As a pilot I've always used a chronograph watch. The 'whiz wheel' functions are more for calculating speed=ditstance/time calculations etc, however, we do have separate equipment to do this, making it just a bit of a novelty on a watch. It's also nice to have a timing function when making diversions etc. :)

Chronograph! They always make a statement. I am a watchmaker as well as a watch enthusiast. Chronographs always get noticed by watch lovers, and just passersby. They can be very sporty and large, or refined and unobtrusive. But the multi-register dials, and push buttons always stand out from traditional watches which are so overly commonplace especially in the male realm. Business suit, or or wetsuit the chronograph reigns supreme as far as getting noticed and being a conversations starter.

I had some guy from raytheon with his shirt cuff over his watch and it makes it look like your shirt cuff is too long or baggy, I know my rolex can barely fit under a tailored cuff nevermind an invicta, maybe one of those small army watches can pull it off cause it looks small enough to just slide in, ive also seen people put their watches over their dress shirt cuff, it looked so stupid but these are just my opinions.

What about sports watches. These are watches you might wear when exercising. Stop watches, gps etc. Thinking Garmin, Polar and the like. They extend from cheap joggers costing a few tens of bucks, to ABC high end watches costing nearly a thousand.
@TomasLonga

"Watches" with mentioned complications are not really considered as watches (the same as Apple Watch) but computers, or gadgets. And high-end watches are not even starting at the $1K mark. A proper piece that can be marked as "Haute Horlogerie" would set you back US$20-70K.

Good video, but a watch with 100m of water resistance is in no way a dive watch, that water resistance is for going to the pool or the sea with it, but only dive a few meters. If you want to actually dive, you should go with at least 200 to 300m of water resistance, bearing the diver's mark. And if diving is your profession you should go at least to a diver's 1000m.

Antonio: Love your style tips and subscribed! I must point out one issue that kept bothering me, though. At appx. 6:00 you say "dive watches have Tritium illumination". I have ~30 dive watches and only a couple have any Tritium lume as it technically isn't even "Lume" as most watch lovers know it. Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen that is utilized by being trapped in a tiny vial which also contains some type of phosphor(ous). The interaction (or: radioactive emission) causes the phosphorous to lose electrons in the visible spectrum. Our eyes percieve this as a constant "glow". Almost all dive watches use luminous paint on the markers and indices, but not ALL luminous paint has radioactive material; actually VERY FEW actually contain this. Most Tritium glows so faintly that it can only be PERCIEVED AS BRIGHT with dark-adjusted eyes in NEAR TOTAL DARKNESS! Several companies have combined Tritium tubes and Luminova paint to achieve the best of both worlds: a watch that "glows in the dark" and "glows in a naturally lighted room". The latter is what most people expect from a Tritium watch, but such just isn't the case. I own one Tritium watch that is bright enough to see in a room with natural light (no electric lights on, just ambient light naturally coming through windows) during the day, and that watch uses the much rarer "T100" tubes which emit higher radiation levels than the MUCH MORE COMMON "T25" tubes. A Japanese company called Nemoto developed a PAINT called Luminova, that is excited by both visible and UV light, and THAT is what is commonly known as "lume", "luminous", etc... Even the Iconic Rolex SUB stopped using Tritium around 1998. Some enterprising companies have used "lume" AND Tritium tubes to produce a glow that is both initially impressive under certain lighting AND long-lasting. They can be found with a quick web search... BTW; "Super Luminova" refers to a certain spec of the 'Luminova' paint, reserved as a Trade Name by Nemoto. I Love the channel! Totally agree with the style tips on dress watches, especially. Thanks for all the effort that goes into producing your channel. Look forward to each new vid!

Being a pilot, I got a Torgeon aviator watch with an E6B on it (real pilots don't call it anything else). The E6B is a circular version of the old fashioned slide rule used before electronic calculators became prevalent. Student pilots are still required to learn how to use one as part of training. Virtually every calculation in aviation can be somehow done on an E6B. However, the numbers are so small on the one on my watch that I can't read them so it really has just become a cool looking watch. It also has a yellow sweep hand that makes one complete revolution every 24 hours so you can tell what part of the day you are in.

Circular Slide Rules are more important in a general aviation, when you need to quickly determine times, speeds, distances of make unit conversions. Airline pilots almost never use slide rules nowadays, and even general aviation pilots use them mostly only during their training (btw they use specific ones, not the ones on the watch), after which they'll use electronic devices. Slide rules on a watch today is more of a style and legacy thing for pilots.

I'm almost positive they don't use tritium these days anymore. The Japanese use Lumi-brite and the Swiss use Super Lumi-Nova, neither are tritium based due to it's radioactivity.

I hate the rule about watch size to wrist size. I have extremely skinny wrists, and i shatter that rule to pieces with a big giant gold watch.

I own daniel welington watch and I really recommend it because it can be super casual but at the same time really elegant and classy (if u use dw genuine leather strap..). It has minimalistic design so it's even cooler an it goes with anything :)

Dress watch - Patek Calatrava, JLC Reverso (i dont like AP) Complications - Patek Perpetual Calendar, Vacheron Perpetual, JLC thin moonphase, Breguet classique Racing Chrono - Rolex Daytona, Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, Heuer Monaco (not Tag Heuer) Diver - Rolex Deepsea Sea dweller, Omega seamaster, Rolex submariner GMT - Rolex GMT master 2, Rolex Explorer Pilot - IWC, Breguet type XX trans atlantic Field - Panerai Luminor A couple of choices that come to mind, but you do definitely need to have deep pockets...

I like ultra cheapo china quartz watch called SKMEI for less than $10 per piece. I have a few. When the battery dies out, i just throw them away because replacing the battery is more expensive than the watch. Honestly i don't give a f*** what other people think. And I don't give a s*** what watch other people wear. $50 or $10000, I don't give a s***.

Aviator watches when using during war especially when operating airplanes so the people would know exactly the right time to strike. They were sometimes even made with glow-in-the-dark. that's all I know.

So many wrong statements:1) Talking about case material for dress watches "Gold or silver or other precious metals". Name one single dress watch made of silver. There are zero. 2) Band material for dive watches is "rubber or silicon". Yes for cheap watches. All iconic dive watches use steel, titanium or a precious metal - gold, platinum ( NOT silver ). 3) Dive watches typically use "tritium". Sure, if your definition of "typical" means less than 5% of those made. There are other mistakes. In the past I trusted this guy for his advice. After "watch"ing this video, he just lost all credibility.

As a diver I would replace the rubber or silicone strap with a NATO strap. That way if you lose a pin, you don't lose the watch. They get snagged easier than you think and it's saved my watch several times.

My friends, this channel and the website are the Real Deal. The first and only places of all things Men! If you can't find it on either of those two, it's because... It doesn't exist.

I don't mean to be 'that guy' but white tie is the top dress, not black tie. That's second tier when it comes to formal dress.

What color watch strap can I wear with business casual Burgundy Shoes and Belt combo? I don't have a burgundy/oxblood leather strap. I do have a diver with a metal bracelet and dress watch with a dark brown strap (chocolate). Can I get by with the chocolate strap? I cannot find a 21 mm burgundy/oxblood strap without special ordering it.

Very general overview. I have worn a Rolex Blue face Submariner every day for over 15 years.. except for Black Tie, it goes with everything, except hunting, or outdoor adventures. a Luminox is a great watch for that. Two watches by name . Just select the color and style of each and thats it. And the Rolex is worth more used today than what I paid for it new. Good investment.

I would like to ask, why the majority put on their watches on the left hand? What's the deal? I have asked so many but I haven't get a convincing answer... thanks in advance for your reply if you would do so..

Okay, so I just bought a watch online like my last on of 20 years and am not overly happy with it so I'm biting on this teaser video which obviously serves up some very basic stuff in a very professional manner as an infomercial to give away an e-book while obtaining email addresses, but hey, as long as I don't get spammed like crazy (will I?), it'll be okay - as long as the book in interesting. With the new styles being bigger and, in my opinion, ugly as hell - looking like a small wall clock strapped to people's wrists, I think its time to hear some advice on an allegedly professional level - so after all this, a cautious thanks for the vid and e-book. :)
