For me: avoid blind bloodlust. Sometimes, it's better to let someone get away with 1 hp while also surviving yourself, instead of chasing around a corner into a 1v3 or a shotgun. Rotate, reposition, retake the fight from an advantage of some form; don't be baited. Great content Shadow!

Something that has helped me personally and that I’ve since passed along to friends is to HAVE CONFIDENCE and a GROWTH MINDSET in PvP. Most players go in very nervous or already thinking “I suck at PvP so why bother?” If you go in with a fixed mindset, meaning you are stuck thinking you suck, you will most likely (definitely) suck. But if you tell yourself, “I can do this. I got this. I can win.” etc. you will see yourself quickly improving. After all, MOOD AFFECTS EVERYTHING.

I'm somewhere in the upper tier of console players based on DTR and whatnot, and 40/60 rule is burned into my mind when I go into fights after hearing about it here. I thought I was already good at the game, but just actively remembering 40/60 has helped me take it to the next level and I'm so happy.

Yeah, that 40/60 thing is super helpful. Against average players, it helps you avoid damage (and being killed entirely). Even against good players, they usually have an answer to it, but it helps you by causing them to expend their abilities anyway.. if you're going to die, at least make them spend an ability to kill you, instead of them only spending some unlimited primary ammo. Plus, if you're expecting it, you can often bait out an ability and still survive. Sometimes if you're lucky, it'll cause the opponents to have to reposition and hopefully overextend in an attempt to get a better angle on you. Having a goal to (almost always) keep one of your shoulders hidden during gunfights makes you automatically more survivable, that video really helped.

I'm a long time destiny player, even played tournaments at a time, and the one tip that helped me was abusing the radar. In my opinion, the radar is a tool you can be abusing to make your opponents play worse and make bad decisions. Some examples of this: 1. Moving slightly closer to an opponent to move radar "zones" (entering the center/pie slices of the radar). This can make them think you're pushing them, or just much closer than you were originally 2. Getting a teammate to "flash" themselves on a radar in a different direction to distract my opponent, even for a split second, so i can make the play to follow up it. Side note, something interrupting the radar (flashbangs, gemini jester) can really assist you in a lot of situations, especially in modes like trails where it's very important. Good luck out there :)

Watching good players play the game is low key a big part of my improvement. Watching guys like shadow and Benny have definitely helped me weed out some of my weaker points of play like how to use a shotgun effectively. I like seeing those who go over their perks and masterwork cause you can get a better idea of what certain guns really need to be effective. Also, it’s just a game, don’t let a few bad experiences get you down and continue to try to improve. Even if you lose, you win if you learn.

the flawed match making doesn’t help along with the overly bombastic space magic being better than other overly bombastic space magic, the removal of freelance and the middle finger to the solo player. you win a few games after being set with decently coordinated teams, you yourself don’t contribute nearly as much to your victories (because you aren’t as skilled) but the game is convinced you did so then the fun and learning abruptly ends when you’re pitted against the pvp no life’s who are just looking for easy wins and kd farms bare in mind who are wildly beyond your skill, even better… seemingly every game they’re all put on the same team. then after losing more than a handful of games in a row due to the flawed matchmaking’s incompetence you’re put back in to lobbies you belong in of which you’re able to learn with challenge that accommodates to your gradually climbing skill as opposed to being thrown in the bottomless shark infested waters just for getting lucky with teams for the cycle to then repeat… that’s essentially the destiny 2 pvp experience for the average/regular player which happens to be the large populous OF pvp, so fun right? all this to say there’s a fine line between learning from better players and getting mowed over by them with nothing in your favour resulting in having learned nothing (defeating the whole point of playing pvp depending on your reasons for playing) and no fun in the process. that’s why destiny pvp peaked before destiny 2 had even launched and i stand by that

My one tip would be don't be afraid to run to teammates if you're getting rushed. Getting one kill isn't worth your life if you have the opportunity to escape. Some of the things Ive learned over the years, are as follows: having a single shotcaller in an intense game can completely change the outcome of a match especially when losing: 2 when your screen or view seems level, if your peaking the same level ground your crosshair will be at head hight, 3 sometimes playing super aggressive with a team, can cause enough chaos to throw off even the best of opponents: Learn grenade hotspots, find a place everyone always goes, throw it there, if you have enough distance between yourself and the person chasing you, once fully recovered flip around and re-engage rather than letting them mow you down

Helps to warm up that muscle memory and you can focus on the type of shots you want to make and which weapons feel best to you. Yeah, meta is meta, yada yada, but using a weapon you’re super comfortable with makes the experience better overall IMO

This really helped me survive way longer and gives you an exact time to run away. One thing I learned from a video I watched a while ago and really works: focus on what you want to get better at, for example I realized I need to be better at slide shooting (with HC not shotty) and teabag shooting, so even if I wasn't doing these things well & often led to my death because I wasn't good at it, I was making it a habit so that I would naturally be more slippery without forcing myself to think about it.

So I'm not colorblind, but I struggled to see the radar in my peripherals because it's that darker red color; especially on maps with heavy red light like altar of flame for example, so you can turn on color blind settings to switch it to specific color blindness type that make the radar a bright yellow instead of that red. Helped me immensely with radar detection without actually looking at the radar. It will change the backgrounds of some items but the important stuff like purples and exotics still show as normal.

I've watched this video 3 times in the past year. It's helped tremendously and I get something new each time. My biggest takeaways, surviving is way better than risking the death over and over for the kill. I don't rush anymore and take a patient pace. My second tied with the above is committing to whatever action I decided to do. Just commit to the lane, the one enemy I'm shooting, and specifically my loadout that I feel good with. I know my weaknesses so I play with what I'm good at at the moment.

Complimenting your weapons of choice with your abilities. Weapons come first as they are (well should be, they aren't always) the dominate force in a crucible match. Whether that is pairing the ability to a weapon, or using the ability to cover for a weapons weakness. If you aren't using abilities in tandem with your weapons you are sorely missing out. My personal favorite for awhile not is cryogrenades, osmiumancy gloves, and fighting lion. Getting a kill without ever having seen your opponant face to face is both powerful and incredibly satisfying.

@Emrakool

I think one tip that has helped me the most other than the 40/60 rule is a movement related one. That being, when you move, ask yourself why. Why am I leaving this location, is there a better position of advantage that I am going towards. Do I need to change angle for the enemy's new spawn. Are my team across the map from me and any second there will be 4 enemy's near by. This is super important, as a lot of the time you hear to have good movement and change locations, but you end up just running around the map and never stopping even when you have a great vantage point.

I didn't think to move my body and not my aim. Wow. Gonna try that. Something that has helped me as a warlock is having 100 resilience and high recovery. Intellect is rad and all, but being able to have more time and take more damage when I can't react fast enough or evaluate a situation has really saved me. Warlocks are slower to begin with, so even when I'm on my A game and my fingers aren't getting all tangled up and having seizures, it still takes a while to maneuver myself out of a situation. But High Res + Karnstein to get melee health back (I often get into slap fights), has helped me with health regen and not dying.

The NUMBER 1 tip that matters most: Build a very good gaming rig and move to an area/ISP where the destiny 2 pvp netcode will treat you better. No matter how good you are if you are playing even half a second behind someone they will win. Spent about four months working away from home and brought my KD up over 3 as a solo. Now back home and having tried three different ISPs from two different residences the KD has leveled to a meager 1.1. Which is still alot better than when I was playing on onboard graphics. The truth is you can't really know how good some one is until they sit down at a proper LAN based tournament. This is true of any networked game. Having said all that; I feel like everyone pretty much follows these tips and they are a good idea. I see the pvp clips on youtube VS what the looks like for me makes it seem like two totally different games. I'll probably keep playing though.. even with repeatedly dropping dead seemingly for no reason to have someone pop out a couple seconds later and shoot at me. The tips can't hurt though. EDIT: BTW something help is to pick peak times for your region/country and time zone. You will find much less wonky games with less overly stupid lag.

As well I recommend in a trials match if their use to your play style and it’s not getting u anywhere “as a hunter “ switch those stompies out for a bakers and zoom straight in it’s a great way to catch their team off guard

An Important tip he had missed is while crouched, your icon on radar pulses and can be great at certain situations. Aside from that, really helpful tips and try as much I don't know and don't do already. Thank you.

best warmup for me go to the EDZ trostland when the cabal and fallen are fighting in the right corner of the map at spawn. enemies are everywhere and its a chaotic environment. i go there and only use my handcannon no abilities at all. i will say though if you go there and they arent there just wait for the cabal to spawn in. its very easy to take them out at first then the fallen arrive and very quickly overwhelm you. thats just my warmup though but my help others. i enjoyed the video subscribed

Hey, I’m a Titan who loves the crucible. I’ve heard certain KZitemrs talk about diminishing returns on stats being too high in certain places. What exactly should I be aiming for stat wise, and what exactly are they talking about?

Like there are days when I suddenly start hitting every shot, getting ridiculous killstreaks (for me) and then some days I forget how a 140 hand cannon works and try to run directly into an enemy in trials, miss a shotgun shot, and start spinning around looking for them while 3 submachine guns turn me to shredded guardian.

Main thing I learnt was, I stopped trying to challenge sniper lanes with my scout rifles. Also using my glacier grenade as a fake In sniping lanes so I can flank hard scoping snipers

So I know this may be dumb.. but I got a 12 button mouse for a large majority of my Key binds in destiny. And tbh it's honestly helped me a lot. It's basically the same theory as not taking your thumbs off the sticks on your controller.

As a seasoned pvp player, I think my best tip to people is to play slow. Don't chase after someone you get weak. Disengage and take the next fight. Tip #2 is to pick a special weapon you're good with and learn how to abuse it. This is almost exclusively for trials, but I essentially consider special weapons to be power weapons because when used effectively, they are one-shot kills. Sidenote- in the video, Shadow mentioned how pc players make fun of controller players. This is inaccurate because on pc, controller players get more aim assist than m&k, which makes sniping a whole lot easier. Tip #3 is to learn your primary. This is a super challenging topic to elaborate on because everyone has different preferences and each primary has its own strengths. However, since they are the most popular, I'll talk about hand cannons. hcs are amazing for medium range engagements, but drop off in ease of use for close range, and are just ineffective at long range. Pair something like a dire promise or fatebringer with a shotgun like felwinters lie or found verdict and you're set for 85-90% of your engagements. And to address people who think I'm talking about shotgun apes, what I mean by this is that every fight you take you should open with your primary. If you see, either on your radar or in front of you, that your opponent is closing distance, pull out your shotgun for a one-pump. I could go on, but this is probably enough of an essay to put in a comment section. Thanks to whoever reads this!

One thing I personally think is important is getting a weapon that feels right to you. Like I don't use 750 smgs because I just dont like them, theres no point in using the most meta weapons if you can't hit anything with them. But still, try to at least get used to a few weapons to cover all ranges. Also #31 is important, used to do that alot, could never get used to using anything.

The biggest thing that helped my PVP gameplay (for comp game types) is that surviving is much more important than killing for a few reasons. First, if you rush in for a gametype that has revives like trials or showdown and only get 1 kill then the other team is more than likely going to revive their fallen teammate and then you are at a tactical disadvantage. For gametypes like survival, the same mindset of prioritizing kills over surviving is what can make your teams life counter dwindle really fast. I'd rather have a person on my team go 6 and 2 then 18 and 17. The higher KD ratios throughout the team, the more likely you are to win especially as a solo player in PVP content. I would say that's obvious but the amount of guardians I see go full steam ahead in competitive PVP is too high to quantify.

A tip or use for when I am aiming bad is try not worry about it. I’ve noticed that the more you worry about your aim, how you hold your controller or mouse just makes me play worse instead of just playing the game

1:25 I'm a new player and the map looks very nice, though I can't comment how competitive viable it is, I've personally had fun on it but that doesn't mean it's a good map.

I find lost sectors or doing a lfg in shadow's discord for a private match an easy way to warm up, and maybe, if you get the right player(s), you can maybe even learn other tips, tricks, and other things that shadow hasn't pointed out yet. anyway, great content and i've increased my KD since the first video of this series from 0.75 to somewhere between 4.20 and 8.0. sometimes, on a great day, i can even get 10.0+. keep up the great work!

The thing that helped me the most was just taking a 2-6 day break every now and then. Your brain will go over everything you learned when you sleep. Since you have taken a break your head is clear (or mostly) of biases so you can re-evaluate your past plays without just going “its because that loadout is OP” or “Bungie needs to nerf that ability” or “that was just a lucky play/glitch” and instead see what they did and what you did, think how to counter them in the future and how to prevent the same mistake you made in the future.
