Premium cars. The purchase price is only the down payment. The real cost is the thousands per year on normal maintenance if nothing big breaks.
@seashackf1
Жыл бұрын
There is no “normal maintenance” that costs thousands per year, even on an RS5, which is a very different beast than an a5 . It has some parts that are much better and therefore more expensive like ceramic brakes. The cars are also driven much harder, even still these brakes last 50k+ miles. Shocks 70k+. Only thing that needs to be done every year is an oil change. Everything else is same as any other car, replacing worn or broken parts, fluids at their interval, etc. if you fail to maintain the car or abuse it then things will break just like on any car, but it will be much more expensive.

@@seashackf1 anything 6 cylinders or less is generally reliable The V8s, V12s, W12s are where you’ll get some big failures And you can always get OE parts instead of OEM for less or aftermarket if you’re being cheap
@seashackf1
Жыл бұрын
@@dylan-nguyen I agree about v12’s, etc but little else. There are plenty of very reliable V8’s like trucks, corvettes, crown Vic’s, etc. There are plenty of unreliable 6’s. Johnnys business here is based on them like the N54. American 4 and 6’s also aren’t known for their reliability. OE or aftermarket aren’t always about being cheap. You can get as good or better parts. Quality parts sellers like FCPEuro and ECS Tuning sell OE, OEM and aftermarket and they point out when they are the same. Some OE parts are the exact same part just with part company branding instead the OEM logo. Huge part of aftermarket is about upgrading to better parts, many times for cheaper. Koni, Bilstein shocks, Brembo, Stop Tech, Zimmerman,etc rotors either are OEM or are better and cheaper. Same with Hawk and EBC brake pads. It’s true with batteries and many other parts. OEM is always expensive, but not always the best quality part. I will take any of the aftermarket brands mentioned over OEM on these cars every single time. You just have to learn which are the good parts and what aren’t or have a trusted mechanic that does.

That doesn’t say much for the car unfortunately. Shame, but GM destroyed a once good brand. I’m not a fan of the 9-3/9-5 cars. The last good Saab’s were the 900 & 9000’s before GM. Once GM bought them in the 90’s quality immediately went down. They even replaced the great Saab engine with a piece of junk GM v6 engine in the 9000CD. It was bad.

Correct about the 9000 shared platform, but everything else was designed by Saab, except for the ‘95+ GM engine. @@seashackf1 Yes, forgot that previous models weren't hyphenated. My point is that even though they weren't as sturdy and timeless, the 9-3 and 9-5 OG are still differently build machines, especially with B20~ engines with turbo making stupid power figures. I know few examples with 500k km(300k + miles) and they're still comfortable and powerful, even though they're product of GM.

@@JeremiBulakowski Saab better than Volvo’s pre GM. After GM/Saab and Ford bought Volvo that completely flipped. To the point Volvo make good cars today and Saab….☹️. The fact that Saab is gone speaks volumes of how much GM ruined them. The whole reason for the demise was the quality of the cars. They were once a step below the Germans, After GM they dropped down to just GM Europe cars. People were used to Saabs being better than Opels not the same.
