Great dyno video parents built a 499 4.15 stroke motor with a 590. Lift solid cam and rpm heads m1 and a 950 holley well over 12 years ago. Ran 11.50s best of 11.45 in street trim was a great motor lots of torque. Today i would of went with the trickflow powerport 240 for an engine like this you would of picked up 50hp with those heads with a full cnc port with a bigger 2.19 valve for the same price as the rpm heads. We kept those same rpm heads and built a 499 lowdeck with 13.1 compression extensive porting and 2.19 valve and made 705hp but the small port volume of those rpm heads really starts to show when sonic choke happens quickly on a big cube motor. If you go with a 3.55 gear it should run 11.80s with ease and still cruise the highway decently haha look forward too seeing a video of the car in action!

Watch this kzitem.info/news/bejne/omqnt22Fh1-HmGk At about the 1:00 minute mark I show the cam card, this was a custom grind that Jim had Comp make, He asked me how much power I wanted to make and I said anywhere between 500 to 600 would be plenty, I wanted it to be streetable, but also told him I would be losing the vacuum brakes, this is a solid roller cam, looks like 593 on the lift 252 intake 254 exhaust at .050 It calls for .018 lash, but Jim set it at .014 and you'd never know it was a solid roller, rocker arms are 1.5 Harland Sharps pushrods are Comp. get the heavy wall tube,

A few questions for you, mister, if I may: @7:10 - What did the smiley face on the white board do for performance - more of a horsepower thing? More miles per smile thing? Where do you install the dozer blade? Will that conflict with the deep purple (non-factory of course) block option? It doesn't sound diesely enough. HA. Must be a fuel thang!

question I bought a 73 duster last year it has a 360 stroked and bored .30 or .40 I have no idea what size cam but I want to upgrade the cylinder heads to aluminum it has cast now the car runs mid 11s in the quarter mile it does have a very healthy cam any suggestions on what heads to go with? intake is a air gap rpm I want to pull some more power out of the engine with better flowing heads but without knowing the exact stroke and cam size wonder what's the best way to decide or best way to go
@Jpaydirt
7 жыл бұрын
Well when you pop off your heads you will be able to determine bore and stroke, then you can also check your cam by either degreeing and checking lift, or by checking for a mfg. # or by removing it completely, your going to have to determine if you have a hydraulic flat tappet, solid roller or hyd. roller, you said it has a "healthy cam" so I am assuming it has a lot of duration, do you want it "streetable" and what kind of brakes, vacuum? gotta be carefull if they are vacuum boosted brakes, to much duration and bye bye vacuum, also compression is going to play a big part, Here is my suggestion, I talked to Jim Laroy (A mopar wiz) he asked me what I wanted and I said it needs to be able to drive on the street and I would be happy with anything between 500 to 600 HP so he had Comp Cams do a custom grind of his own design, then he file fit the rings, ported the Edelbrock heads ( just a good clean up and contour) then a multi angle valve job, and I don't mean just three, more like 10 then checked the manifold for proper fit to the heads and milled where necessary, Then I assembled everything. so I would talk to Jim, or someone who knows Mopar, I got a lot of advice from Jim but I would always send him $100 for his time and knowledge after speaking with him over the phone or thru email people like him are an very valuable resource and a little $ grease will get you some good advice and a very timely response to any question, I am not qualified to advise you on specs so I would talk to someone who can, If you would like Jim's # I can send that to you.

Jpaydirt absolutely I'd like his number but I think you may have already gave me the answer I was looking for I thought I could just get some advice slap a set of heads on and gain some extra hp well sounds like I need to take to a shop and have them inspect motor get numbers and advise where to go to meet my goal witch is around 500 to 600 like you said I was told I'm at 450 but never dyno yet and I do know it's flat tappet cam manual breaks / power steering the engine is very very strong and runs perfect so maybe I shouldn't mess with it right now 11.30 was best time at track and that is good for street I just wanted aluminum heads to take it up another notch I was told engine was done a year ago and from what I can see looks good and the way it runs I believe him but yes I'd like jims number so in the future maybe he can help me achieve what I want or advise me to just leave for now I use the car for street mostly and track for fun thanks for the advise I definitely need a pro to check degree of cam lift and all that I can do head swaps but my knowledge of race engines is not good enough to try this on my own thanks again for the advise and help

I have a 1978 440 RV block and thinking about going with the 505 stroker kit, I haven’t done to much research but I want a great reliable street car in the end that sounds fantastic and runs on 93, the kit obviously comes with all forged components and don’t see why not, my stock cast crank should be replaced anyways and at that it’s only around $500 more to go stroker rather then stock 446, I’ve done some research the only thing I’m concerned about is will the factory block hold up to 500+ HP, I’ll probably go with a more street-able CR of max 10.5-1 with 84 or 88cc aluminum heads. I want a ball busting reliable Big Block basically on the cheap. I mean I’ll have around $5,500-$6,500 in this and should be very nice. Your video gave me inspiration on this matter. It brings the stroke from 3.750 to 4.250 and keeps the same bore as a .030 440. Basically I just don’t want to waste my time and it have no power or just wasting my money. At this point I Don’t even have the car yet, imma gonna build the engine first and go from there, also I’m running a 727 trans! Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Steve’
@Jpaydirt

Steve, the first thing you wil have to do is have the cylinder walls sonic tested for thickness, that will determine if you can go over stock HP, don't get discouraged by this, just be prepared to go thru a few blocks until you find one that is good

I guessed 590 to 600+ at 6700 rpm. I forgot that the 4.15 arm doesn't like spinning. You may want to get a 3.55 gear. With a 28 inch tall drag radial you will have anything you could want from the car. You are going to have to spend some money on a torque converter. Any 727 can handle anything, they don't break. They just wear out. Eventually. Also, this is NOT a criticism but your oil pressure fix could be as simple as buying a new pump and installing it OUT OF THE BOX. I am assuming that your oil is metal free and you cut open and inspected the break in oil filter? Looking forward to future videos, MoPar to ya'!!!

For my car engines over the years, I've always started them, run for 30 seconds to a minute, shut them down and checked the oil stick and added to the maximum mark. It always reassured me that the oil volume was at best level. On cool down, the stick always showed "over full" but i was satisfied.

@@Torquemonster440 Yes, the piston pins wouldn't go into the rod bushings so I had to have them honed to the correct size, and the wrist pins needed a good polishing, it did come balanced . you can't buy anything "outta the box and bolt on power" it seems. I had low oil pressure problems and took apart the pump and found a damaged relief valve,, don't ever bolt a new oil pump on before disassembling it and cleaning it and polishing out the loose cast boogers in the passages

Don't know, my question is, why does it drop as you load it, has good pressure at high rpms but under load at even higher rpms it drops, I will try shims,
@2boredfortv
8 жыл бұрын
That was what threw me off; not the slightly low idle pressure but the decreasing pressure under load around the top end. We can only think of 3 culprits off the top of our heads: 1. Excessive rod and main bearing clearances (unlikely for a fresh rebuild but possible). 2. Oil cavitation: I can't recall if you put a windage tray in it. 3. Lifter bores. This is my best guess. The bores are not always what they are suppose to be and need to be checked thoroughly with a bore gauge and matched with the lifters. Funny, now that I think about it my friend had a Dodge 318 with abnormally large lifters from the factory. Good luck, I hope you get it healthy and into that car soon!
@Jpaydirt
8 жыл бұрын
I read from a gentleman that if you use a HV pump with a stock pan it will suck it dry every time, we did add oil and that helped, yes I did use a windage tray, I did wonder about the lifter bores, but why does it start to drop under load? and higher rpms,
