bending either of the E strings enough for them to fall off the neck, that creates a nifty sound. Try it around the frets 10-12

Tom Morello is a big user of the "strum above the nut" technique. In combination with his Whammy pedal, the sound is ridiculously cool, and definitely an exclamation mark on his riffs.

Erik Feldmann Because they didn’t invent the technique. Megadeth, and various black metal bands all used it before them. They put it to good use though.

On the last one it aslo helps to not have the trem springs in the back muted. Those springs greatly assist in the creation of that sound. I used to use a broken whammy bar on my acoustic guitar to emulate a sort of "Tom Morello DJ unplugged" effect. That and as a slide.

Hey not sure if you going to see this cause it’s an older video but I’m 17 y/o and I can’t get enough of the sound of guitar, so much so that I’m very motivated and driven to learn and master the art. Only problem I have is that my funds situation won’t at least at this point allowed me to get a guitar. Any tips or even person help on what I should do, it would change my world.

Just play man and surround yourself with other musicians even if you suck jam that’s how you learn! If ur highschool has a jazz band or just a normal band join it and learn. Trust me you will have so much fun! I wish you the best!

Dude, that is so uncanny that I woke up to this video today. Just last night, I learnt an old Skid Row solo (I remember you) with this technique in it...(the first one in your video - the right hand mute behind the fretting hand) But it was the one thing I couldn't really work out. I thought, "was he planting a tap??" ...and then, "it just doesn't seem neccesary..." And now, first thing this morning, my stream throws up your explanation. Perfect. Just this though... I don't think I have enough gain dialled in to really need it. Should I still do it?

For the behind the nut pick scrape, you don't need a noise gate. You just need to keep your hands off the fretboard. If they're mute like that, they won't ring with the dirt tone of your amp.

My fav technique (i called it the "george lynch/warren demartini vibrato..) you basically move you finger at fast speed over..what 3 or 4 fret to make a sort of violin type vibrato Usually breaks people minds :)

Haha that one at 6:20 reminds me of rehearsal with a band I used to play in. Every once in a while the drummer enjoyed to annoy our bass player who was standing close (that rehearsal space was tiny) by slapping his strings with a stick as part of a fill. :D We even thought about making that into a live gag but we didn't acutally do it.
