Don't give them chocolate , avocado ,onions garlic look up to find a safer and healthy diet , vary their diet every week so they don't get bored , make sure they have fresh water the bigger the cage the better, birds are meant to fly and get exercise ,and budgies are better in a group as this is how they live in the wild, if you do get a large cage throw in some grasses ( make sure they are clean and no fertilizers or pesticides ) the love to eat ,chew and make nests with it , spend time with them , and don't rush things let the bird come to you and gain your trust .

Okay well first off never provide the bird with ANY nesting material unless you are breeding avoid mirrors at all cost .. Grapes bread noodles and dairy is a must for being avoided iceburg lettuce !! HOOKBILLS AVOID SAND PAPER / GRAVEL it will kill your bird and harm the feet DO NOT give the birds supplements unless told to by avian vet

Yes my budgie has a very large cage but that really doesn't matter as she is not in it all day long. She has the run of the house and interacts with us daily. But you must realize that you also need to read your birds language as well as they learning yours. If your bird is feeling safe and secure in their world then you will have no problems. However listen to your bird, they can and will tell you if there is a problem. Mine told me through squaking that I forgot to give them their treat seed after supper one night. Boy did I get told off...she flew to my foot and squaked..then flew to the dining room..then back to me in the bedroom, then to the dining room, then back to me. I finally figured out that she was trying to tell me something. Yep..when I followed her the last time she landed on the diningroom table beside the water I leave out for her. She gave me a look that said "what is missing here?" well the treat seed was missing..I forgot to put it out. Got it and put it on the table and she happily started eating it. Hmmm...these birds are so much smarter than anyone gives them credit for. She is taming me, not the other way around...lol

So glad you made this video, ppl need to learn, and budgies are so smart, and they remember too! Some ppl think budgies domt need much time, but they need very much time and patience, like having a dog, exept the budgies need more time when they are single. Who the hell would hit a bird anyway?? They remember if they survive.. Everyone needs to know this. My old budgie Happy flew to me at 17 yrs old and didnt want to leave;little did i know that he was about to die.. out of old age and he was happy as his name, i just didnt know he wanted to die at peace and in my hands. Miss him everyday ❤️❤️ btw he was out of the cage almost all day, but wanted to be on my shoulder 🥰 editrd bevause of spelling errors

My grandson was traumatized when his parakeet found a mouse trap behind the refrigerator. Fortunately, they were able to get the trap off of his little friend in time. There was a lady who told a story about how she accidentally sucked up her bird in the vacuum cleaner when she was cleaning the cage. She said the bird never talked after that. I would suggest never using an open nozzle on your vacuum.

Don't give them onion,chocolate,coffee, avacado,raspberrys,and only give your bird VERY small quantities of parsley. Let him/her have a big cage and clean it everyday,clean and refgill its water everyday and change there food once in two days, and remember that taming them doesn't come quickly it takes months just so they don't fgly around you. I have two budgies and they are my best friends. Hope you have a nice day and thank you for reading my comment even if you haven't have a nice day

Thanks for your tips. We like to let our budgies out for 1-2 hours a day. We have a tall playground on top of their huge cage but they still like to sit on the top of the window molding of our old farmhouse and chew up the paint and wallpaper. I try not to yell at them but I worry the paint might be toxic. I do not know the best way to get them to stay up on their cage. Of course they get to fly around and land back on the cage. I just worry about them eating paint chips. I add more and more toys and tree limbs to the top. Also swings, ladders, bells. But they still want to eat paint and wallpaper even though we give them millet, oatsprays, seed sticks, sprouts, and offer them fruit. Do you have any suggestions. I love them. Thank you. Your videos are great.

This may sound weird but I watched an episode of “My Cat from Hell”. The problem was the cat was destroying the sofa and such by scratching. Before they had their cat declawed (which is a vile practice) they thought they would try a cat trainer. What he did worked perfectly & the scratching was stopped permanently. So what he did was use super wide clear packing tape, rolled up ‘inside out’ ...you know, how you have the sticky side out & the ends taped together. OR if you can find double sticky tape, but it needs to be wide... apply the tape, sticky side out, over and along all the surfaces you don’t want your Budgie’s to be on. After they land on it (either just a few times or several) they will learn it’s not comfortable to land there. After it stops landing there, remove the clear tape and they still should not land on those places. Now, I’ve never done this with any bird and I don’t know if it would work, but I bet it would! Worth a try. BUT, I’d watch closely for the first landing on the tape to make sure it’s not too sticky.... we sure don’t want to catch our birds ‘fly paper’ style, or hurt in any way. Hope this might help... see if other Budgie owners would approve.

on the video you showed budgies eating italian parsley. I am cautious with feeding this to budgies that are then feeding it to their new born or fledglings (3 week olds). I suspect the younger bird can't cope with the parsley in their digestion.

Mine was afraid the first couple of days but now he understands it is just part of the routine. I think what helped was a) doing it in the bathroom, b) first thing in the morning so he has time to dry, and c) letting him fly away when I’m done spraying him. That way he feels less coerced.

Yes it is important to have them in the equal number because if one of them gets left out, they will die from loneliness. I have 10 budgies and they are in pairs. All of them get along. So I will suggest you to get them in pairs and equal number. I hope it helps 😊
@BudgieWorld
5 жыл бұрын
The less budgies you have the more important it is to have them in even number, I usually say the absolute minimum number of budgies that requires an even number is 6, which means 7 and above is fine, because the more budgies you have the less important it is to have them in even number. however this number fluctuates and it is not precise. you could have a very happy 5 budgies with no problems, or 9 budgies and still one of them is left out. so if you are having an even number it important to keep a close eye and see if someone is being left out.

you should feed your bird a pellet based diet. because if you feed them a seed based one, they could become overweight and develop fatty liver disease. pellets are more healthier than seeds, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't feed them seeds. i personally give them 2 seed meals aday. also, you shouldn't just feed your bird pellets. they should have a variety of vegetables for them every single day. you could also add grains like wheat berries and wild rice on top to make it more healthier.

I don't have a budgie yet but am thinking of getting one. I think another mistake a person can make is listening to a petshop staff before doing any research. Because I was so curious and interested, I went to a stop shop. And I spoke to this guy who told me he owned 4 budgies. I feel sorry for those budgies and they must be in a lot pain since this person was recommending that I should get cement perches and a perch made from sand paper or something. I was told at this pet shop that cement is very good for them even though I know it's not natural and from youtube I've seen what cement can do to a budgies feet. I think only wood is the good material for perches, right?
@BudgieWorld
4 жыл бұрын
I prefer to use wood as it is the closest thing to their natural wild life, plus they love to shred it to pieces, anyway, you can use plastic ones so you have a permanent perches than never get eaten. however if you want to have these perches make sure you have another perches and what I like to do is to watch where is there favorite place to perch/sleep (usually it's the highest perch) and make it so it is a wood perch with different texture and size across :)

Here are a few things that will kill your budgies. Paint fumes or glue fumes inside the house, neighbours spraying crops with insecticide if you have outside aviary Self cleaning mode ovens inside home, Cleaning products that produce fumes inside the house, Some examples are Bleach and Oven cleaner , Spray Painting your car outside but the fumes come into house. (got lucky as I took Parrot to Vet to get medicine to clear his air sacs and he recovered. this next one is hard to detect. but it killed a lot of Budgies recently In NSW Australia 2022 . E -Coli in the budgie seed, Mice got into a seed growers silo and the seed was then sold to Budgie Owners. Breeders lost whole aviaries thinking that a disease was the cause. Seen this happen also to a breeder in Hobart where the seed was contaminated with a wild bird virus. They only found this out by ordering an autopsy on one of their deceased Budgies. A give way to this cause is all budgies get sick at same time. Breeding (Hen can get egg bound prevention is better - sunlight, vitamin D and Calcium before breeding ) Lack of Water - if feeding chicks they use more water to feed chicks and more seed also Lack of seed - seed container looks full but is either full of old seed husks or seeds the budgie won't eat. Takes one day without food for budgies to perish. Lack of Food. If budgies is a fledgling they need to be hand feed at least 4 times a day approx every 4 hours if younger they need hand feeding 24/7 every three hours. An empty crop = a dead baby budgie. Bread - has salt in it that is harmful to budgies and parrots. As already mentioned o Parrots and budgies.

As long as you spend time with them when you’re home, they can be very happy. Another Unforgettable mistake is feeding budgies or parrots seed mixes these are things in Millet which make it very high in fat otherwise seed mixes are still not good that is not a very diet they should be on a fresh veggie Sprout nut and some seed diet ( 10 to 15 to 20% of their diet should also be pellets such as Harrison pellets or tops pellets )

Number 2 applies to any bird to be honest. The biggest mistake I see young bird owners make is that they try to tame their bird by chasing them with their hand inside their cage. It's doing the exact opposite of taming, but because the bird gets tired and sits on their finger for a moment, they think it works.
@renskedj

I read that you had to do that, but I had no patience for it, so I just let him fly around and I put a movie from him on my phone and put a plant next to me on the couch. He just came towards me, sat on my head and on a stick I was holding, tasted my finger and picked my phone. He's phone tame now.

Renske de jonge this is honestly a wonderful way to tame your bird. I didn't tame my birds much before I let them out of the cage, I pretty much let them out the first day I got them because they have to get their daily exercise whether they're tame or not. Good job with your bird, he seems to really appreciate your presence, and I'm sure he'll learn to love you soon too. 😊

here a huge mistake that just personally annoyed me when a family member said it to me. "there no point in taking the budgies to a vet since their life span is very short anyway" a well taken care of budgie can live up to anywhere from 4-5 years to even 15 years if u take really good care of it along with it not having any illnesses they where born with
@Rambol_XP
2 жыл бұрын
the story behind it if anyone interested, i noticed my 3 budgies have a crusty beak unlike almost all the budgies i could find on yt, so dug into it & long story short. discovered its a mite problem & the nearest avian vet is in another city. so i just told my grandma i was planning to take my budgies to a vet with my dad, & she basically mentioned that its pointless due to their short life span. & thats basically it, regardless of type of pet it is a hamster goldfish or something long living like a dog, if u notice it have any illness u should still take it to the vet, even if their average life span is a year, & is nothing for u. for the animal this year period is everything & letting it slowly die of an illness is just cruel :v

Good list. I would add the fact that bird respiratory systems are fragile. Smoke of any kind, any sprays or air freshener, deodorant, incense, candles and non stick cookware can all be lethal to your bird. If you have your birds inside you need to research heavily, everything you use to clean or freshen yourself or your home. And don't clean a bird cage with anything other than vinegar and water or f10 or possibly a very mild, grey water safe dish liquid in water before rinsing very well.

Yes. As long as it's safe, and it's pretty much only for sleeping and food, a small cage is okay if it's all you can afford or have space for. Of course, a large cage is still preferable, but based on your schedule, it should be okay

🛑🛑🛑NO TO GRIT ,DONT GIVE IT YO YOUR BUDGIE🛑🛑🛑My budgies cage isn't massive but he is out a lot in the bird room...I got to say,one mistake I made was leaving the grate on the bottom of cage...birds can catch an break their legs on these grates....I always use a cage liners.Also budgies don't need grit !!!!! I got a budgie yesterday June 2021 an Still they are pushing grit. Budgies de-husk(,remove shells)from the seed themselves,grit can be dangerous an has killed budgies,stick in the gizzard an can cause blockages. Grit is a old fashion misconception,years ago it was sandpaper tiny cages,trill ECT....we have come along way since them but grit is being pushed by some pet shops an many don't accept they don't need it so please do your research!!!!,if you don't agree,then go for oyster shell grit,they can digest it.

I like my local pet store. They always mention the healthiest of diets, and they sell different sizes of cage. We only buy the WIDE and BIG cages for the best. The majority of them are just 28 centimeter-ish cages that I ABSOLUTELY HATE. But it’s okay, it’s easy to avoid. Budgies are my favorite birds because they’re amazing!

I will never trust a random clerk again unless they say they actaully have the animal, but even so I will always do research on a new animal im getting

I had got a budgie. No, didn't buy it or got from someone. It was chased by crows before our balcony. We heard the fight between them and immediately rush to our balcony and found it sitting on the further corner of wall (note : our balcony has huge gap upwards so any birds or animal can easily get inside. Crows most easily) So, fearing of its safety my mother caught it and didn't leave it even it was biting her. We have pigeons so we got cages in our house so we put it there. We would free the budgie but we really fear these crows might kill. So we planned of making it pet. We bought food for it and it ate. But problem is that it just sits still. Not doing anything. I talk with it every now and then but it's very quiet. What to do? Should I buy another budgie? What should I do? Help?

I blame the pet store of my 4 budgies death, it was my first time getting birds uhm mostly a surprise for me. The cage was really small, even 1 budgie couldn’t stay fit in there. When I got them they were all like, tied together. Even the perch was plastic! They died because of unknown reasons. I am pretty sure it was because of that one foot disease! I let 2 budgies go free but one got eaten by a cat, ah, what bad memories. After those 4 budgies I begged my parents to give me more budgies they brought me 2 budgies then after a few months a cat broke into our house during nighttime and ate one bird. The other one hid in the house. Oh how happy I was that my mother checked, or the other one would have died. I was crying, well because my dad didn’t want the other bird to be alone, he brought 3 more! And a bigger cage. Still not good enough tho. Now on behalf of my dead birds, I am gonna take care of these 4 as long as I can. Never make the mistakes I made. Always lock your windows and doors. Curse that pet store.
