Thanks for the tips. I would add one more, that took me a while to actually see with my own eyes. Keep the tire pressure high, if the conditions allow it (you don't want to run on snow, mud or heavy rain with over-inflated tires). This had a surprisingly big effect on my fuel consumption. Before inflating tiers (2.0 - 2.1 atm) I had a fuel consumption of 6.1, after inflating tires (2.3 - 2.4 atm) I had a fuel consumption of 5.3. On the same stretch of road I usually take.

I'm getting a new Dacia Sandaro Stepway Bi fuel. Is there any different advice if planning to run in LPG regarding getting the best economy?

LPG run in Otto-Cycle, so there shouldn't be any difference to Gasoline-Cars.

Do you think eco-driving can have an impact on modern ICE-Cars with GPF/DPF filters? They tend to become clogged and force users to perform certain actions like having a longer trip with high revs.

I was discussing exactly this with a mechanic yesterday (for the umpteenth time, different mechanic every time), and he gave me the same answer as all the others, no, low revs are not bad for the engine as long there is no rattling and the engine is warm (so with petrol cars after about 2 kms). He also said the same thing as I said, what the automatic gearbox allows is ok.

Inflate your tires! 2.8kg i have it makes a big difference! Engine brake as much as possible.

I have used the techniques you describe for many years and usually achieve consumption levels as good as, or better than the figure stated by the car manufacturer. But the one 'eco' device I ignore is the so called 'eco nanny' light/indicator the manufacturer provides. I have owned diesel manual Amaroks and always found that by staying in 5th gear at speeds below 95 kph,on country roads, the economy to be better than when using 6th gear (as instructed by the vehicle !). I have also experienced this with other cars such as Volvo estates. I think having mechanical sympathy/understanding helps a lot but many vehicle owners will never understand nor develop this attitude. Your videos are very informative - keep them coming.

I found that to with Ford C Max 1.6 TDCI. If you put to much of a strain on the engine with to low rpm consumption skyrockets . In my case best consumption is between 1700 to 2300 rpm

Low RPM & high load, yes, but within reason. A risky recommendation without pointing out the caveats. Folks will lug the engine which will indeed do damage.

Service your car! Clogged air filter, worn out spark plugs and lugging brakes all ruin fuel economy. (Disclosure: I'm a receptionist at a car repair shop.)

Thanks for a great video! What's your take on skipping gears, for example from 2 to 4 or 3 to 5? This would mean higher revs to pick up speed, but this was something I was taught during driving school.

+1 for checking tyre pressure (and inflating +10% or so).

First of all, thank you for the value brought by the videos on this channel. Even when trying to ecodriving, I'm far away from these results! So I will try do drive even better. The main question which is not clear for me at the moment is : do I have to reach quickly my cruising speed (and rapidly switching gears for keeping low revs as much as possible), or do I have to accelerate more gently to reach my speed goal? Which solution is the more efficient ? In other words, how to dose the load on the right pedal within this 1000-2000 rpms range ?!

Thanks! I'd say in the first two gears go with half throttle and keep revs as low as possible, from 3rd gear on I normally push the pedal fully through but also shift as early as possible. For me it also depends on the traffic situation, sometimes it's required to accelerate a bit faster, but I still try to keep revs down, if possible, I accelerate gently.

@@ecodriver1746 > "from 3rd gear on I normally push the pedal fully through but also shift as early as possible" Interesting, so pedal to the floor from 3rd gear on as long as revs don't go too high over 2000 RPM? I find your tests to be extremely useful, and it's interesting how your eco driving tips coincide with what I've always done. With a 1996 Toyota Corolla manual I always wondered how I could get 5.9L/100km in the city without trying. I guess it's because I always shifted into 5th ASAP and mashed the throttle to accelerate slowly under load in high gears with low revs.

Regarding tip #3, from my understanding, for small turbo engines ( 1.0 , 3 cylinders) , is not recommended to go bellow 2k rpm. Please confirm me this. Thank you

With modern engines it's no problem whatsoever, often (e.g. Ford) the small turbos build up their boost from already 1300 rpm. The point is how much power do you want to get out of it at that moment. For simply maintining the speed or accelerating gently of course you can go as low as ca. 1200 rpm, as long as the power is sufficient for you. There is no harm done to the engine.
