According to the Vaishnava Bhakti tradition, there are 5 relationships that we can cultivate with God, each in increasing level of intensity, fervour and intimacy. They are:
1. Shanta = Calm reverence and awe for God, as an impersonal concept.
2. Dasya = "God is the Master and I am the servant of God." (i.e Hanuman)
3. Sakhya = "God is my friend, my pal!" (i.e Sridama, Arjuna etc.)
4. Vatshalya = "God is my child!" (i.e Yashoda, the Mother of Krishna)
5. Mathura = "God is my lover!" (i.e Radha)
In this lecture we explore all 5 attitudes and then we attempt to harmonize this Vaishnava view with the Tantrik teleology of creation as Maha Shakti's expression of play, art and creativity.
