Regarding the law, I think most people who break the unconstitutional laws don't think through that decision well enough. For example, if you're driving from gun friendly Indiana to gun friendly Missouri, but are crossing through Illinois for a few hours, think about if you are more likely going to need to defend yourself, or if you are more likely going to be pulled over for a traffic violation. A traffic violation that could then get you arrested for carrying where your permit isn't legal.

Transporting firearms through a state that are otherwise illegal in said state is legal so long as: - the firearm is legal in the state where you started - the firearm is legal in the state of your destination - the firearm is propperly stored & unloaded in the vehicle - you're not taking any uneccesary stops An example of this would be traveling from New Mexico to Wyoming through Colorado. Colorado restricts magazine capacity to 15 rounds. New Mexico and Wyoming have no magazine restrictions. Therefore, it would be completely legal to transport a firearm with a magazine greater than 15 rounds through Colorado in this situation. This is a federal law, you can look it up because there's more details to it than just this. Especially regarding how the firearm needs to be stored.

As someone who grew up with guns for hunting, and only now decades and decades later has moved to CCW and guns for personal protection, I really appreciate the points you make and the subtle differences between safety and politeness you point out. I can think of many instances in which a simple announcement (polite) followed by the proper technique of what was announced (safety) can build immense trust and confidence - both within me and with those I’m with. Great stuff and like so much of the gun world, not necessarily obvious or even intuitive. Thanks 👊

It has been found that people who are Concealed Carry Permit holders tend to be more law abiding than Police Officers. You can look it up if you want at the Crime Prevention Research Center. "...In state after state, the data show that permit holders are extremely law-abiding, even relative to police officers. Our annual reports on the number of concealed handgun permits provide detailed information by state. While the Tribune cites last year’s report on the number of concealed handgun permits issued nationwide, they ignore our discussion on how law-abiding permit holders are in other states. In any case, a number of states such as Florida, Michigan, Texas, and Utah have readily available links where they provide this information." So, I'd have to say you're wrong about us.

In a CCW I took recently they went over how the 4 rules are taught nowadays: 1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded 2. Keep the gun pointed in a safe direction 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot 4. Know your target and its surroundings So a little differently worded than what was taught for a very long time. Also good to note that its pretty difficult to endanger someone without breaking every rule at once

Great question. Is it “your sights are in the target” or “visually confirming your sights are on the target?” Words matter. If shooting from retention is a known skill, then you know exactly where your sights are even if you aren’t looking through them. So if done correctly, shooting from retention is not a violation.

@flyoverkid55 that distinction makes no sense. Refer to James Yeager’s video about administrative gun handling. A gun should be handled with consistency every time. To me, “administrative” gun handling only occurs when the gun is being cleaned or maintained. If it is a loaded weapon, it is handled the same way each time. What part of aiming at a target is “administrative”? I’m just arguing for consistency in wording. Maybe instead of using the words “sights on target” we should refer to it as “AIMED at target” which would allow for valid aiming methods like point shooting, gross sight picture, optic body sight picture, or thumb pectoral index from retention.
@flyoverkid55
3 ай бұрын
@@Katana_Gryphon I use the term " administrative " to describe non combative use of the firearm, i.e. target shooting. You can take your time, be as casual as you like. The comment I responded to asks about shooting from retention. This indicates a use for combative purposes and is therefor not an administrative or casual use. You will note that I made no mention of safety or consistency, that's another subject. Just my 2 cents.

I offer the following change. You are a *human*. You have a right to keep and bear arms. This value, whether you believe it is granted by God or is merely a byproduct of rationality, is an underappreciated pillar of a sustainably free and prosperous society. This is not granted in the Constitution, this is merely a preliminary acknowledgement to the promise - routinely broken - that the United States government will not infringe on that right. Unfortunately, most of the world disagrees. Most of the world, as a result, will suffer when their governments devolve into greater and greater forms of totalitarianism and the people have rejected being peaceful for being harmless. This ties well into knowing the consequences of following the law, as well as not following the law.
