Informative video, i do most of your recommendations. An additional tip I would like to share. Ensure that one of your credit cards has different card numbers. On one of our trips, my wife was pick pocketed. When I contacted the credit/debit companies, i realized that our debit account and one of our credit card accounts had different numbers on the actual cards (same account). Not the security (CCY) number. If all our cards had the same card numbers, we would not have access to funds till our new cards arrived. Could have been several days. It's tough living overseas without access to funds. Yes, we keep a little foreign cash with us. Now as a backup to the backup, I keep an additional credit card in the hotel safe. We now carry one credit card and one debit card with different numbers on our person from each other. Two credit and one debit card with another credit card back in the hotel safe. The thieves rang up several thousand dollars within an hour after the thief before the companies shut them down. We watched them in real time recieving text messages for each purchase. SMS notifications are important to establish before travel. That is how we knew we were pick pocketed. I contacted the credit/debit card companies as soon as possible. Accounts were shutdown. I declined to have new cards sent, since I had other cards with different numbers with us. All the charges were covered by the companies at no cost to us. Ensure that you have adequate contact numbers for each credit/debit card that you bring overseas. Another record for copies as physical and in the cloud. After the event, all I can say is that we felt bad and learned a valuable lesson. It all worked out great in the end with our continued journey. Thanks for your excellent video.

Great information!! Thanks for sharing 😊 And yes definitely having multiple card options is so important (even if you typically only rely on one). And notifications for card use is such an important one that often gets missed! We get emails every transaction and it’s so nice knowing every purchase right away. Thanks so much for sharing your experience 😊

Info of emergency contacts….both in your home country and in the country you’re traveling to (if possible). I always bring the phone number of customer service of my primary credit card….in case I lose it or it’s stolen. Great to see you guys again. Can’t wait to see your travel videos again. You did a great job with Ecuador, Guatemala, etc.

Consider a 32GB micro-SD with SD adapter for about $3USD. You could store all your critical docs encrypted on a couple of these so you could each have a copy. For daily storage you could embed them in a waterproof pocket (taped up portion of a Ziplock bag) in your shoes for instance as these weigh 0.25 grams and are about the size of your smallest fingernail. Like cloud storage encrypt with a password you don't use for other sensitive data as someone other than you might be unencrypting this data for you. A secondary benefit of the micro-SD is storing unencrypted insurance, medical, and emergency contact information a provider might need in the event you are injured. A third benefit of a micro-SD is storing configuration information for phone apps, contacts, favorite web sites, credentials for digital subscriptions, etc. in the event your phone is stolen. Larger capacity micro-SD cards would be great for a secondary or tertiary backup of captured photos/videos you could not bear losing.

Great video. One thing I've done when traveling with another person is to swap some of our clothing in case one of our luggage gets lost. That way you can have something to wear until your luggage is found. Also, I always pack a change of clothing in my personal bag.

Oooh, great idea! We often will keep one change of clothes in personal-size backpack, in case this happens. We've also lost a bag once and Eric didn't have any of his clothes for 4 days! Swapping some clothes with your travel partner is definitely a good idea!

We do the same as you booking flights with google flights... we use an incognito tab as if you have to come back to book it they raise the prices on you each time you come back generally.

Ahh yes always a good idea (although I never see the prices actually change… but I still don’t trust it 😉)

Thanks a lot and, I agree! All of it matches everything I do and yes - then there is the app when going to Ecuador. Like you Eric, I don't really bother here, st home in Ireland - don:t really need it and, don't want to be dependent on it but, probably will have to down there... Take care and, looking do much forward to hear where you are going this time....😊

Love all your tips for the average overseas traveler. What I cannot get over was how casual you both were on your trips, but, in reality, a ton of preparation was involved to make your trips go so smoothly!

@@EricandSarah Question! So, I'm booking flights. How do you set up a taxi/private car/bus/ a safe way to get from Guatemala airport to Antigua? Is there a way to set that up with the hostel? Is it easy to get a car once you land? I'll have my Little bro with me so it needs a safe way of transportation especially if we cant get a morning flight. Right now the best flights both is duration and price don't get there until 10pm. I also rather get to Antigua that night then stay in Guatemala City since we will only be there for 6 days.

@@tannermichels5451 if you contact your accommodation in advance they will be able to arrange it or give you contact to arrange it! Travelling from Guatemala City to Antigua is very common so they’re lots of private drivers willing to do the journey 😊
