Here’s another addition to my USB fan collection: the Soundtech Classic Fan model CS-070. For a USB fan, this one is pretty large. I’d seen this model online before; it’s made by an OEM in China and comes in various colors, grill, body, and blade options. I didn’t expect to find it in Indonesia, though! I got this fan second-hand in mint condition, and since the previous owner was selling other appliances from Singapore, I’m guessing this fan was originally sold there, just like my Soundtech Box Fan.
Physically, this fan is pretty standard for an oscillating fan. I was surprised by how heavy and solid it is. It can run on 3 AA batteries or be powered through a USB port and has just one speed, plus an oscillation feature.
In terms of performance, it seems designed to be a silent fan. The RPM is quite low, but the deep-pitched blades produce a nice, wide breeze. One downside is that the neck isn’t strong enough to support the heavy metal grill, so the oscillation is a bit slow and heavy. You can actually see the difference when the fan’s oscillation is smoother if you turn the fan over or remove the grill.
