In terms of covering teammates, I’ve experimented with playing as a sniper, hanging back from the squad and staying covert, then when it all kicks off covering the other 3 with the anti material rifle and laser orbital. Use strats like smoke and emp mortar to cover squad’s exfil from completed objectives, then jump packing the hell out of dodge once enemies start chasing me. So much fun! Recommend if you fancy mixing it up.

Saving a teammate also often saves time, which is often a more important resource. It takes a few seconds to get them back in, but then the thing they were doing is probably still worth doing, so the team needs to secure the area, move in, and do the thing. They also need to grab their weapons and samples back in most cases. Spending 20-30 seconds helping them out can save them 1-2 minutes of recovery time, which adds up over the course of a mission.

If you have all the samples, you owe it to your team to get on that shuttle ASAP, even if it means that someone gets left behind. Using the ping function, I more often than not see a noticeable difference in my team's performance when used efficiently. That you have seen something doesn't automatically mean the rest of the team has seen that same thing, unless you call it out somehow. Figting at distance in a low-vision area, but you got vision of the enemies? Ping them! Your team might not accurately see what they are shooting at, but they CAN shoot at the red marks of the ping! Pinging also helps gauge grenade throws, threat assessment, repositioning, stratagem use, etc.. We've all heard that "knowing is half the battle". So get your teammate into the "here and know".

The one important time for a speed reinforce is if you're running pairs and are on opposite sides of the map, and you expect to also die within a few seconds. In that case getting your partner down quick is important to make sure you don't both have to reinforce on the other pair and endure a mapwide hike to get your samples. The part about friendly fire only proves how many people either don't know real gun safety, arent paying attention to details such as what or whos around them, or don't care if they play as a team. It had me thinking its also an easy way to spot people who have actually used a real fire arm, because if you have and were actually taught the proper safety then you remember how important it is as to why you don't shoot when someone is in front of you. They should always be behind you, or at the very least since its a game, at your side without crossing ahead of you. It also lets you see who has used a real gun or is aware of their team when they know to walk "behind" another team mates line of fire even when they arent shooting. A good team player runs behind your line of fire rather than in front, when possible. I say that because in one part of this video someone literally ran out in front of the persons line of fire, which is only made worse when you realize they were close together and it would've only taken a few extra steps to swurve around. Not only did he risk death but he prevented them from hitting enemy targets. Another tip, when another team member is shooting. When another team member is shooting. If you are going to run in front of them, make sure you either slow or enter their field of view at an angle so they see where you are before you cross their path if you must run in front of them. Their field of view is likely close to the same size as yours, but that does not mean if you can see them, they see you. They will still need time to react due to network latency which isn't much but can be the difference between getting shot or not.

The one problem with marking patrols in order to avoid them is that almost every group of randoms I play with takes that as a signal to engage, no matter if we're already fighting another group or heading to extract. Voice comms sometimes help, but some people just want to fight everything.
@erichthegraham
5 ай бұрын
So, my approach to this is to ping it anyway, then observe my teammates and adjust slightly. I will still ping most things, but once I know my teammates are going to fight every single thing I ping, I will use them to draw aggro and flank. If it was legitimately a stupid fight to take, like we are running low on time/supplies and they aggro a random patrol they could have sneaked past, then I will simply bail and reinforce them if they wipe. This is to be avoided, but thankfully the skill level of the community has been steadily raising for the most part in my experience. Typically my experience has been that people that are obsessed with fighting everything they see make a great distraction, and allow you to approach objectives without having to worry about enemy reinforcements, as the Bot Drops/Bug Breaches go one cooldowns, and then you just have to worry about avoiding patrols.

if your teammate is stuck and is not nearby you please dont come to help them. you will spend a lot of time and probably will be stuck too. the better solution is to let them die, reinforce nearby you and come back to the death spot later when its safe to collect samples (if they had them) and if youre the one who is stuck alone in a hopeless situation just accept your death and dont waste effort and time but most of the time ppl are not stuck, they just pointlessly try to kill em all when they cant or dont really have to do so. tactical retreat is your most valuable option on higher difficulties

Regarding speed reinforcing, sometimes when you're too far to see what's happening there, you might assume the horde there is too much for one person to hold, so reinforcing dead player in your position and then diving together with them might be better idea than waiting for second player to get mauled as well. It all depends on circumstances really

Great video, essential watching IMO. I prefer "Anti-Elite" to "Anti-Large," just a nit pick but I feel it's more descriptive. My additional tip for your next video/readers here: USE YOUR PINGLISH. The game has a fairly robust ping system, in addition to being able to mark things on the map, and marking targets/patrols, you have a slew of communication options that many people rarely use. If you need supplies, there is a ping for that, and if the community gets used to using it, it will reduce lost supplies and improve coordination on resupply drops. You also have wait/follow to help with same, though don't be surprised if people are already committed to an action in their mind, it is a democracy after all. Most important, I can't count the number of times I have been the only one on comms, have asked a clear question, and asked for a simple Yes/No, and gotten no response. Maybe some of those times they didn't speak english and didn't understand me, or had comms turned off (why though?), but regardless a simple yes/no can win games. One more tip - CHECK YOUR TEAMMATES COOLDOWNS: If you open the map, you can see your teammates stratagem CDs. If you are rocking all airstrikes/sentries/emplacements, and you see a teammate has an autocannon off cooldown, go ahead and ask them to drop you one. You might even be able to get an assisted reload in. Actually, that reminds me - ASSISTED RELOAD WHERE POSSIBLE: I need to work on this one more, the crew serve weapons are difficult to use, as you can be easily knocked off an assisted reload by a stray shot/bug jumper. Also terrain/movement can make it difficult to attempt. Generally you want to be in comms if you are going to attempt to do assisted reloads. That said, if you have a duplicate weapon because you asked for one off CD, you might as well attempt to reload your buddy whenever you are in a position to do so. Assisted reloads are essentially instantaneous and make those types of weapons much more powerful. EDIT: @hamishwest7081 thanks for reminding me - LEAVE SAMPLES AT EXTRACTION: If you see samples at extraction, LEAVE THEM ALONE, they are already in the best place possible. If anything, pick them up and immediately drop them in the same spot to add your own samples to the pile. If you are near extraction and it isn't too much trouble, go ahead and drop your samples there if you have any fear at all of losing them. This is especially important on higher difficulties if you are the one with the super samples. EDIT2: Boy, I hope someone reads these. @satanpuncher06 thanks for this - KNOW YOUR TEAM'S POSITIONS: In his comment down there, he mentions to cross behind people instead of in front of them, you are asking to get shot by constantly walking in front of your team. I go a step further and say anytime you are engaging, try to keep one eye on where your friendlies shots are coming from/where they are standing, and think about positioning yourself to give them a clear shot/yourself cover. If you are in an awkward spot in front of your teammates, go crouch/prone, which has the added benefit of improving your accuracy and making you harder to hit for enemies as well as allies.

I run the supply pack, the punisher shotgun, the grenade launcher, and the HMG emplacement, I can fill out some roles that usually aren't filled. The stagger on the punisher can really help out my team if they get surrounded, and the grenade launcher can shred most of the stuff that had them surrounded in the first place, while doing some stagger in the process. If we have gunship issues, the HMG emplacement can deal with them, while also being able to take down all the devastators. It can also take out Hulks

Tldr because this video is about 10 minutes too long: 1. Check and Protect - Look and listen to signs that your teammates need some backup. You might be able to save reinforcements. - Wait to hop into the evac. Make sure everyone can get in safely. 2. Reinforce Smart, Not Fast - Be patient with throwing reinforcements. - Bring people back near their supplies if possible. - Don't reinforce people in the middle of a horde where they may die again. 3. Don't be a Traitor with Friendly Fire - Exactly what it sounds like. Use some situational awareness. 4. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work (the most useful tip) - Consider the roles your equipment is suited for. Adjust your equipment based on what others are bringing - Anti heavy: killing the biggest enemies with the biggest weapons - Anti large: effective against the medium armor enemies - Horde clear: dealing with lots of small enemies - Control: weapons that stun enemies like the punisher or ems strikes - Destruction: taking out objectives from a distance without hell bombs 5. Sharing is Caring - Ping stuff, be smart with resupply, give stims, etc

Best teams have one good scout that farms samples and ambush clears outposts, while the other 3 clear objectives/remaining outposts. The scout is also responsible for stratagem jammers on bot missions-- because sending more than 1 helldiver for a stratjam is actually counterproductive. Scout drops samples at extract/cleans up extract, rendezvous to provide overwatch/anti-heavy. 2 scouts in different directions also works too. The reason you feel like you need your entire team together for a helldive is because your team isn't smart and they attack on sight too often/fail to clear before distress call can get out because of poor planning/situational awareness. You have way too much heat at any given time, and it's your own fault, lol. Had to tell my team to disengage from a growing mob after we completed the mission because they wasted all the reinforcements (I died 0 times) but they were just on autopilot trying to wipe the mob before proceeding. We had like 5 minutes until auto-extract, 0 tickets. Lmao, and they were gonna take on the freshly-dropped tanks and the strider that was getting dropped if I hadn't said something. So I'll add: 1. DON'T start pointless engagements when you can slip by. 2. DON'T bring sentry mortar. 3. Be aware of how much heat you are creating and minimize that at all costs. 4. Don't pick up samples dropped at extract unless you're getting on a drop ship.

Tips I've Discovered: 1) People probably know that reinforcement pods can crush most enemies, BUT it can be hard to see enemies sometimes from that blurry overhead perspective. However, marked enemies WILL show up on the screen when dropping in with the icon being exactly (I believe) where the enemy is, so if you want an ally to squish a Charger or Bile Titan, mark the enemy so that reinforcing people know to land on the red targeter. (For friendly fire reasons, its helpful to communicate this or to always do it so your teammates know what to expect and don't call attack strategems on you) 2) Unlike Helldivers 1, equipment can be requested multiple times. Everyone can carry a heavy weapon and a backpack, so if someone didn't bring one or the other, and you're sure you won't need it for a while, you might consider calling in a duplicate for them. Plus, if you're carrying an Autocannon or Recoilless, giving them a copy of your backpack may entice them to team reload you in moments where you really need it. (That being said, Equipment cooldowns are LONG and Equipment Call Ins are also great to drop on unsuspecting armored enemies, so I understand the hesitation.) 3) You can drop Research Samples from the 'drop equipment' menu (default hold X key on keyboard). If you need to go back into danger, like to go get other dropped samples, go ahead and drop your own at the shuttle or a teammate so you don't lose them too.

Just experienced my first kick at extraction for no reason today after work... i joined their s.o.s. soloed their main objective and just insta logged off. Worst part is i couldnt even view recent players to block them so i dont join again. My faith in democracy died a bit today.

It happens as it could also be that they had someone like one of their friends get d/ced. As yeah it happens so try not to have it get you down too much. There's plenty other Helldivers in need of your assistance so worry not soldier.

Happened to me twice so far. I was extra salty the first time, was doing automaton diff 7 and split from the group. Cleared 1 obj and destroyed 3 base while the main group keep dying across the map. Then the kick happened. I did my best to clear objective and stay alive but the host got salty that he died a lot and I got the slap. Really sad.

A big resupply protocol - always check if it's available when someone dies, since that's a good time for someone to grab more than one because the new diver coming in won't need any.

I had a guy who, when I died, stole my sheild BP. Then, when he died, I took it back before I reinforced him because the cooldown was still 3 mins out. He then immedietly shoots me the second he spawns, because how dare I take my equipment back, and then when another teammate respanes me he doesnt care and rushes me to kill me again. What an A-Hole. So, to add to the video's points, if you borrow someone equipment, give it back when you get to them next.

Great tips. Should be a mandatory video. And this is probably just me, but I say leave people's samples alone unless you're out of reinforcements. I've had people kill me, take my samples, and then die 100 feet from the extract with them while we're being swarmed, unable to recover the stuff I would've had on me if you hadn't decided to run off on your own at some point. Better to split them, so that you all get something at least if only a couple Helldivers survive.

Arc throwers expose F tier players. We have a bloke in our org that always uses the Arc and he constantly team kills. He keeps saying "just wear the 90% reduced arc damage armour" despite us preferring 30% more throw or 2x extra stims/nades... I finally told him this week, "no, you learn to use that weapon or don't use it at all" Arcs are not hard to use, for anyone with at least a double digit IQ.
@erichthegraham

Yeah the arc damage armor is legit the worst in the game, it is only useful for preventing very specific team kills. You could run with tesla tower to allow yourself to stand nearer to it, but honestly that's probably a bad habit either way, so unless that's your strat to aggro enemies into it, the armor is pretty worthless. Only use that if you have a very specific idea in mind, asking your teammates to sacrifice your armor buff so you can shoot them like a jackass is cringe. Especially since I've seen people use the arc thrower in such a way that friendly fire is rarely a concern, it's just a skill issue. Just tell him that if he's gonna use the arc thrower, he needs to learn to only use it on enemies in front of him, and not make wild 90 degree turns with it.

I would add that when splitting, over significant distances, its better to go in pairs rather than leaving one person all alone. In pairs you can recover equipment and samples easier when someone dies, can cover eachother etc. So whenever I see one person run off alone towards an outpost or the like, I try to back them up. Unless it seems suicidal anyway.

I love to use the new airburst launcher. After a few unfortunate teamkills when first using it, i learned how to gauge its trajectory and areo of effect. I have not killed a single teammate with it since. In probably over 300 shots fired with it. This proves that teamkilling is not an issue of weapons being unpredictable or having large areas of effect, it is an issue of sheer stupidity.

My usual indicator to turn around is when I hear the player character panic about stims, reloading or other things. Also i can count on more than one hand when a I get reinforced into a fire tornado. Also I always aim for their stuff when reinforcing, then ping their stuff once they land.

I also can't tell you how many times I've been reinforced into a group of enemies with absolutely no cover whatsoever, and I just die immediately again. Then they'll wait a long time to reinforce me, thinking I'm just a "noob who dies a lot", not even considering that their poor teamwork might be the cause of my deaths.

When it comes to friendly fire, don't just have trigger discipline, also check your own positioning. 'Caus i once had this guy on my team that just runs into my line of fire whilst I'm spraying a hail of bullets at the enemies. I've learned to not stop firing when that happens because when I did hold my fire we both ended up dieing as he just kept standing wherever i aim 24/7. On the bright side, only 39 friendly fire kills in my 170 hours of playing so all in all I'm not doing too bad on that front.

My best experience so far was a squad of 3 on Hell dive difficulty, fighting bots. Without need to talk we implemented overlapping fields of fire and, shoot-retreat-reload-lay coverfire. Pretty effective and resulted in max 2 deaths each during the whole 40 mins.

I have been reinforced into a swarm that also someone had moments later hit with a cluster bomb. So I land, see the enemies, see the short countdown and die again. I also like to break off from the main group and cause chaos around the map (usually from a distance) A small group of enemies calling in reinforcements half way across the map from where the main squad is doing mission objectives has been beneficial with bots. Plus its fun to save someone because you just so happen to be behind the enemy.

BIG DISAGREEMENT with the 2nd tip: it is NOT always the best idea to reinforce a teammate right where they died, since usually they died there for a reason and enemies most likely are there. (I’ve seen it happen to myself and others TOO many times) And then on top of that, I have played with SO many people that will simply leave a mission if they aren’t reinforced “fast” enough. Which leaves you a man down until someone joins and fills the spot. (Which isn’t guaranteed to even happen) I think one of the better tips for reinforcing is that if is if you are in a party where the people have split up into two parties for some reason, if someone in the other party dies somewhere far away on the map then let his teammate call in his reinforcement so they can get back into the battle and get their stuff. If they get reinforced on the other side of the map then that leaves the other HellDiver pretty much screwed on his own. Hence ANOTHER reason to NOT split up and just STICK TOGETHER
@erichthegraham
5 ай бұрын
Splitting up can be viable if you accept that risk. I would say to play it by ear because sometimes having two fire teams makes the game very easy. But yeah, if one fire team wipes that is that, time to push together and only decide to recover your stuff on the other side if you have time. Yeah he probably could have been a bit more clear, but if you are going to drop someone where they died, make sure to clear the area first. If it's dicey, then drop them safely behind you while you attempt to clear it. That way if the two of you start to get overwhelmed, at least you both survived. As for people that are too impatient to look at the screen and see that there isn't a good time/place to reinforce, you are probably better off without them. Yeah it sucks to lose a man and have less firepower/stratagems to work with, but a person that isn't aware enough to see that they have to wait isn't going to offer much and deserves to lose the xp, even waiting for a mission fail screen is better than rage quitting because you died and have to wait to get revived.

I agree with the majority of what you brought up here and playing that style. And I don't think this game needs any audio cues or anything to tell you there's an enemy coming up behind you, that's what your team is for.
