thanks bro. i have been scouring the internet looking for someone who could give me even a tiny clue on what to do about my drive spindle slowing down ... and you are the only one that delivered! my copicat is now working like new, and i owe it all to you. i have a great story about how i bought this copicat from a nice fella in London and carried it through the airports and on the plane by hand all the way back to California. but i'll tell that one another time ... thanks again!

Looks like a '73-'75 Mk IV model. No wings on knobs and black buttons instead of more common white buttons. It's odd though because you do have all metal can BC108, and BC109 transistors used up until early 70's anyway. My two units have plastic case BC108, and BC109 transistors. I bought my first one from a neighbor who actually prompted me with it for $40 back when I was 16 in 1982. He knew I played guitar and built every effect in Craig Anderton's book '27 Electronic Projects For Musicians'. I swept the floors twice a week at my dad's work and they gave every part I needed and let me use their circuit board etching setup. Back then you had to use layout tape, donut pads, and IC pads on clear Mylar over top Craig's layout in the book. I'd photocopy the layouts from the book and tape it down on a light table. I made all except the chromatic tone tuner, the tiny low low output amp. I did make the clear tubing to big horn driver 'talk box' What's wild was I had the exact same iirc Altec horn driver as in the book! Speaking of horn drivers, I recently bought two brand new (always available iirc...it's been 2yrs ago) GMI PRO D-100 Drivers 2195 watt horn drivers for $17ea. I use them to drive my WURLITZER BRASS HORNS for my '58 Conn Classic-815 theater organ (well I use it for theater playing).

That additional record head might have been used to create flanging effects. I'd have tried it out.

I did have a little go - I think the extra head was a definite problem, probably loading the circuit up a bit too much, but to be fair the motor was running irregularly too at that point so it sounded very poor in any event. I guess whoever added that head had something in mind

Bought my Copicat new in 1971.... Some minor servicing since.... Needs new tension spring which just broke for the First time ever.!!! Otherwise STILL going strong !!! Done countless gigs.... never let me down...... Got all relevant pedals BUT they STILL don't quite give me THAT. !!!!! Cost £40 back in 1971.....Best thing I've ever had.... And that includes the ex wife.!!!!! Best wishes from Plymouth UK.!!!

Interesting video , you seem to have gotten there in the end ! my copicat is distorting .

I think if you've got new tape loop fitted and it still distorts, it's most likely the capacitors, well unless the distortion is speed related then maybe the motor needs a strip, clean and bearing relubed, like mine did

Can you still get the tapes ?
@hydorah
Жыл бұрын
You can, yes! They are only loops of quarter inch tape so they wouldn't be too hard to make up if you couldn't find them for sale. They also last for ages
