"Remove Other Columns" can be used to reorder columns even when you have no column to remove. Say, I have Col1, Col2, Col3. Then I will click, say, Col3, then Col1 and finally Col2 (while pressing Ctrl key) and then right click - choose Remove Other Columns. The result will now be Col3, Col1 and Col2 - reordered nicely. And the M code behind this step is also very interesting. Thanks.

I knew these but cool still great! Click cell first before replace values to get those prefilled data. Multi select columns then change data type, use unpivot only selected and beef up the quick access toolbar!

ooh, I wish I had known #2 earlier! I could have saved so much time by NOT having to (click 'x'), "Are you sure you want to delete this step?...", (click 'delete'), (click 'x'), "Are you sure you want to delete this step?...", (click 'delete'), (click 'x'), "Are you sure you want to delete this step?...", (click 'delete')...

Hi Ruth - Great tips - my best tip is to add a blank query and in the formula bar type =#shared - and you have a list of all the functions/types in Power Query /Erik

The fifth tip, rename columns is a dangerous step which may cause a lot of errors if you want to refresh data source. It should be handle by some more flexible m functions to avoid subsequent steps reference to the wrong column name since it is renamed.

Is there any difference to work with data in powerpivot from access using power query???
@CurbalEN

Power query allows you to clean your data before you analyze it. You can do some cleaning using Dax too, but it is more difficult. /Ruth

@@CurbalEN but if i have data in acces and i will work with power pivot in excel, do you recommend to have a connection with power query to manage the data or just work with the data directly with power pivot
@CurbalEN
6 жыл бұрын
Ahhh! Got you! It is very rare that you don’t need power query to either add data from other sources or to clean it, so I would use power query always. If you realize too late that you need it, it is a mess to fix that! /Ruth
