The pegs... It's a cruiser, most cruisers have forward legs, that allows for the sitting position, . As for a car pulling in front of you, cancel your turn signals!, luckily the diavel has self cancelling. Trunk, carry a backpack, battery, that will be the one thing I agree with you..
@douglaselliott8298
6 жыл бұрын
Cruza; Locating the battery where Ducati did is one of the reasons your Diavel handles as brilliantly as it does. 'Dummy' pegs will leave you with the same lack of confidence(and increased danger) because your foot 'controls' will be absent. Either get used to it or spread your cheeks for Ducati's answer. Or mount "dummy" forward mounts after your Italian buggery. 'Bikers' have called them "Highway Pegs" for decades. Except for the replacement of the ubiquitously effete HORN motorcycles are commonly given; For the next 5000 miles suspend all activity altering the motorcycle and defer to gripe #5.
@cessnatpa

Douglas Elliott I agree, the mid foot pegs will decrease his reaction time in an emergency creating more of a danger than the minimal safety benefit of "jumping off". And you could always add a top box or side cases for your ride to California, easily remove them when not needed.

May 2016. Kawasaki concours vs deer. 72 mph. I didn't bail and I didn't try to take the ditch. I hung on and it was the best decision I ever made. I went through the centre of the deer and broke it in half. I didn't go down and I walked away with a slightly sore back and covered on my left side in grass. The deer didn't do as well and most of the front of the bike was missing, i.e. fairing and lights. I can't imagine ever jumping off but I guess there might be a situation where you could. I think if I was heading for a truck I would swerve the bike instead of slicing under it after jumping. I thought bailing out was only for planes.

Cyclecruza maybe take your bike to a Ducati service shop and see if they can wire you up some extra plug ins and look nice without voided your warranty. As for the foot pegs being in the middle I have ridden thousands of miles and it isn't no where near as comfortable as feet forward. You want feel like riding to California with your feet in the middle. Don't believe me bottoe or rent a cruiser and ride a weekend with your feet in the middle position. I've said this already but give yourself more reaction time and enjoy your comfort.

mid controls and jumping off bikes.... sigh.... so much misinformation... mid controls help you WHILE you are on the bike, not to GET OFF the bike. With mid controls you can hold yourself on the bike using your legs alone. you can raise your butt off the seat when you are about to go over a big obstacle on the road and let the bike sort it out on its own. and they allow you greater movement on the bike for hanging off the bike on turns. jumping off bike or "laying it" are NOT realistic options. Your best bet, if swerving around is not an option anymore, is to use your brakes to the max without locking them allowing you to reduce the impact speed as much as possible.
@CycleCruza
6 жыл бұрын
I did not say they are for jumping off the bike, however, that what I want them for. Btw, I jump off my wr250r to avoid trouble off-road and it works. It is feasible to jump off the bike to avoid getting nailed by a car, I had a viewer thank me in a comment, he said my advice helped save his life. He said a truck ran a stop sign and he was able to jump off the bike and onto the top of the truck while his bike got smashed to smithereens. He walked away without a scratch. Sometimes you have to THINK outside the box if you want to stay safe....Peace!
@Skyerzen
6 жыл бұрын
I wager his injury-less accident had more to do with blind luck than his acrobatic skills. Still, the laws of physics, paired up with realistic timetables (that is microseconds to realize you are already in an accident), tells everyone with a reasonable understanding of the laws of physics, that your best bet is to stay on the brakes as loooooooong as possible without locking them before impact. For you see, if you jump off your vehicle (let's say in this scenario you have enough time to do so) you are no longer slowing down, you are now traveling at the same speed you were traveling when you abandoned your vehicle. And as you and I know, it's the impact that hurts you. The only device you have to lessen the force of impact is the brakes.... the same ones you left behind on that bike you just abandoned...
@Skyerzen
6 жыл бұрын
Let me just add that maybe you can clear the object you are about to impact if you jump over it, then yes, jumping IS a viable option except for one thing... most of us can only jump tops 3 feet? You would have to be very athletic to clear a normal car or about to t-bone a lambo... And then if you do clear said object, now you have to deal with hitting the ground safely. My beef with your comment was not with using the mid control pegs to "jump" off the bike, it was more to do with the fact that jumping off the pegs is the last advantage of mid controls that I would think off... First advantage to me is bike control/leg grip. Second is better Body Position mobility. Third is the ability to stand on them to use your legs to absorb obstacles. Then at the end, the ability to jump off...

Ducati is known for placing their battery in weird places. Mine is under my gas tank. @.@

At least the battery being under the bike keeps the mass lower. Just wear a fanny pack for the other stuff you need to carry!
