Plenty of older lifters can't lift much raw because there joints are shit. Raw lifting isn't a true test of strength because muscles don't lift weights. Fast twitch fibers generate speed and the CNS handles resistance. A person would need 500lbs of reverse band tension pulling up to do what people think a bench shirt does.
@hondro7430

@@jameshoffman3614 You said muscles don’t lift weights and then described how the cns uses them to lift weights. Just cuz people develop bad joints doesn’t mean the definition of strength changes. The technique, structure of the lifter, and quality of the shirt determine how much you can bench equipped, which is why you see a 500 pound bencher taking a wr. There are plenty of waaaay stronger benchers than him. And no, you don’t need a suit that adds 500 pounds to your lift in order to “support” your joints. Despite appearing similar equiped, raw, juiced, natty anything are completely different things. Compare conventional/sumo DL, equipped/not equipped DL, juiced/not juiced DL. Juiced to the gills Konstantinovs doing a beltless conventional 426 kilos DL is the best strength feat you can see on the net. But without the steroids, filtering his blood, and self bleeding practices he would be at the level of a 1960's deadlift record. In the early 1970's Doug Hepburn said that if we remove the chemicals the actual records are stuck in the early 60's when it was all natural. That is true to this day. Today there is a long list of equipment plus specialized moves that is so rampant that 99% of the athletes that set records can't work an 8 hour hard physical job to save their life. One day I talked to a guy that was literally wider than he was tall. Asked about DL's he said "Oh no! No way! Too much recovery time needed after DLs...".

People keep metioning how 500 pounds is so impressive at his age; yes, true, but can we not ignore the fact that a shirt adds over 500 pounds to his bench? Is that not enough to end the sport of equipped lifting? He has a wr in a sport where the shirt does over half the work for him. There are many way stonger benchers than him who don’t have a wr, because contrary to painfully ignorant opinion, being able to lift more than someone with a shirt doesn’t mean a you have a “different kind” of strength and are stronger in your own way, it means your bench suit works better with you body and technique, yes the bench suit is the determining factor, what a complete joke of a sport, literally pisses me off.

What's impressive to me about equipped lifting is if you put someone like Julius Maddox in a bench shirt more than likely he would not be able to set a world record in equipped lifting, but with this guy he can do double his raw, and trust me there is nothing easy about EquIpped lifting its still heavy as hell.

Hoping equipped benching will fade into obscurity and Raw is seen as the record that really matters.

Definitely has an elbow issue which makes sense why there is a large gap between the equip to raw ratio. Still strong af.

I feel like slingshots and elbow wraps on bench press make it so that the weak link can actually be your grip. I've lost my grip on deadlift before, but never felt like I was straining to hold the weight on bench press. Granted, I'm moving raw numbers in LBS what this guy moves in KG's. Still, I've seen a lot of equipped benchers drop the weight on themselves, far more so than raw benchers.

Given that he didn’t get 250 in that clip by a country mile his equipped is well over double. A lot of respect for hitting near 250kg at his age, but I think this shows what a joke equipped bench is (more so than other lifts).

How was that a 250 kg bench press when he wasn't even close to pushing it back up without help from the spotter. He lit pushed it an inch from where the spotter left off... Lol I get he's old but still it's not even a close legit bench..

I'm a raw bencher, I have a dislike for geared lifting mainly because in my fed us raw lifters have to go up against these guys in comp for highest bench trophy/award. I came 2nd last meet with a 202.5kg raw bench! The winner pressed 260kg in multiply shirt. His lift was questionable at best! Couldn't even get it near the rack I.e start position at end of the lift! The spotters had to deadlift it into the rack! This left a bitter taste in my mouth as I trained so hard for the win only to have it stolen by a weaker lifter! Judges tried saying they deduct 10% off the geared lifter to make it fair on raw lifters. How is 10% fair 🤔 this guy struggled with 140kg raw in warmup room 🤣 anyway that's why I dislike geared lifting.

Firstly, don't take me wrong, 250kg is a big number, I wouldn't be able to lift it, but the guy holds a record in pointless Equipped and he couldn't even lockout 250kg at Raw, which is not that impressive nowadays on his level, skill and his body weight, that's just hilarious.

Lol same, i bench 315 for reps without any equipment. It sickens me when ppl tell me they can get bench over 400+ but failed to mention that it was with a bench shirt. You might as well as get a crane to lift it for you.

Probably has so much shit built up in his elbows from the stress that 500kg puts on your joints, that he can't fully extend under pressure.

I think, cuz he is an older lifter, make sense the increase in weight w/ shirt being more dramatic. Age its a big factor in raw BP, cuz of joint health and possible past injuries; maybe the age factor doesnt play that much in equip BP, making the difference betwen the numbers bigger.

If I’m not thinking wrong, am I the only one that notices that powerlifters lift a bit less at the competition than the gym? If so, what makes it harder for them to lift at the competition that they can’t lift as much as they lift at the gym?
@Liftinglinguist

Lifts like this are why more and more people are questioning equipped lifting overall, there's really no call for it besides putting up higher numbers. When I trained with powerlifters, they claimed that the equipment was there to prevent injury, all I'm seeing is more injuries due to the artificially high loads they're able to put their bodies through. This example is ridiculous for sure, I also know IPF lifters who add 30-35% to their squat max with equipment. I hope equipped lifting goes away, or at the very least becomes the less dominant form of PL.
