You may want to try a hybrid with co-poly mains and a multi (or gut) in the crosses. The co-poly mains will still help with additional spin generation, and the multi (or gut) crosses will give you a little extra power and soften the overall bed a little - for more touch/feel. Take care. DH

Humble suggestion: reduce redundancy in your presentations. Run through the bullet points first, then go back and add details. I bet you could cut the above vid to three minutes without losing anything. For example, you say the co-poly is popular, then you go on to back that up with four or five different examples. It might have done to say: co-poly is the most popular type of string, used by almost all pros. I enjoy your vids and even bought your stringing DVDs. You know your stuff!

Great information David. I agree 100% with what you have said. The biggest thing I see people do wrong is that they leave the strings in waaaaaaay too long. I'm glad you hit on that issue. People tend to think if they don't break they are still good.

Try dropping about 3kg initially and see how you like it. When I first switched from multis to co-poly, I dropped from 65 pounds to 62. Then over time, I gradually decreased the tension in 1 pound increments until I eventually settled in at 57. To be honest, I could probably still go a pound or two lower and still love how it plays. Good luck and take care. DH

All co-poly strings will generate additional spin for you - since you already possess topspin-producing groundstrokes with fast racquet head speed. My favorite is Luxilon Alu Power Rough. Insane spin. DH

Hello, my 14 year old hits 90% flat from the baseline, loves to volley and slice (backhand & forehand) . My child has a great kick and slice serve, is my child a candidate for poly? Or better off with a hybrid set up? Full bed of multifilament? What strings would you recommend to look at? Thanks in advance

Hey gorvgo - Thanks for the question. Based on your description of your child's style of play, I would definitely say to use a full bed of multifilament. My favorite multi has always been Babolat Xcel (formerly called Xcel Power). If you desire, you could always experiment with a hybrid of multi mains and poly crosses, but whatever you do, stay away from full poly - it just won't suit your child's game. Full poly is best for heavy topspin groundstrokes with fast racquet head speed. I hope this helps. Take care. DH

Nope - Have only tried a full bed of SOLINCO Tour Bite. It makes sense though... Tour Bite (co-poly) mains for spin and control, and Vanquish (multi) crosses for power, touch/feel, and a little softening of the bed. This type of hybrid is very popular. If you want a little more crispness, then a co-poly / syn gut hybrid like Revenge / N.VY would be good to try. Basically, your possibilities are endless when it comes to hybrids - as there are SO many strings out there. DH

Hi, I have great top spin groundstrokes and currently have my Prince oversize racquet strung with head syn gut pps 17g at 27kg. I'm thinking of switching to co-poly to increase the spin. What tension do you suggest? I don't have any arm problems and can generate my own power. Cheers.

Great information David. Problem I have is I play both singles and doubles. For singles, I want the spin but for dubs I want the softness for the volleys. I also find my shoulder acts up if I play with a really stiff poly. I've been playing with a gut/poly hybrid but damn it's expensive and the fraying of the gut strings is really annoying. I'm going to test with a full bed of softer poly and hope it checks all the boxes you listed.

Hey Pete - A couple of thoughts... You could try a multi/poly hybrid to keep the cost (and the fraying) down. There are some excellent high-end multis like Babolat Xcel Power and Tecnifibre X-One BiPhase. I'm not into the stringing game these days, but I believe that many brands, including Luxilon, have developed new, softer poly strings - to help with arm/elbow/shoulder issues. My fear is that in making these strings softer, the spin potential has decreased. With that said, I hope one of these options works for you. Take care. DH

If doing a natural gut hybrid with copoly, does the copoly go dead faster, thus having to restring after 10-12 hitting hours?

Have you tested out the hybrid of solinco tour bite 16 and vanquish 16? If so please tell me your opinion. Also, is a hybrid of babolat revenge and babolat n.by a good idea? (Revenge main 55lbs, n.vy cross 57lbs

Probably could even take it down a couple more pounds and still love the way it plays. Let me clarify... If you're not playing with co-poly strings already, then I suggest at least a 5% drop. If you are already playing with co-poly, then you probably don't need to make an adjustment for Savage.

This is great! I am new to the poly world, so I'm looking for something not super stiff, and something that will not lose tension quickly. I'd like something that has tension loss similar to syn gut. Also, of course, spin is important (the main reason for making the switch the poly of course). Any recommendations?

Hey gumbo - Thanks for the comment. I have been out of the stringing game for the past couple of years, so I'm not up to speed on the latest strings. From what I know, tension maintenance and polys don't go together:) I used to use Lux Alu Power Rough when I played frequently... Great spin but tension maintenance wasn't there. I used to cut them out after about 8-10 hours of singles. You may want to look at Luxilon 4G, 4G Soft, or Element. Take care. DH

Playing twice/week, how often to restring co-poly?
@davidhenry8789
7 жыл бұрын
When I was playing regularly, I used to restring my sticks with ALU Power Rough after about 8 to 10 hours of singles play. I probably re-strung a little more frequently than needed, but since I had my own stringing machine, it was easy and cost-effective. As a rule of thumb... Once you notice the string is playing differently... Less crispness, less control, it's definitely time to cut 'em out. Hope this helps. Take care. DH

At what point should they intervene in racquet technology? Serve and volley has become useless due to racquet technology and other factors. In baseball you need to keep on using wooden bats. In tennis there seem to be no regulations. The racquet sizes have also become insane over the years.

I can probably say "ok" two to three times per second, on a good day. Therefore, in two minutes, I'd fall a little short of 30,000,000,000, but thanks for the comment:) Take care, Larry.

I've never gone down to anywhere below 25kg but I will give it a try. I used to demo a friend's racquet strung with rpm blast at 26kg and i was quite disappointed because i did not play very well with that set up. Any recommendation on spin-friendly strings?

co-poly's are a fallacy . poly is poly. luxilon element is STILL a poly. i would suggest you look at tennis menace's website. you have an awful lot to learn for a guy making videos. it seems like most of what you know comes from the back of string packages.

No... I would not continue to hit with that string - or with any monofilament co-poly string. I would switch to a softer string like a multi or gut in order to be easier on your elbow. Depending on how bad your elbow is bothering you, you could use a hybrid of multi (or gut) and co-poly - assuming you like the way co-poly plays. But... If your elbow really bothers you, you should definitely stay away from poly. Take care. DH

Wilson NXT is a soft multifilament that is certainly good for tennis elbow. The best string for tennis elbow is natural gut, but most quality guts are not less than $18. Babolat Xcel Power and Tecnifibre X-One BiPhase are two of my favorite multis that could be helpful with tennis elbow. Xcel is probably a little more than $18 a set. X-One is probably a little less. You could also check out Wilson Shock Shield or Hollow Core. Take care. DH

No worries, my friend. I answer all of my comments. :) Yes.. I recommend stringing it at least 3 pounds (about 5%) lower. Then... You may have to experiment a bit to find the perfect tension for your game. To give you some perspective... Before I switched to a full bed of co-poly, I was using high-end multis at 65 lbs. When I switched to Lux, I decreased the tension to 62 initially. Then from there I gradually decreased it in 1 pound increments until I eventually settled in at 57. I...

Not sure I agree, Alberto. If a player doesn't have the right type of strokes for co-poly, wants a lot of power, wants a lot of touch/feel, or has arm trouble, then I can save them the time and trouble... Because co-poly strings are not for them. Sure... They can still try, but I'm not sure they'll like it. My $0.02. Take care. DH

The terms are synonymous. Co-poly is the more accurate term. Poly is the more common term. Federer uses poly co-poly crosses (Luxilon Alu Power Rough), not mains. His mains are Wilson Natural Gut. I'm guessing he likes the power and touch/feel he gets from the gut mains but wants to temper the power of gut with co-poly crosses. Take care. DH

Hey Jadon - That is a tough question to answer... I find that the larger, bigger brands tend to invest more money in research and development (and sometimes raw materials) in order to produce higher quality strings. Often, it is a situation of "you get what you pay for". So... Yes, I think the top brands like Babolat and others are worth the extra money. With that said, there are definitely high quality strings from smaller, less known brands that cost less. Genesis Typhoon is an example.
