Robert here on this one... prepare loosing very close friends AND being alone most of the time. And I agree.. TIME GOES FAST. Also, leaving does not bother me at all. BUT, I do feel very fortunate living sooo long. 89 and only take three prescriptions. Approaching 90 on January 1st. RELAX and enjoy. Ha

One thing I would add; since retirement, I get less sleep 😴 I'm now awake every morning around 4 a.m. Before I retired, I had to set the alarm on my phone for 6 a.m. Okay, may God allow us to live a long and fruitful life. Hey Steve, I just turned 79 years old. I just passed my drivers test to renew my license, I easily passed the eye exam. I have very good eye sight. I also read without glasses. What benefited me the most is I don't eat junk food like most people do. Junk food causes most health problems as well as vision problems. Your body needs vitamins and minerals. It dosen't get them from junk food. Most processed food contains sugar. Sugar is like a poison to the body. I changed my diet years ago. I do intermittent fasting. That's where you eat all your meals within a six hour window. I take no prescription drugs at all. I almost never see a doctor. I noticed when you go to the doctor they always fine something wrong with you. I absolutely love retirement. I retired when I turned 55 years old. You might also want to try the Keto diet GOOD LUCK

Wow, that is awesome that you retired at 55 and that you are still driving at 79! I’m sure you are right about the junk food and sugar. I go back-and-forth on this a lot. I was raised on junk food and so I’m addicted to it. I also love really healthy food too. So I do get a bit of a balance at least. If I couldn’t eat ice cream and moderate amount of junk food for life wouldn’t be worth living. I guess we all have to make our choices. For me, though moderation seems to be the way to go. You gave me an idea for a video though. So thank you for sharing this with all of us. 😄👍

Grass to be mowed,bushes tended to. And we have a vegetable garden in containers that have to be watered daily. We have a sun room that I grow plants in and also propagate plants. My passion now are growing Hardy hibiscus and canna lillies. Our days are kept quite busy.

I feel the same way. I retired almost 5 yrs ago, and I often have to check to see what day it is. When I was growing up, whenever a retired family member said that they didn't know what day it was, I thought they were just weird. Well now, that they are all gone, and I have reached that threshold, I know, truly, I know. I had to laugh out loud when you spoke of your dry skin. Mine is also dry, I go thru loads of lotion. Regarding appointment, the medical profession think that you are suppose to go to the dr. alot. once you reach a certain age. I don't understand their thinking, but I guess they think that since we are starting to fall apart that we need their help, especially since we didn't need them when we were young. They are always so surprised that I don't take meds. I make it very clear to them that Meds do more harm then good, and that has been proven. This is my first time seeing your video. I will have to check more.

For me the #1 downside is that I have spent my entire retirement taking care of my mother who is now 98. I do have caregivers for my mother but it is almost like having a tiny baby.. #2 Covid 19 was like over 2 years in a Jail. #3 Hyper Inflation. A thyroid scan, appointment with my primary and 2 eye appointments with 2 different doctors. Seems like it's all I ever do. I go to doctors more than I have my entire life. I also noticed that time goes by faster. Not right away. But eventually, i did. I remember when I was a kid, days seemed endlessly long. Lol. But overall, I like being retired. I’m in great health, no issues, but it’s the regular dentist and doctors. I always make my appointments in the afternoon so I have plenty of time not to jump up and rush out early. Just lazy now and I hate having to be somewhere during morning rush hour. I’m so busy everyday that I don’t know how I found time to work. LOL 😂. My Mom had dementia also, it is a concern for me, I know I will need to make some plans in the next few years just in case. My Mom would never listen to me before she became sick and once you have dementia it’s too late for Power of Attorney, etc. you have to be of sound mind. I want to have a plan in place while I can still decide what I want rather than putting that burden on my loved ones.

For me once I hit 50 time goes by quicker it seems... I hate it! I quit worrying about when my ticket gets punched (death), its gonna happen one day! I let it go and just try to enjoy the now. Dry skin, I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, along with other health issues, but I'm still above ground and moving around! So its a good day... Me to, blood work! Can't they just install a spigot? Cheers buddy, life is what it is but we woke up today. And thats a good thing!

I have been with my husband for 44 years. He is 3 1/2 years older than me, which was never a big deal until he retired at 64. He will be 69 in a couple of days and I feel pressured to retire as soon as possible because we are running out of time. 😟

Thanks for sharing with us, Paul. I hope you guys still have many years to enjoy retirement together. Definitely does go by faster as you get older, but it also makes every day that much more special! 😄👍

I refuse all early morning appointments. I want afternoon. I will wait. I got up early for years, and I refuse now. I try and get app. all on the same days or one day apart. rest of the time is MINE. I totally get Jim's remark about what day it is. trash day, I always look, because can't miss that one. other than that, I don't care what day it is. I enjoy each weekend, because for a long while I worked every other one.

Do you have a humidifier? This might help your dry skin. Living in the desert there's very little humidity. Most of my complaints are age. Feeling limitations within the body, not being as dextrous, agile, muscular aches or pains.
@theretiredlifewithsteve
19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion, Andy. I think you were right. It would probably help with the skin, but we used to live by the beach and the humidity was too much for my lungs. I have a much easier time breathing when the air is dry lol! It’s like I find a solution for one thing, but then it messes something else up. 🤔😂
