Sparks on the back of that drill just means it's not a brushless motor. It's brushed, they do spark, and its 100% normal. They all (brushed motors) do it regardless of brand or quality.
@DennisTea
Жыл бұрын
It is normal, but the sparks are caused by carbon dust from the brush arcing out inside the drill. While it is normal, the brushes in drills like that wear out fast and need replaced. You can tell a cheaper brushed drill from a quality one from the amount of sparks inside. A quality brushed drill needs the brush replaced after 60 hours of use and makes less sparks. Brushless drills are cheap enough today that you should get them instead. Just around 1/4 more expensive than a brushed drill. Minimal wear and friction means the battery lasts longer as well.

I used an old and I mean old all aluminum case Thor 1/2" drill in the 1980s while I worked at the Mount Vernon Ohio water treatment plant-I was drilling in steel, and the so-called mechanic head "repaired" the trigger switch. This drill was a monster with a second hand extension handle- I had the part held in the large bench vise and the trigger stuck on the drill - I literally didn't know which was going to break first: my elbows or my shoulders because the drill got me so wound up and just kept growling. Scotty's automotive repair knowledge is impressive and can be very helpful. Regarding other topics, there may be some disagreements. I agree that manufacturers' greed outsourcing to China is short term gain for long term pain, but really we the consumers share the blame - we want low prices. Pretty much everything is now made in China, clothes, major bearing brands, parts and tools of all quality, major brand cell phones - you name it. When I was young, if something was of poor quality and cheap we joked that it was made in Japan, well those times certainly changed. And so with China, you just can't generalize. Brushed vs brushless DC motors has been explained in other comments. Corded vs cordless is another topic, from my experience quality battery powered tools are superior to corded AC powered tools. Generally cordless have more torque, run smoother and have more precise speed control, and ofcourse no cord. I now buy the Ridgid brand because of the lifetime warranty that also covers batteries, that is a really big thing. In my opinion brushed or brushless is no big deal if you have a lifetime warranty, if you wear out the brushes no problem, you're covered. Oh and if you replace your own brushes,you can soak unplated carbon brushes overnight in motor oil before installing, it will be absorbed and they will last much longer.
