Well, the exchange office thing isn't technically a scam. It's just a very unfavorable offer. When you go to a shop, no matter if it's for a food, jacket, gold ring, watch, toilet cleaner, dildo, book...anything, you always check the price before you pay. Why not doing the same when buying a foreign currency? What's wrong with saying: "I have €100, how many Czech Korunas would I get from you?" They couldn't lie because like I said, it's not really a scam but just a terrible deal. They'd tell you exactly how much you'd get for your €100 and then it'd be entirely up to you to either walk away or accept the terrible offer. It's exactly as if there was a restaurant that charged €30 for a pint of beer and you went in, drunk a few and then cried over the bill. Someone who is charging crazy money for something isn't a scammer but a person you want to avoid and never do business with.
@krishacz

@@boutek whats the difference between that and a scam tho
@MrAla6
3 жыл бұрын
@@boutek I am getting your point but: It's scam in Czech Republic because there is law in place protecting exchange office customers. They are breaking this law. Problem with exchange is there is no obvious price. People in general are bad in some mathematical operations. Someone is better, someone is worse but general pattern is "adding" and "subtracting" is easy(ier) but "division" and "multiplication" is pain for the most people. That is exactly problem with exchange rate. Then next aspect is social. The most people refuse admit they are bad in these operations and nod to anybody who type number into calculator and show it to them. I have simple experiment. Pick few products in shop in different packaging (avoid simple sizes like 0.5kg, 1kg but pick some 600g, 725g, 950g etc.) and then stop random people and ask them what is best price/value. This is your reference how these scams works.
@MarvinCZ
3 жыл бұрын
@@boutek The scam there was that they did post an exchange rate - but it was not in fact the actual exchange rate, it was just meant to mislead the customers. The actual exchange rate was more out of sight. That is also why this chain of exchange offices kept getting fines and why it eventually lost its license.

I lived in Prague for a big chunk of my life. I appreciate what you are doing. I can't believe some people fall for these scams. I must say that the Czech police is fantastic but they need a little help from the public in situations like these. I was once scammed by a taxi driver when my family was visiting. I was sitting in the front and filmed him bumping up the price in the meter the whole ride (a very common practice in Prague, unfortunately). I also took a picture of his information and license. When he left I called his company and explained everything. He had to return 10 mins later, give me the money back and apologise. I hope he learnt his lesson.

is it really so unbelievable? one woman said she couldn't read the sign. many of the victims are tourists and immigrants. this combined with the city's lack of information outreach on how their systems work are being exploited by scammers. also czech police are frequently displayed on this channel refusing to act, he even described the gangs as "untouchable by police" in another video. even if they were the best police in the world, police are still police, unreliable if not straight up dangerous.

always keep in your mind and I'm talking through my experience over 7 years with many scammers even I tried to make many of them to sympathy with me but the result is zero to make it more simple all scammers have 0% mercy and 100% heartless exactly like the one who said we destroyed the whole family so if you meet any scammer never forgive you better smash their face if you have the opportunity

Hey, Ive been living in Prague for almost 5 years now. I went to pick up a friend at Florenc station and right next to the entrance of the metro, there are two of these exchange places. So, I went to one of them with my friend that needed some Czech crowns. When we arrived, I saw two boards with a bunch of numbers and I did not know what the exchange rate was (I think they put up these boards on purpose to get you confused) I asked him "what is the rate that is applying today to buy crowns?" to which the guy replied, "What kind of fu%$ question is that?" I was so upset and I didnt know what I had done wrong and I was upset this is the first impression my friend who I picked up was having in her visit to Prague... So, I remembered a few nice Czech words and told him "Do Pic#, ty #$raku" hahaha and we both left.

@@frostsson Some of the signatures on the paperwork for the Ukrainian guy with no passport who never traveled abroad were very clearly fake (multiple wildly different signatures). That was probably a case of identity theft. But your point still stands, signing paperwork you don't understand is one sure way to get into trouble.

I've seen 20+ of your videos. I have never visited your country and while I appreciate what you do to uncover these scams and expose them it is more than enough for me to remove Prague from my family's vacation itinerary indefinitely. This was the video that did it for me.

i mean the situation is not great , but i wonder how Prague would compare to other cities in Europe . And me as a Czech personaly would never recommend Prague to a person preparing to visit Czech Republic. Countryside has so much to offer when it comes to culture at specific dates of year , and i think the approach of people will be different in a kind way becose they are not used at tourists you have many smaller cities without crowds and scams also filled with achritectual treasures , or nature treasures like Adršpach and Czech Switzerland and thing is Czech Republic is small country and everything is in driving distance of few hours and well connected with public transport too . but it all depends what you want , what holiday you want. please don't judge whole country by all those bad people shown in his videos , you can see it only becose good people are working on it

@@BoboMsubscribe On the one hand, you're right, Prague looks good without tourists. But you only think about yourself, imagine how many businesses will close without tourists? How many people have already lost their jobs because of this and how many more will become unemployed? And also, think about the fact that the Czechs do not spend a lot of money, but foreigners in the Czech Republic spend a lot, and this brings money to the Czechs, can you imagine that?

@@BoboMsubscribe Umm, I know you're probably a kid, but you really need to read something about the advantages of tourism. We need to take care of these scammers and not discourage tourists from coming to our city. That would make no sense at all.
