I don't know how traditional of a method it is, but I prefer to rip it up with my chopsticks into smaller bits so can grab an occasional piece of the whites between noodles and stir the yolk in to fortify the broth some more. Does take a bit of practice, but I enjoy it.

western style oddly taught me to spiral the noodles on the chop sticks in the bowl to get more noodle in one pull. Similar to spaghetti where Italians fork noodles into a large spoon and spin the fork on the spoon, harvesting a ball of noodle. the spiral also harbors more broth and when the soup cools too much will make each bite as hot as possible which borders perfection by increasing noodle amount in the spiral to make it hotter when needed.

Pork with soy source base is also my favourite ramen bowl. I looked forward to my daily ramen as a skiing break, when on the slopes of Niseko. I also love the spicy variant; there is a ramen restaurant specialising in very spicy ramen at with a lot of dramatic Engrish, in Hirafu, which I recommend.

I learned how to eat ramen from a Japanese truck driving friend at highway rest-stops. He always said the best way to eat ramen was to pick up the bowl and not set it down until you're done. He'd say if you weren't sweating, eyes tearing, and nose running by the time you finished eating a hot bowl of ramen, it wasn't hot enough. Yet he still managed to not break a single one of these taboos. I never could duplicate the way he'd eat without splashing any broth.

Firm noodles are always the way to go. I'm a slow eater and am never be able to finish my ramen before the noodles go soggy if I get anything less than firm noodles. Firm noodles, miso garlic broth, buttered corn, baby spinach if I don't have nori, soft boiled egg and... the most blasphemous ingredient of all, cubed paneer. I don't like tofu, I think it's awful. Paneer has a similar texture to tofu and a very mild flavour that is a great at soaking up the flavour of the broth. It serves the same function as tofu but I think it much nicer than tofu.

I didn't had ramen in Japan due to the fact that I was vegetarian, but I did remember watching surroundings in a restaurant where they served udon soup (I found vegetarian version btw) and I knew somehow that if people weren't slurping, don't slurp or keep the noise mimimun. So I used both chopstick and the spoon in order to eat udon. Udon and soba dishes are one of the reason I miss Japan, though it's going to be a long time until I can visit being. /soon to be college student again.

I've broke 2 of those rules on my first try - 1. I slurped few times loudly, but it was too hot at the beginning so I hope that wasn't too problematic. 2. I bit few times the noodles, to my defense I did my best to not do that in 90% of my meal. With that said my first ramen although in London, was a spiritual experience. I strongly recommend ramen to my friends. For those interested I recommend the Japanese restaurant in London North Greenwich station near O2 called Wagamama if its still there and the cook is the same (it has been around 6 years now so don't expect the same experience).

Slurping when the noodles are hot is actually to be expected. Another explanation of slurping noodles I’ve heard is to cool it down as you’re eating, since you are meant to eat ramen quickly while it’s hot

There’s a major problem with Taboo 2. Inhaling air whilst eating is a Taboo in itself. I know we all swallow a small amount of air as we eat but on purpose inhaling or swallowing air is a sure fire way of getting bad, if not very bad indigestion. And no one wants indigestion. Not only because of the discomfort and pain. But because all that inhaled/swallowed air has to go somewhere after eating too. And there’s only 2 exits in a human body for it. When it does exit the body, not only can it be embarrassing but it can be off putting as well…….. ⚛️☮️🌏

The way I tend to solve nr. 5 is by pulling up the noodles first to estimate how much I got and if it's too much (or tangled up with other noodles still in the bowl) I'll try to lower some off of my chopsticks or just dip them back in the soup and grab a smaller amount with my chopsticks instead. I'm not going to bring noodles to my mouth if I'm not sure if I'm getting too much, you don't want that awkward moment where you end up having too much in one go and having to bite them off :')
