For many years there was a hill climb 998cc turbo mini @170bhp based in the Midlands, was in the shenstone and district car club iirc

There was a 180hp turbo a-series race mini in early 1970s. Look up Complan mini. Quite a few 200hp turbo a-series minis around now. Some with 16v heads making over 250hp, with max torque at 4500revs. Its not the bike engine that makes this thing fast, its light and RWD. That said, Fastest mini in world race, FWD turbo 16v a-series was still faster on track then both FWD and RWD bike engined minis in race.

I maybe should've been more specific! Some of the engineering on Minis and A-series engines has been fantastic, and people have gone to incredible lengths and costs to extract the most out of them. Never mind just having more than four gears... I was thinking in terms of an engine which just does what it does, out of the box, and is near enough the iconic 1275cc.

Fast, but could be faster: 1. Sound high-geared. Engine bogged down in several corners 1:20 2. Lifts inside rear wheels a lot. You can see the lift and even hear the rev spike… 2:04 Of course I’m just an armchair critic on KZitem! Planning to build one of these for the street. Can’t wait!

@@StanleyKubick1 why do keyboard warrior's think that just because someone makes an observation and asks a question about something that there curious about, have to have someone spit there dummy out and come out with you go build one then because they think there being smart, another guy says it's down to the narrow power band, an answer that I understand. For clarity I am in the process of building a mk2 ford escort track car with a genuine 380bhp cosworth engine a lot of work and time has gone into preparing the car with a lot of work carried out by a lot of clever people working on me and my sons car.

@biryanikebab yes had plenty part's of them over the years, got my escort from grease it looked to the most part solid but once sand blasted the tin worm was plainly obvious but it's well on it's way now another year and it should be ready to rock.
