I've been riding RideNow TPU tube since Sept last year. Advantages: *much* lighter than butyl tubes, spares take up *much* less space, better ride feel, lower rolling resistance, high contrast colour makes it easy to see if a tube is being pinched. Disadvantages: harder to patch (tiny holes are difficult to see), have to be careful not to over inflate when not in a tire. Some find them more difficult to handle, I find they're just different than butyl and need to handled accordingly. Not more difficult, just different. For me, they're a winner.
@mellis4726
Жыл бұрын
I successfully patched one today using the RideNow kit. It's a bit trickier than patching butyl though. Being less bulky, they're easier to insert in the tire, but you have to be very careful not to punch them. Has anyone inflated one with CO2? I'd be concerned about freeze/rupture. They make such great compact spares that I'm eventually going to try using an inflator myself.
@CarlForde
Жыл бұрын
@@mellis4726 I had trouble patching according to the package directions. I've patched a couple of holes by applying glue around the hole letting it dry for a few seconds then placing the patch on, then putting wood block on it and leaving it for a couple of hours. At home I use a floor pump. When I get a flat on the road I use co2 inflater and inflate in stages to keep the valve and tube from freezing. Works for me.

My first bike computer for recording my rides was a TomTom sports watch back in 2018. The TomTom could connect with HR/Speed/Cadence sensors and via GPS record the route. It had a probleme keeping contact with the cadence sensor so a year later (2019) I bought the iGS50E which was then the second best from iGSport which also worked great. The reason I went for iGSport was because Garmin and the like were to expensive. In 2022 iGSport then brought out the iGS620 which I then bought because of the Navi and as I'm a 71 year old pensioner and time on my hands I can upload a lot of routes to ride.

+1 for the YBN chain recommendation. With counterfeit Shimano/SRAM/KMC chains being so common these days, I switched to YBN because they are a known quantity and don't have counterfeits. Interestingly, I've got more miles out of my YBN's than any other chain brand except Campy. Their SLA models are particularly long wearing.

I've been using TPU tubes for some time and they are fantastic. Their benefit is mainly from rolling resistance however they do make the bike feel more agile and nimble and that's due to weight difference. Given all the titanium/carbon upgrades you can make tpu innertubes shouuld be the first thing to do given cost per gram saved. In on my gravel e-bike I shaved off 240g just by replacing innertubes. And it may be placebo but they seem to take a bit of an edge from road chatter.

I started using those vittoria latex tubes you have, lovely supple ride but by their very nature lose air quite rapidly. I swopped over to the Ridenow tpu tubes, immediate economical reduction in weight and air retention relatively good! I wasn't quite sure what to do with those little rubber rings they provide?? Seal the valve hole on the outside, or to be used on the inside the tyre carcass?? Interesting finds as always. Though since I often right through the night in mixed lighting conditions I find that my Magicshine RN3000 does it really well for me. At 700 lumens, the second level setting I've never run out of battery while out riding. It has a promised runtime of about 11 hours at that mode after all. It has the capability to charge your devices on the go as well in case of an emergency, caveat is though, you need a type c to whatever your device is kind of cable to use it. I had to get a type c to USB-A cable to accommodate all my charging needs. If you don't mind the clutter you can charge it while your phone is on the bike i.g. a quadlock mount for example and literally charge it on the go. For the Cyclocomputer though, my money's on Trimm One Lite still. For just a little bit more than the IGS630 you get a head unit that includes a solar charger and a speed sensor powered by the sun as well, for virtually infinite battery life. It has great mapping features and the route can be edited through the app and has some degree of re-routing as well. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it as well, in case you're interested to get one.

Hey Luke, the one thing that you could put on your "to do list' is a review of pumps, or, pressure gauges to see how accurate they are. Especially when tyre pressures are seemingly becoming more critical to tyre performance. For example as a giggle I bought a track pump from Lidl a few weeks ago, looked good and sturdy, but pressure gauge significantly out! Is Chinese gear any better? Best wishes buddy

Another great vid Luke. The 90's outfit is "Stella!".🥖🥖🥖 Would like to see a full review of the computer?? So how safe is shopping on Ali Express? Is there a risk? As more of us venture over there, due to the Extortionate prices of the western manufactures (Who get all their stuff made by the companies that sell on Ali Express) I think a video on what to look out for, what to do, what not to do might be very helpful? A big congrats on the going full-time I pray you'll never look back. Bless you mate.🥖😉👍

Great video, especially about the inner tubes. I have had two punctures in 3 weeks and one blown tube whilst trying to repair. They look great and with the size could carry two instead of one extra just for safety sake. Brilliant.

Bit late to this party but I've moved to Ridenow tubes on most of my bikes, although I still use latex tubes on a couple of them. Tend to use latex with 320tpi tyres such as Vittoria Paves to get the best "feel" from them. I'm no lightweight or power laden racer but you do notice the difference with a more supple tyre. Can't see the point of using a latex tube with a 60 or 120 tpi tyre, a bit like wearing silk socks and wellies? 🥖🥖😁🥖🥖 . Ridenows seem to ship with patches now, and I bought a bulk pack of 10 for around £4 each. Hope the move to full time going well Luke? Keep them coming, Paul

Please, yes please, show us all the gobbins! Side note, I love my Cx3 (Cheap Chineese Carbon) aero bike, but... I splashed some cash for a litespeed Ti endurance model, which I also love. Yeah i might end up doing a little something on it, but knee pain is SUCH an individual thing. But essentially I had a bit of groin pain on the bike after long rides, along with some knee pain, mostly over the top of the left knee. As i was riding along, i would often have to swing my left leg out to try and almost 'reset' my groin ligaments, but it never really helped, and ultimately it affected my pedal stroke. There are a few easy tests you can do yourself to see if you are suffering with hip impingment, it only take 5 or so mins, so have a quick look round youtube. Another MASSIVE factor for me tho, is stretching/warming up. If i sit around all day, then get on the bike and try to smash out some PB's, it virtually ALWAYS ends with my left knee getting a bit fucked up. So unfortunately with stuff like this, there is rarely one silver bullet remedy, but for me, its a combination of these pedal extenders to help with my hip impingment, and stretching/warming up/warming down after rides. Bit of a long winded answer, but hope that helps!

@@TraceVelo thanks for this reply , its super helpful information , I've been going through similar symptoms, knee plays up after a while on the bike and then a good foot out and stretch around its ok for a while longer and also have achey pains around hip and groin area. @@zwiftinglloyd9666 So since the pedal extenders, i have had exactly zero groin pain or soreness! Bike light looks good but I've had great longevity from my lezyne front and rear lights for less money. I'm using those pu tubes but I've had a couple that have dodgy unsealing valves now. I believe the valves are removable but on trying to remove one it broke the plastic stem. I reckon the valves are glued in.
@aveedub7403
Жыл бұрын
I agree with your analysis, I have a couple that deflate reasonably quickly, looking at valve stems they do look quite fragile, may resort to glue and a tighten up to see if the valves can be locked down a bit! Otherwise the others I have are all fab!!

Im sure its been mentioned but if not re: latex tubes. According to tests, their rolling resistance is great, but the issues I have with them is they leak air between rides way faster than tubeless, standard or tpu tubes. In addition, they have a shelf life as latex will start to deteriorate over time and oils from your hands can accelerate that. Between tpu and latex tubes, I'll go tpu every time.

If you’re not on tubeless definitely give latex a go, especially if you’re running high TPI casing tires. There’s a reason Vittoria has used them in their top end sew-ups for decades.
@mellis4726
Жыл бұрын
The rolling resistance improvement was palpable. Latex + GP5000 is faster than Vittoria's tubulars with latex tubes. Note that Conti tells users not to use latex or lightweight butyl tubes with their tires and wouldn't sell their latex tubed tubulars to the general public, so probably best to avoid long technical descents with rim brakes.

I like latex tubes, although I've been using tubeless for a couple of years now, I last used latex tubes in the summer of 2020, with a pair of 700x23 conti GP4000s tyres, ran them at around 90psi, they were magical. I've been looking at New GPS units to replace my garmin edge 130 which is having battery life issues, and the iGN630 is looking like something I want to try...

1. Olight/magicshine (e.g. 1500 or 800) is a similarly priced light which is a better quality, better looking, better lasting rechargable headlight. 2. Did you know that "rotating mass" concept is an anti scientific myth that was busted a while ago? 3. Do not check out latex, TPU is better. Tubeless - better still. Any recommendation for an action "dash" cam for evidential purposes? I'd like to still have a decent image quality though.
