When taking Physics in college, we were learning the concept of Momentum (P). I used the scene in Tomb Raider where the knife was stuck in air due to time being stopped as reference. It takes Lara much effort to turns the knife around. So momentum is like the tendency of object going foward. When the time stopped the object is not moving, but you need to apply much force to make it stop or even turn it around. The more the mass the more the momentum (tendency).

It’s insane how much liberty was taken with Lara’s story, past, and appearance yet still was a definitive adaptation for the 2000’s! Glad Angelina spoke up on black, they still captured Lara’s style without the signature top and shorts or colors, and arguably brought Lara into the contemporary era.

In my opinion, this is the most watchable video game movie. It's wonderfully cheesey and the stunt work is actually pretty great. Angelina doing her own stunts was really awesome of her. I don't like that this was the beginning of Lara's daddy issues that would become a staple of the series afterwards, but I do like this version of Lara who doesn't kill people or endangered species. It was definitely done for a lower age rating and thus getting more ticket sales, but still. THis is probably the most true to source material depiction of a video game character to film, and I can't compliment Jolie's cool performance of Lara enough.

I remember going to see this film in theatres. I had mild sunburn and had reached the "itchy all over" stage the day I was supposed to go with my aunt and cousin. She told me over the phone to take a warm shower to see if that helped. It helped immensely and we went to go see this without me scratching all over. My aunt passed away in 2012, and seeing this in theatres with her and her son remains one of my favorite memories of hers. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Oh, and you forgot to mention that Lara's shower scene was inspired by the urban legend that stated if you beat the whole game without dying that you would see a special end scene where Lara is showering, notices the camera watching her, then shooting the camera. Lol

This movie feels much younger than it is, it's already over 20 years old and still holds up as the definitive Tomb Raider movie, well before the Legacy trilogy was in development! Angelina Jolie was made for this role, I'm so glad she took it, she was born to play Lara Croft, just right after Gone In 60 Seconds!

This film is one of my absolute favourites. Not a guilty pleasure favourite, but a genuine let me sit down and talk to you for 20 minutes about how Angelina Jolie was born to play Lara Croft favourite. It gets overlooked constantly and given a bad name for some of the acting (Daniel Craig is English, why couldn’t he just be English and not American) but it’s so up there with good game adapted movies. It’s camp, it’s action packed, it’s got references through the roof, it’s classic Lara in person at her best.

OH MY GOSH! I LOVE this movie! I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid and it was one of the movies I’d watch when I was sick to make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I still think all the Tomb Raider movies are some of the best video game adaptations and don’t deserve the hate they get; granted I haven’t seen Cradle of Life in forever, but I still enjoyed all the movies and think they’re all pretty solid movies. I love all of the actresses that turned down the role when only maybe ONE of them (Denise Richards) was even CLOSE to fitting the bill to look like classic Lara. 😂 Such a guilty-pleasure series for me. Jolie embodied Lara in a way that I don’t know anybody could ever touch again. Shame they didn’t do as well as they could have but I still enjoy them to this day (the first more than the second but I’m a glutton for punishment. 😂)

How about this; Toby Gard made a conscious decision to make Lara British and the main villain American, to subvert the popular trope of action films where the hero is always american and the villain is British or otherwise European. He resisted studio pressure to make her American as they thought that'd have been more profitable. In the film they had her played by an American actress and made the villain British :D
@haganeelric98

Also, something interesting I don't know how many people realized: Angelina Jolie is an American actress who plays an English character, while Daniel Craig does just the opposite. So they both had to exchange their accents.

This and the 2nd movie are some of my favourite movies of all time even tho I'm bad at the actual old core games (not angel of darkness cus that game is easy) As a kid I would watch random levels mostly at the late or very end game like the torso boss, the final TR2 level and with help of coop with my friend I saw the ending of TR4. Recent years I went back to these old games and I appreciate their gameplay controls alot more than modern TR games where in modern TR n adventure games platforming is very janky or so scripted where the game SPELLS IT OUT where to jump which takes away alot of the fun charm of exploring or there are times animations or collission is janky. But in old TR the collission is very consistently good and I prefer it's old control style over the later crystal dynamic games that I once used to keep on completing.
