Definitely start with Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion. It has a wonderful learn-as-you-play tutorial that has you learn and add things as you play through the first 3-5 scenarios. You can also play solo by playing for two characters at once, though it’s really fun with other people. I guarantee you’d either have a lot of fun with the first few scenarios or else you will at least know exactly how much Gloomhaven is for you (“just those first scenarios,” “I’ll finish out the campaign and be done,” or “gotta move on to the OG and Frosthaven”).

That's what I'm planning on, but I am a glutton for complete collections so I can't imagine not getting Frosthaven at some point in the future! It's really high on my wishlist ;)

For Outer Rim, see if you can grab the expansion if it's not too expensive. It adds a lot of variety, and fixes some minor problems the base had (like traveling across the map quickly). It also fills in the card numbers and easily fits in the base box. Edit: And in my opinion if doesn't add much more complexity. I teach and play the expansion as part of the base game because it's only a few more rules.

If your husband likes Star Wars, may I suggest Star Wars The Deckbuilding Game. It's 2 player only and has some interesting mechanics. Several cards have bonuses that will trigger if "The Force" is on your side and of course there's cards that manipulate "The Force". Also you can target your opponents cards in the galaxy row in order to keep them from acquiring them. Outer Rim is a fine game with contracts, a little battling, and pick up & deliver. It's very thematic but if he's not into the hobby as much as you, he may very well enjoy the deckbuilding game.

Terraforming Mars, 7 Wonders, The Search for Planet X, are the only games in this haul that I have, SFPX I recently got thanks to one of your previous videos! I didn't even know Northgard had a board game, I have the steam game of it and really enjoyed it. Those are some awesome looking games, I don't have any big box games mainly due to current budget but I do have 10 of the Dominion expansions so if they had one big box I'd have a lot. These videos are so fun, I love seeing what games you have in your collection, it helps give me ideas for games to add to mine!

So maybe you should pack up and come on down for a visit! Your sister and I would definitely be into some kind of a marathon (which you know would be a bit of a logistical nightmare). Your grandma will be here for a week and since she has a broken foot she would be a captive audience. I could invite some of the older homeschool kids around to come play too. We could split up the work. 🤣#workonthatshelfofshame

Ohh, I'm getting excited by those big boxes! :D Also a lot of overlap games with my own collection in this one so I don't feel like calling out all of them. But a couple things I'd like to say: Gloomhaven really isn't a D&D-like dungeoncrawling RPG (although you certainly can add a little make-believe especially when deciding what to do for the event cards if you want but totally optional) but rather a tactical semi-coop Euro-style hand management game with a really really well-designed gameplay loop in the scenarios. Sure, it looks like a dungeoncrawler by theme but this isn't Mage Knight, Descent or Nemesis. Learning OG Gloomhaven from scratch was an absolute bear, not going to lie; plus it took my group like three years of on-and-off play to get through the entire campaign ...but that's hardly the game's fault. It was an amazing experience and I loved how different all of the classes played. I totally wish that Jaws of the Lion had existed at the time because the player onboarding is seriously buttery smooth. The first four scenarios or so are tutorials and the Learn to Play book adds mechanics bit by bit, ramping up the complexity slowly. Just give it a go and you'll see quickly whether it is for you or not. And if it isn't then that's completely fine too, and let no one tell you differently! Another thing I think you should just give a go is Castle Panix. It's really light complexity-wise, quick to teach and to get going, plays fast and is a ton of fun with players of all ages. It's one of my go-to games to bring when visiting people who are amenable to board gaming but rather casual.

You gotta play Just One, that's one of the best party games out there and I'm not a fan of party games. Love that it's essentially co-op. But even better as a party game is PRIORITIES. I love the mechanic it uses for a co-op party game and how you can lose it.

Keep up the great content, love these videos! Edit: Play Outer Rim with the expansion! The base game is very mediocre but the expansion turns it into an incredible game, so if you plan on introducing the hubby to it, play with the expansion so it becomes an actual good game!

I don't have any sort of gaming group, but I wish I did. My husband likes games, just not as much as I do. Most of the time if I'm playing or learning a new game it's with my mom or sister when they have the ability to come see us.

Wow what a great video and collection. Also don't feel bad I am attracted to games with crystals in them too. I have bought a couple for just that reason. Also I Castles of Burgundy Deluxe Edition and Deluxe Edition of Everdell have me jealous and drooling. They are the very top of my list. May take some of my Christmas gift money and buy one of them. also thank you for kind response in the live stream that Foster the Meeple did the other night playing Wroth.
