We used an Indy max wedge intake. This was one of the first TF 270 builds when the heads first came out. I used the Wilson 2” spacer. This was a simple flat tappet cam. .650/.650. Guys are getting really good numbers with these heads. I’d like to swap my eddelcrap heads on my nostalgic S/S R/T. To a set of TFs. Would bump my compression up and get me well over my current 613 hp. But it’s running 10s on pump gas right now.

I built one (team) around 71 at Chrysler engineering. We were looking for a 440 replacement that with emmisons would still make power. Ours had a welded crank to fit 400 rods. We built it with existing stock parts. I remember saying it sound like a herd of Harleys went it ran down Chrysler drive. It sounded great but we didn't do any development work on it, so we didn't get numbers. Went on to a 444 cid ball stud semi hemi.

Bob Man I didn’t build this engine. Pretty sure the static compression came to 12.5:1, the quench plus the custom spec cam helps bleed off compression. Dynamic compression is probably closer to 11.5:1. I have access to 93 octane in my neighborhood. But he says it will be fine. Built this with hopes of entering Drag Week. The engine was built by an old school drag racer Gary Hedden of Magnum Superchargers. He’s in his 70’s and has built 3 of these, the original had Indy SR heads (689hp)and is in his Duster, the second was with Victors and dual quads (722hp). Hey I have a few questions if you dont mind. Is that a stock block? If the block is stock what did you do to it to make it stronger? Are you running steel main caps or aluminum? What compression are you running? Do you think going to a Holley 950cfm or Dominator would get you some more horsepower?
@BigfootsnMopars
6 жыл бұрын
Bazooka Joe started with a fresh 512 out of a Mud Truck that had Stealth heads, Tunnel Ram and roller cam, gear drive. Probably only made 500-550 due to head Flow restrictions. Ditched everything except new Stroker assembly. It’s a steel main caps with ARP studs. With the TF 270s compression is around 12.5. Yes that’s high, but subtract one point compression for aluminum heads and then figure in the cam specs it’s more like 11-11.5 compression. Will be running 93 octane when cruising. (Dyno was using 91) we built this to be a simple solid lifter double roller chain carbureted engine. Was not setting out looking for 700+. Was hoping for 600... last minute went with the 270s over the 240s and a bigger cam. Might make more but will be staying below 6100 rpm for now. Once car is done hope to build a stronger block. Will only see the track a couple of times.

Get Stage VI heads for it. They go 350cfm unported at ~ .575-.625" lift and if using a low deck block then an RB intake bolts right on. I'd also go a solid lifter flat tappet camshaft with ductile iron adjustable rockers (similar to LA types). They're good and strong, and available new. 440 Source have cross bolt caps as well as girdles for B/RBs. You'll need it with the rpms it will turn and the power it puts out. Smog 400 blocks are the best for strength and bore thickness of any of the stock blocks but best to pay to have the core shift checked ($100) as you'd hate to spend up on all the mods only to find the block is no good when it turns 6700rpm and nudges 800hp.

@@Moparmaga-1 well in response to your first part that may or may not be true. The second part is irrelevant filler.
