Another fun fact: The song "Battery" came to be because they were writing the song "Master of Puppets" and kept adding riffs to it. At one point, they had one more riff written for it, but decided that the song was already crammed with enough riffs, so they took it, and turned it into the main riff from "Battery".

"HAMMETT: I’ll tell you how the main [descending] riff to “Master of Puppets” came about. On the Ride the Lightning tour, James would always play the riff in the dressing room, but on the D string, and I’d play it simultaneously on the G string as a parallel-fourths harmony line. It sounded really dorky and funny. Then one day at rehearsal, James said, “Let me show you this really heavy song intro,” and proceeded to play that exact riff on the low E string. I said, “Ah, so you finally found a use for that dorky little thing!” It’s anything but dorky now."

Fun (or not so to some due to current events) fact: Russian government-owned TV channel called "Culture" (which is about only arts in different forms without ads) definitely had a Metallica fan in the sound department, as they acquired the rights for Apocalyptica's first 3 albums back in 2001 and used them extensively here and there.

Man. That album is just an absolute punch in the genitals. After 30 years (I got into metal a littel late) it still has not lost its luster in any way. Master, and ...And Justice are hands down their best albums of that Classical-based thrash time of their career. Ride the LIghtning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justuce for All shoud be required reading with Kill 'em All as a suplimental/Extra credit. And don't let the haters fool you, the black album (self titled Metallica) is nothing to sleep on either. "HAMMETT: We were drinking at the Carlson house one night, and Lars turned on the tape deck: "Listen to this, man. Forstex Multitrack Mesa/Boogies with James playing the heaviest riff ever!" It was the main riff to "Master of Puppets", which had been quadrupled on all four tracks and sounded super heavy. How often did you actually accomplish those kind of drunken goals when you and your friends were hammered? As soon as the possiblity of instant gratification was taken off the table, all your brilliant schemes and quests were quickly forgotten about, and you were on to the next one. Likely, this was said as a goof, and everyone latched onto it, like, "yeah, we gotta get Bobcat, man, that'd be rad!", and someone said it would cost too much, so they just forgot about it, and got busy making arguably the best thrash album of all time. I've seen comedians open for bands in the past. The audiences were always brutal to them. They were up there trying their best to go through their routines, while the audiences were swearing at them, screaming for them to get off of the stage -while demanding to see the band. Sometimes they just stopped their jokes and walked off stage. That left a void with nothing happening until the band came out at their scheduled time slot. I don't know why a comic would ever want to book a gig opening for a rock band.
