Might have missed out one interesting fact. The 2020-2021 Formula E season saw all 25 drivers score at least one point. It is quite impressive how many seasons it took to have all the drivers score at least one point.

Tbh, I'm not a fan of that exclusivity deal... If you're serious about electrifying motorsports, why prevent others from doing it too? And why do so until 2039!? By that year the majority of existing motorized vehicles and the entirety of new motorized vehicles MUST be zero or low emissions. Otherwise the world has seriously messed up!
@wongyewxuan3880
2 жыл бұрын
because there is no point, nor is it possible to electrify other series on conventional road tracks, be it F1, WEC, DTM, WRC, etc, unless they use FE style tracks that are made for braking regen. Batteries are simply not energetically dense enough to be used for any 'circuit' track
@kooooons
2 жыл бұрын
@@wongyewxuan3880 Again: If that is true anyway, then why do you need a contract for it? Also, do you realize, that the Year 2039 is 17 Years in the future? Look back 17 Years (one year prior to the presentation of the Tesla roadster) and compare it with current EV-Tech. The only commercially available EV I know from that time had a top speed of 55mph, a range of 75 miles, rechargable in 4 hours. The EQS does 300 miles quick and comfortably and charges back to 80% in 30 minutes. Then take into account that *serious* EV development hasn't startet until 10 Years ago. All in All I'm convinced that the tech is developing quick enough to be fit for GP Racing in ten Years not 20 and it could be a great proving ground for new Battery tech. Oh, and by the way: DTM is in fact switching to electric in 2023.
@wongyewxuan3880
2 жыл бұрын
@@kooooons bro i suggest you read up on battery chemistries. unless the world has a revolutionary breakthrough in stable battery chemistries that are 30x more energy dense than what we have today, all electric racing on traditional circuits will not be a thing. DTM is going for 30 min sprint races. not a full length f1 race the exclusivity contract is so that you wont have 2 different series trying to develop the exact same thing; its more efficient to combine the guys into 1 category for development.
@wongyewxuan3880

@@kooooons the gen 3 FE car could probably run the full monaco circuit, and maybe singapore without S2. but those will be the only 2 tracks that will be remotely possible. Traditional circuits just require too much throttle

@@wongyewxuan3880 "Read up on battery chemistries"? What do you think how simple of a topic that might be to ask a stranger to just "read up"? The people working on these often spend the better part of their professional lifes reading up on these! As long as you're not one of them I highly doubt that you are in a position to judge if these Breakthroughs will or will not happen. I don't believe i can I just know there are some of these people out there that seem to believe it will happen. Look at it like this: The gen 2 car has 92% more capacity at just 18% more weight. Gen 3 will have 27% less weight at basically the same capacity. Thats a 2.6 fold increase in energy density in less then 10 years with probably a fraction of the budget, that each F1 Team has. There are a handful of concepts that might or might not be realized in cars and that hold the potential for your suggested breakthroughs and even without these alternative concepts some experts are still talking about doubling energy density in near future. And your argument about focussing development on just one series rather than multiple also doesn't work for me - for one because if that was true, it wouldn't make sense to have more than one series for ICE-Cars to begin with and also because - amongst other reasons - more people independently working on the same thing makes the parallel realization of different concepts possible and therefore pushes innovation. In other words: I understand your statement as: Because FE is not capable of doing big GP races right now we should keep the budget and personnel for R&D low. I think that's not a good thing and should not be pointed out with pride like done in the video.

#17, "Between season 2 and season 3, Formula E cars' energy regeneration efficiency saw a massive 50% improvement. Thanks to a major battery tech upgrade." Currently batteries are heavy, they have the risk of combusting when damaged, they have a low energy density, etc, etc. I think Formula E offers special opportunities for battery development. I can imagine it to be a logistical challenge and it may result in a bigger gap between teams, but if it results in amazing battery innovations then it could be worth it. (I'm aware I'm not an expert at all and I may be missing a lot of important knowledge. So if it's not feasible, then it's not feasible. I just see batteries as one of the major parts that hold back EV adoption. So if Formula E can help its development then it would be amazing)
@pants7241
2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, this sport could advance humanity immensely with battery innovation potential. Currently (and for a long time) a lot of cutting edge battery technology was first introduced and tested on the RC car community due to the ease of adoption and small production numbers required to get data, much easier with smaller but very high performance machines, a very vocal community, and extremely wide range of environments and use cases within RC. The batteries and motors we see start hitting the consumer goods markets (power tools/appliances/etc) 5-10 years after they are introduced to RC. It’s a great thing to be a part of and I hope the best for Formula E
