I appreciate your disclaimer that just because a trend is not “classy” doesn’t mean it’s trashy. And that you like some of the less “classy” looks! I think some other fashion KZitemrs really look down upon and shame other people’s fashion styles. Fashion doesn’t have to be about looking polished or rich to other people. It’s about what makes you feel happy and confident!

Love this. Always happy to work out as I get to watch you :) only thing I did NOT agree with you in are metallics. I wear my gold lame slip skirt from JCREW anywhere, anytime. But my bright super shiny silver faux leather jeans from Gap, well I always have to “turn them down” with lots of dark and a longer shirt, but I still adore them. Elevated basics 100% for women in my age bracket (I’m 64). Trendy, even if it’s pretty, just doesn’t hit the same once you’re over 60.
@agatastaniak7459
Жыл бұрын
At this age basics should have more lively and less neutral, earthy color palette. That's it. Plus flowar prints should get smaller, more delicate. But designs can still be classical basics if some likes it. Plus good rule of thumb would be - after 60 navy blue or emerald green shall become your black. Otherwise black will underline all imperfections of your complection and silhouette.

My style has always been Quiet Luxury. Several years ago, I started re-using the old term Dressing Quietly, to me that is the essence of good taste. I also prioritize comfort really highly, which is why I hate synthetics (the rayon-family fibers like Tencel are good, they breathe, unlike the plastics). I do love some trends to keep my wardrobe updated, but choose them carefully, they have to fit in with my simple classic style and my color palette. I never liked logos and I can’t afford designer items anyway, but I prioritize quality, especially in fabrics/materials, over any other criterion. I shop in my the upper High Street range for these items, at brands like: Theory, Lily Silk, Equipment, Banana Republic, MM La Fleur, etc. Long ago I purged the all-synthetic items from my wardrobe, and recently I purged almost every item that has a blend of synthetics and other fibers (some are “holding” on a rail until I can find similar items in better fabrics, or I’m sure I won’t regret donating them). It’s hard to go wrong with classic styles in premium fabrics/materials like leather, and in one’s best colors, I think that is a great starting outline for building a better wardrobe. I spend more per item, so have to buy fewer, but everything I buy is a timeless, quality “forever” item. I still wear clothes and accessories from 40 years ago, it’s hard to find that quality nowadays. Note: I just don’t understand the enduring popularity of short denim cutoffs/Daisy Dukes, in this country. They always look trashy and only we Americans wear them, but then, we’re not known for elegant style in this country. The first thing I would do if someone wanted to elevate their style is purge these awful shorts.
@ANNAREID29

Love this! I think as we all deep dive into our own style we often end up at the same place as you have. The more you pay attention to it, the more you want quality over quantity and timeless rather than fads ❤️ However, I will say that denim shorts are my go to for when I think my bottoms might get dirty I.e. doing anything with my toddler in the spring and summer! 😀

Here we have something in common. However I have always liked bold colors but without patterns. Simply plain yet bold colors. Porbably has to do with my skin shade since natural medium olive skin does not look best in too pale or too earthy colors. But aside from this my taste has a lot in common with your taste. And for a good reason. My grannies as nobile class women instilled in me old ways of going about it specific for their own social class, so no wonder. Fast fashion and synthetics or any tendency to mindlessly follow latest short-lived trends was always looked down own by senior female members of my family and a big no-no for which me and my cousins were always told off by all grannies, aunts and even own mothers. What is more we were also taught that good quality clothes can last for long enough to be passed on between generations, even between genders.

That was fun to watch. It always makes me laugh to see the long denim skirts in fashion. I live in an area with a lot of Mennonite families. When the women are in town, often they wear long denim skirts, and they don't look very fashion forward. Also wanted to say, I really love the neckline of the blouse on you. The split- and v-necked line is really flattering and shows off your pretty skin.

Dresses exist in female wardrobe for a reason. Women, not males get pregnant and their body chnages during and after pregnancy and this is what dresses got invented for. So try to learn what type of dresses look best on your current body shape and experiment with them. Instead od leggins I do recommend jeggins and natural fabric leggins- made of linien or lyocell or even silk. Try loose, wide legged trousers mixed with more tight fitting body.

How to make a corset look elegant ... white peasant style blouse with cuffed wrists and stand up mandarin style collar, tucked into a full black maxi skirt, and then wrap a black jacquard Victorian style corset over top. Looks quite stunning with laced up 'granny' shoes or boots and a jaunty black hat. The over all look sorta looks a bit like a full ball gown over a peasant blouse but a little more elevated. I seem to slowly adjust from initially often disliking new trends to starting to like them (or at least not strongly dislike them) the more I see them on other people. But it can often take me so long to adjust, the trend is on its way out by the time I’m ready to start wearing it. Even so I at least like to know whether I’m vaguely on trend or not. It doesn’t really matter much to me until I go to a slightly dressier that usual event and then the trends become more obvious. I live in NZ so its not usually as cutting edge here though - I think we tend to follow the US and are usually a season behind (eg everyone is dressing for spring, while we are heading into everyone’s previous winter).

Hi Anna. Thanks for a great video. You brought out many good questions and answers about dressing and making outfits. I had to comment about denim on denim because I think the type of denim puts people on one side or the other. For example, I tried putting on my denim shirt with my denim pants and I looked like someone in prison. 😅 or I belonged on a ranch. But in some of your examples, the person wore a romantic blouse that was denim material with wide leg bottoms and that changed the whole vibe of the outfit. I think that's why there is a big divide on that look.

A lot of us ‘old folks’ have and we don’t care if it’s trendy or not! Nice straight leg jeans, a tank or cami and a big denim shirt--you can’t go wrong-well, unless you’re going to a dress-up affair. Keep it up; you’re a breath of fresh air!!!!! Disco print? Perhaps, maybe, I’ll see something when I’m shopping that I actually like, example-the last few things you showed, especially the blue cutouts or the or the next one, but I’d have never thought of that before right now as a disco print. SO, answering your question, I suppose it could be classy and elegant IF paired with the right accessories and for the right event.

Some of the disco prints look like Emilio Pucci.

Classics and timeless dressing are what I feel most comfortable wearing. However, I do have SOME more suddle pieces listed in the trendy portion. As you said, they aren't bad, just not typically a classic timeless look. To keep MY wardrobe current, adding a trendy piece does keep me interested in MY own closet. I need nothing. What I want is different. I want to be classy, but I need to be current or I over shop chasing the "today" look. Hopefully, that makes sense. 😊😊😊

I think a lot of the over the top items or trends only ever could have flourished online as influencer outfits, or a runway concept that’s never going to translate well to most people irl. I think sometimes in the US we are also very “hey you do you” and thus people feel like they CAN just wear whatever they like, which…yes they can, but if they expect others to think they look classy or good? Not necessarily.

The printed dresses at the end of the video can be classy, depending who wears them and how they are worn. They really remind me of Pucci designs that were worn by very fabulous ladies. I would say classy enough …

Great video, but I haven’t heard anyone say “classy” in awhile; it actually is used in jest for something that is decidedly NOT “classy”. And instead of “quiet luxury”-which I like-I think the term you mean is “stealth wealth”; it’s everywhere. Just an FYI to us from my two college kids. 🙂❤

Transparent or naked dresses are not classy and elegant… they are fun, but showing your underwear is neither classy or elegant. Have fun with it, absolutely 😂

Great video! I bought a silver pleated maxi skirt. The only thing that looked good with it was silver pointy toe booties. So after struggling with a top or sweater I gave up as it was a one look. If I can’t wear something several ways it’s a struggle for me. So I gave them to a friend who can pull everything off as she is young and gorgeous! Intend to dress more the Row looks with an edgy twist. Hugs xoxo

Well done. The elegants were spot on and the others might be fun be maybe not elegant. Fun.

Not sure but I think I was the first person in rural Texas to get a pair of metallic pants. Lol

White denim skirt. White. Classier! Metallic during the day? Yes! One item, dressed down, tho...so I wouldn't do gold with the white pants, but would do it with blue jeans, and a Birkenstock, or similar. But yes! Why not? Definitely a window on this trend, but always great for evening.
