Thank you Eleanor. The section on asking questions really hit me, as I remember a test I completed where I replicated something from the material they gave me, and it was wrong! definitely something I should have queried rather than taking at face value. If anything similar happens in the future, do you recommend contacting the recruitment team with the question before submission (if there’s time), or asking it alongside submission, explaining why you chose the solution you did?

This is a great question! If there is something that doesn't make sense in the instructions so you're not sure how to do the test, I would advise you to ask. Much better to check than waste time overthinking or risk getting it wrong. Remember, the people who write tests are likely to be very busy so might make mistakes! However, if you spot an error or inconsistency within the test content (e.g. typos in the drug or disease name, data in the text doesn't match a figure, or inconsistent use of US/UK English etc), I would advise adding a comment to your test response. This comment should flag what you've spotted and, if possible, suggest a potential solution to the problem. This is a key part of the Medical Writer role, so it's good to demonstrate how you would approach it in a test.

Thank you Eleanor. I enjoyed the video. I will like to ask about creating slides as parts of writing tests...how creative should one be?

Thanks for the feedback, Temitope, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! And this is a great question. Slides are such a core part of medical writing work. We should always try to make slides visual and break text up so it is easily digestible, but the balance of visuals vs text should be guided by: 1. Our audience (What level of detail do they need? What do they want to get out of the slides?) 2. The way the slides will be used (Will they be presented or will the audience read them?) A writing test brief should give you clues about these factors even if it's not stated explicitly. If there are no instructions about audience or usage, you could decide how you want to frame them and then include a note with your submission so the person marking your test can understand your thinking.

@@medcommsmentor Thank you for your reply. I have encountered writing tests that request just one or two slides and others, multiple. Determining the amount of 'important' information that should go in is usually a challenge. Could you discuss this for your next topic?

Thanks for the suggestion, Temitope! I'll definitely be looking at this in future videos. But as a quick tip, considering the objective of your project and the audience it is aimed at,should help you focus in on what counts as really important information vs details you don't need to include.

Can we use AI to write this test
@medcommsmentor
10 ай бұрын
If the brief for the test says you can, then yes. But most won't - they want to see your writing skills! It's a *writing* test, not a prompt engineering test. I think AI will increasingly become part of medical writing, but this will be very tightly controlled. The information we work with in MedComms is usually highly confidential so we won't be able to use open AI tools for writing. However, AI can be useful for things like background research or to give examples of different types of writing to help you get started.
