'Breath' itself, but we don't know how far into the future of Hyrule it and 'Tears' take place, compared to 'Ocarina'. We do not know how much time stretched between the first Imprisoning War and the second one. Only that 'Ocarina' is clearly MUCH earlier in Hyrule's past than the First Great Calamity. Zelda did NOT go back in time to witness the events leading up to 'Ocarina'. Rauru is NOT the same king as in 'Ocarina', despite Ganondorf's insincere submission to him. That is only a demonstration that, all too often, history repeats itself, time and time again: An incarnation of Demise emerges to try to take over, and someone comes along to stop him. Basically, we are not dealing with a timeline that only stretches about fifteen or twenty thousand years. We're talking about MUCH longer timeframes, here. As for the Sky Islands, unless proven otherwise by Aonuma-san and Miyamoto-san, I see no reason to presume that there is no connection between them and previous skyborne islands. I'm willing to bet that the Zonai are descended from the Wind Tribe from 'Minish Cap' (valid, as it takes place long before the timeline split), who may in turn be descended from the people who decided to remain on Skyloft. (Again, we're talking about a VERY long timeframe.) There's a precedent right here in our world: The Neanderthals and modern humans are actually subspecies of Homo sapiens who, being basically the same species, could interbreed and sustain a blended gene pool that lasts to the present day. Thus why the Zonai and the Hylians could interbreed and keep their blended gene pool going to the time of the 'Breath'/'Tears' Zelda (since the cutscenes specifically show that Zelda's inherited some of her powers from Rauru).

In the classic "every zelda is a retelling of the story" fashion. Theory: Zelda (TOTK) is Hilia as she may have the triforce... and people lived on the sky islands before going back down (BOTW) and before link got hand lifted up there. -Not to much stock in it as... robots... but hey 😅 -

I won't lie; the Floating Islands rather disappointed me. So many of them were just floating ruins that largely didn't feel like Floating Islands. I look at the upcoming Granblue Fantasy Relink and see what (largely) the Sky Islands could have been. They just felt like puzzles when they could have been so much more.

The Zelda Timeline does not matter. It's always just the same story being re-told in a slightly different way, not a timeline,, and i think the devs are strongly hinting at that with this game. Hell, it doesn't even line up with its predecessor in terms of continuity with the Sheika technology and what replaced the old Sheika towers.

I really love TotK, but I just can't get all that enthusiastic about the lore or theorizing. At least in BotW, when you find a burned down hunan settlement, you can easily theorize about what humans were doing. TotK leaves us with way more questions than answers, though. There are a ton of those X shaped islands with a shrine, a dispenser, and a launcher, and that's it! The launchers aren't strong enough to get you much of anywhere, even with a wing. Most of the dispensers in there whole game feel like random parts, with few exceptions like the one on dragonhead that's aimed at building fan planes. Most of the depths device platforms are also just *there*. No context, no explanation. The world got so much bigger, but the lore does not expand enough to explain what all these things were for. As you said about dragonhead, it's got one portion dedicated to the factory aspect, but what's the rest for? I don't mind the tradition of leaving lore up to interpretation, but more than BotW, TotK feels like it's just a sandbox of puzzles and landscapes. That's okay in general for a game, and I had fun exploring, but I kept expecting more of it to make some kind of sense, and it really doesn't even try for like 80% of the acreage of the game.

I am not sure if this counts as a theory or mystery, but I was recently playing through tubes of the Kingdom again, and I noticed that in the dissent. Into ganadorf's ceiling chamber after the mural, you can look at the walls and see that the gloom has eaten away at certain parts of it creating a pattern on the rock walls like the degraded weapons on the surface and it has even caused one of the presumably locked doors to completely fall away. There's a lot of environmental storytelling that you can literally just walk right past without ever noticing if you weren't paying attention. If you look at the material correctly, you can find which ones I am referring to. Sadly, I do not have the ability to attach a picture at this moment due to my tech skills (or lack thereof). This is all best seen when starting a new safe file before the area is flooded with malice.

I like to think that Dragonhead Island might be the place where the 3 elemental dragons underwent the Draconification(?) process. Especially since you have to get the Farosh armor to clear the storm above it. Maybe that's not the wildest theory, but it makes sense. There's so much wasted empty space on that sky island chain, I'd love to see if Nintendo is going to add to it with the future DLC. Side note, not a theory. I was exploring Dragonhead Island once before the storm cleared, & I took the COOLEST picture on the Purah Pad. It's of a blood moon through the storm clouds, with a lightning strike going right through the middle of the moon. It's hanging in my Tarreytown custom house lol. I can never delete this play-through because I don't think I could ever recreate it!

Considering the fact that the Zonai were based on Meso-American cultures who tracked and revered astrological bodies and phenomena, I would guess that they were more observatories and/or astrological calendars. Haha, I don't think anything with these floating islands has anything to do with Skyward Sword. It seems like Tears of the Kingdom has retconned Skyward Sword to the point it can't even be considered canon anymore! Which I'm not complaining about too much. Skyward Sword has gotta be the worst Zelda game ever. It's so restrictive.
