This video is what I needed, I am currently in school and they provided us with a Sony fx6. Now although its an amazing cinema camera with great specs it is a lot to take it with me wherever I go. Its huge with all the rigging I have and on top of that its not versatile for me to bring everywhere I go to pint and shoot without it being an eye sore and grabbing peoples attention. I want something that is similar but much more easy and travel size when I go places. Another part as well is that it doesn't take photo and that is something I like to do. So obviously I'm looking for a hybrid camera, possibly lean a bit more on video since that's where my interest lies. Any ideas would be helpful, this video was informative and will keep thinking about what I should do.

My version as a solo hobbyist video shooter is just 1 question: 1) Can I afford an FX3? - yes: get it. no: ZV-E1 Probably ZV-E1 regardless: legendary sensor from FX3/A7S3, legendary AI chip from A7R5, small form factor that can be adapted to all kinds of scenarios (including a small cage with a fan for fixing thermal limitations), insanely low price considering what you're getting.
@JeremiahBostwick

Not a bad take at all if you prefer shooting a mostly bare camera. But I'll say the pain point for me is the mini-HDMI. The lack of RAW output also isn't my favorite, but again considering the price point and included features - it's a reasonable omission. Anyway, it's just a harder camera to rig because the aftermarket for it isn't as built out as FX3/30
@DigiDriftZone
6 ай бұрын
@@JeremiahBostwick The mini-HDMI is a bit of a pain that's true. As for RAW, Gerald Undone tested it vs just SLOG3 and a high bitrate codec and said there is no difference in quality or dynamic range? - what is the motivation for shooting raw? There are a few new cages recently for the ZV-E1 but yes, an FX3 is a better choice if you are planning to do rigged out professional shoots.
@JeremiahBostwick
6 ай бұрын
@@DigiDriftZone Most people haven't tested the camera properly to show the differences. Most people are using Slog3/Sgamut3.cine instead of Slog3/Sgamut3. Sgamut3 is a significantly larger color space. The second part to show the difference is in HDR where having that much larger color space matters. Sgamut3.cine is designed to fit neatly into DCI-P3. Rec2020, dwarfs DCI-P3 and Rec709 in both luminosity and color tonality, which is why the much larger color space of Sgamut3 is important. Of course there isn't a difference in Sgamut3.cine in 10-bit vs 12-bit, because the color space is already constrained, then viewed on a 10-bit display, in an SDR colorspace. As for quality, I would also say there is a difference there too. All of the codecs are bitrate limited. In low DR scenes it's a non-issue. But if shooting a scene that uses every stop of DR the camera offers, the DP will have to make a sacrifice either to the highlights or to the shadows - specifically because these lower bit-rate codecs will experience a significant drop in IQ in shadow detail leading to things like macro-blocking. This same problem will also occur if improperly shooting the camera under-exposed (but we're making an assumption that a DP will use the tools properly), where you won't get these problems in RAW. Do those things matter if your target is social media? Probably not. But if you intend to high end narrative, shoot docs, do a bunch of CG, or you want to grade into HDR, maximizing the source format matters. Which is precisely why Gareth Edwards shot all of "The Creator" using a Ninja V and ProRes Raw.

Theres also features in a camera youll learn....NEVER mattered. I got the FX30 as my first "cinema" camera (it says cinema on it, its bigger brother shot a blockbuster...idc) and it was a gigantic jump for me from a sony A6400. I have 10 bit 4:2:2, full HDMI out, and RAW. First feature right away I NEVER cared about that I dont even have was the sensor size. Its an APSC sensor. The more I hear about how AMAZING full frame is...I dont see why. Maybe because I shot on APSc for so long and still continue to? I just dont care that much for it. My lenses are cheaper so I win there. 2nd was RAW. RAW has to be done externally to an Atomos Ninja V but I get 12 bit ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ in 4.7k and I thought I would use the HELL out of being able to shoot RAW and....nope. 7/10 times I shoot just ProRes 422 HQ because my macbook likes it better (even my PC does) or ill shoot internal XAVC S-I. I learned very quickly that 10 bit 422 (even Sony's internal codecs) go SUCH a long way in grading that people don't give it credit for. I have made some of the best color grades I have ever seen in my life with only 10 bit footage. Its crazy jumping from a consumer camera to a professional camera you think 10 bit is a gigantic jump...until youre in now with other cinema camera peeps and they have 12 bit, 14 bit, 16 bit and shit on 10 bit. I look at some of their footage and it just looks like they put the R.709 LUT on their LOG footage or Davincis CST, gave it some contrast, put teal in their shadows....and thats it. I have a 10 bit camera and go MUCH crazier with my grades and friends who own the RED Komodo are just puting on R.709 luts. Yea, 10 bit is totally good enough for 85% of shooters in here

@@farzadjahanfard I'll tell you right now that both of those cameras are very different. I wouldn't even put them into the same product category. If you want something to shoot your daily life, street photography, travel, then I'd get the Fuji. I'd only get the a6700 if you wanted to shoot a significant amount of video. Ergonomically it's simply not that great. It's not a "fun" camera to shoot stills on. In short, Sony makes a lot of great cameras, but the entire 6xxx series at this point aren't worth it. Get a ZV-E1, or A7CII, or A7iv if you want mid to lower cost Sony cameras. Though admittedly all of those cost more than the a6700. Otherwise another camera to consider is the Nikon ZF if you like its retro handling, but want full frame, and 10-bit video. Paired with the 40mm f/2 it's a very compact system. Finally, check the used market. Provided whatever you're buying hasn't been dropped or otherwise damaged, cameras worked basically for far longer than you'd likely ever want to keep it for. That said, I've found A7iv's for

Use what ever 1080p camera and get AI to enhance the look and resolution. You want your footage to look like it was shot on a RED/Nikon? AI has got your back. All you need to worry about is increasing your skills on how to shoot and story tell.
@InfamousStar1
6 ай бұрын
Sorry, but I, along with legit professionals who do high-end video production for clients, would disagree. Yes, storytelling and improving skills is great and all; that’s a given, no matter the hardware used. And while AI helps to upscale resolution (to an extent), it can also introduce artifacts and make the image look “plasticy”. AI still has, and always will, have its limitations. It will never be perfect. It’ll improve, but will never be better than what can be captured natively / organically. And what about dynamic range? This may be the most important one of all. Not all cameras are created equal. Will the dynamic range of a Canon Rebel T2i match that of an Arri Alexa? Nope. Will running that T2i footage through AI get it close? Absolutely not. Might look cleaner than its native resolution and codecs, but it’s not going to look like ARRI, nor RED footage. What about color bit depth? 8-bit from 1080p footage, compared to 12 and 16-bit RAW? Is AI going to magically create billions more bits of color information? What about rolling shutter, and overall organic and film-like motion cadence that ARRI and REDs produce? Is AI going to magically create that for any 1080p camera? I’m sure you can guess the answer based in past patterns. 😉 Anyone who thinks otherwise shouldn’t be taken seriously within this industry.

I feel you. And I’m not trying to pick a fight. In my opinion l see a shift happening in the near future where commercial video production companies will have to find away to pivot their businesses because of AI. I have seen companies sell them selves as high quality, passionate filmmakers with awesome gear. Clients are starting not to care. If these companies don’t become experts in solving problems and guaranteeing an ROI, they will struggle. I’m not trying to pick a fight. This is just my opinion.

I got a hybrid camera, but only use it as a cinema camera even though it isn't (it's an A7IV). Most cameras that came out after 2020-2021 are good to use as a cinema camera unless you are an industry professional. This is something I wish I knew before almost buying a FX3 with a $100 prime lens vs. the A7IV I bought with a great lens and two good key lights with soft boxes. Lighting and lenses truly take your films to the next level and cameras hardly matter nowadays. Never forget about The Possession of Hannah Grace that still holds up and looks gorgeous and was shot on an A7SII. Lighting and lenses made that film hold up, not the camera.

These days, I feel like Resolution doesn't really matter. Because you can just upscale a 1080p 100mbps to the equivalent of a 4k 50mbps which is the max bitrate for youtube anyways. Nevermind using upscaling tools in Resolve or like topaz. But like any camera these days can do a great job, I mean the Fujifilm X-T5 is a hybrid camera with 40mp sensor that shoots 6.2k raw video and it's only $1500.
