About to buy a 1978 Triumph Bonneville in supposedly show room condition. Haven't seen it yet but will tomorrow at 11. Had a 73 triumph that was hacked, had to push the header pipe back in with my boot. Made a vow back then, if I could ever buy on that was pristine and not hacked, I'd get it. I hope I found my dream.

Actually: your pipes are correct, high level pipes were an after market thought. Yes I had them on my T100ss. A very good commuter bike. I bored out my inlet manifold, to fit a larger carb, 1/38" Amal concentric mk2s. The reason for chaining from 180% to 270% was to help balancing. This cut down on vibration at the loss of that lovely sound! I am an old Brit, & have had many Triumphs, possibly one of the best all rounders. Love your T100C, nice one.

Nice to see someone your age appreciate the old Triumphs. I'm 68 years old and growing up in the '60s, the superbikes then were a Triumph Bonneville and an XLCH Sportster, there were BSAs, Nortons and occasionally you might see a MK1 or MK 2 Royal Enfield Interceptor but they were pretty rare. The guys I hung out with all wanted the Triumph or Harley, I've ridden and/or owned them all at one point. I had a 500cc Triumph and like yours it had some shifting issues, occasionally it would drop out of 2nd. If I was going to buy any of the old bikes I would get a Triumph Bonneville, probably a '66 because that's what I had before. I don't know if you've driven one from back then but in my opinion everything you like about yours goes the same for the Bonny except a little more hassle with dual carbs but a lot of power.

Hey thanks for your comment! Yeah that's the same problem I have with mine, it drops out of first every now bc and then and plenty of false neutrals. I'd love to ride a Bonnie from then! The 66 is the one with the white paint and orange stripes right?

@@bartmotorcycle Yes, the '66 is white with the orange stripe and I had a '69 single carb Tiger, but the 66 was way more powerful. The XLCH Sportsters back then were just a little faster in a straight line but not even close as far as handling, I owned both and I liked both but the Bonny was a far better overall bike in my opinion, it had everything, looks, power, handling, easy to start and all of mine were reliable. I would really like to get another one but they are getting hard to find and I'm kind of picky.

Yeah the sportsters we're significantly heavier and those triumphs were the best handling bikes in the world. I wish I could have been alive when the British motorcycle industry was on top.

I agree , I have a T160 , Norton 750 and a Matchless G80 rigid, cheap rego , and insurance, hold there value well but , you have to maintain them and maybe do a full rebuild , parts availability is better than the 70s Jap bikes I own . Cheers cool bike .

So, when you turn on the light, the red igniton control ist also lit? And the neutral control is always lit anyway? They look nice, but what are they for?

Red or amber light on the left is the charge warning light....should go out as the RPM's go a bit over idle (over 1000 rpm or so). Since he had the headlight on (can be turned off on older bikes) it uses more power and it takes more rpm before warning light goes out. The other green/blue light is usually the high beam warning light. No neutral light on this old machines. Unsure why it seemed to be on all the time in this video...

@@TornadoCAN99 When you look at 6:35, both idiot lights are lit, he´s definitely revving over 1000 rpm, and definitely running on low beam, and not in neutral. But thanks for an answer, anyway!

I had a 1972 Daytona up to 1979, biggest mistake I ever made when I sold it.

I hate to be 'that guy', but the old triumphs are not 180 degree firing order, they are 360 degree firing order. They have an even drone sound when revved, but at idle have the uneven harley-esque sound because of the discrepancies caused by carb and timing imperfections.

Yes you're right, this was my mistake. 180 degree firing orders have no character, like the current kawasaki 650. Thanks for the correction!

You ride an older Triumph because you have a complex and you want to look cool? I'm guessing you just have complex concepts about owning and riding a late model Triumph. If so, I would have to agree with you 100%. Old Triumphs rock.

Had a 73 triumph, bought the first 2001 triumph Bonneville America. I liked the 01, nice bike, but in no way did it compare to a real triumph of yesteryear.
