Very familiar with that hanging idle issue you are having. My DRZ400E uses the same carburetor and it had the same problem for a long time. That's from the idle circuit being lean or leaking air essentially. You can get midbody gaskets for those old FCR's from AllBalls and that is usually the fix. Or it's something with the throttle plate leaking. Which eventually happens when the body of the carb wears out. When these carbs are working properly they do work very well so I think fixing that is worth pursuing. Also the suspension is probably shot given the age and that's probably worth redoing as well. Anyways, congrats on getting that old clapper running.

@@Hunters-Garage Yep, that's exactly how my DRZ was. When cold it would want to idle about right, get it warm and it would idle fast most of the time, turn down the idle to be correct at that moment and ride around some and the next time you stop it would stall.

I had a YZ400F - it was a disaster - tough to start and parts where hard to come by, when you put in the camms I saw the auto decompression and straight out knew it was a 426, when setup properly those things are aggressive as all heck - they can even take on a 450 in the right hands. Something I noticed, you should replace that cam chain as soon as you can as it most probably got a beating when the valves took a tumble. Good job so far and good luck - 4strokes are a lot of money to rebuild and maintain.

@@Hunters-Garage In a heads up start a 450 will kill that bike . For one that bike is probably 30 pounds heavier than even the early 2000's bikes . I worked on lots of those 400 and 426 Yamahas back then , biggest problem with them is the oiling system on them was terrible. Lower rod bearing failures from inadequate oil supply was very common. Riders that ran them hard blew them up regularly. Bikes built from 2009 /2010 and up are much better designed and much for reliable.
