Supposedly the weights are supposed to be split 50/50 on the inside and outside of the rim to prevent a vibration perpendicular to the vibration you are balancing for. I don't think it is that important so I just put them on the inside so they are hid.

Wouldn’t this also depend on wheel offset?
@carsondaly1521

@@gpf32 it probably would be affected. The target is to keep the wheel center of mass in the middle side to side, so if the center is offset to one side it would also affect weight placement. Also the way the wheel is manufactured it is most likely is balanced to account for the offset depending on the standards of the manufacturer.
@bremCZ

The weights are most efficiently situated as close to either rim flange as possible, but can certainly be placed behind the spokes and still achieve a perfect dynamic balance, with the inside weights being placed as close to the inside flange as possible, if not knocked on.
@Teebee288
2 жыл бұрын
Look on lambo’s , ferrari’s and a lot of supercar and you’ll see wheel weight on the outside face of the wheel. When you have a outside lip on the wheel, sometimes it’s better to balance with the weight on face of the wheel for proper dynamic balance. More the weight are distancing each other less weight you will put on the wheel.

@@tommeiner9983 I know they can be beautiful and fantastic to drive and are loved by their fans. I’ve driven two of them myself and was allowed to drive one of them (a 318) quite hard and it felt great. For me there is no car more beautiful than an 850i coupé. Stunning. If I had lots more money I would buy an 850i. I also love my V8 coupé Toyota but I admit one of the reasons I drive it and not an 850i is because I’m quite poor and so I require rock hard build quality and dependability from my car. I don’t look down on anybody for loving a bmw and I think many BMWs are cool despite my opinion on their build quality. I also know they used to built better than they are now but those older BMWs that rate as the most strongly built and dependable still aren’t on par with a Toyotas build strength and many modern ones can literally break down before they’re ready for their second set of tyres.

The wheel weights need to be placed there to get a true balance of the wheel and tire assembly. You can always balance only one side of the wheel static balance. You also balance the whole assembly with a static balance. Some balancing machine now have something called pro balance that also helps balance without having to put weights on the outside lip.

Of course mine never came with a spare tire from the factory due to space as the car originally were fitted with run flats which to me are very noisy. I spent $400 and bought an oem spare tire for it. I also changed the headlight switch control so I can make use of my rear fog lights which came pre wired with bulbs.
