I did mine 2 years ago , its much easier if you just remove the engine covers and do it from the top instead of from the front like you did. No need to pull the pump. The shaft is is held on by 4 bolt on the front of the crankshaft pulley , just remove the 4 fastener. slide the shaft into that coupling that you showed.Put on the belt , tighten , reasemble fastener and covers Done.

I am glad you made this video, I have a 580C which came after your model, appears to be about the same process with minor differences. I will need to dig into it in the next few weeks. my fan belt is missing half of the ribs and is looking ugly. I better replace it before I start "using the machine"

If you are not using the machine much, you might consider a "take apart" link belt by Finnegan? for $35 , but it might be hard to install in the tight space. A lot less labor. My last OE belt from Case lasted over 20 years .

Just a tip, fit two belts, one spare, cable tied clear of moving parts, when a belt wears out, cut the cable ties and feed the new belt on the pulley and adjust . I have done this on a few machines in the past, downtime reduced by many hours

I have a 75 case 580b and was faced with the same task. I replaced the belt with an industrial multi link belt. you can unhasp one of the links and thread it around the pump drive shaft and hook it up again. if belt is too long or short you can add or remove links as needed

Wish these could be used on automotive cam belts as well.... In YOUR intended application, are these "multi-link belts" as durable and reliable....???

Just replaced the belt on my Case 580 BCK tonight. I used a Accu-Link Adjustable Link V-Belt, 3L Profile, 3/8 Top Width, 4 Foot Length. I removed 5 links and stretched it on with a piece of coat hanger. I was able to snake it down around the bottom pulley pretty easy. 1 hour tops. I would never tear into my old 74 BCK unless I had to. I burned the last belt when I used a Oxygen lance to get the axle pivot pin out. New pin, bushings, new oil pan (as it broke the axle mount off) and she's on the road again.

Almost as fun as replacing the radiator! Im replacing my radiator, water pump, and fan belt on my 580ck right now. When i worked at a Cat dealership we would always ziptie a spare belt inside so the next replacement was a cinch. Its kinda tough on these old girls though because there isnt much room.

removing the side shield covers still does not address the fact that you have get the belt over (around) the hydraulic pump shaft, which is on the other side of the radiator. I didn't want to remove the radiator which is probably fragile and risky on this old of a machine. Thanks for your interest in the video.Always looking for better ways and ideas.

I have a 1968 580 CK. Looks to be almost identical to yours. I'm wondering why you didn't take the engine cover and front side plates off to replace the fan belt that way. I recently replaced the fan belt, radiator and thermostat which are all easy accessible once the cover and sides are off. 10 bolts and about 10 minutes to remove the covers. Just curious.

What size belt when it has alternator.?

I noticed that the plug on your alternator was not connected. Does it charge still with only the wire running to the starter?

Yes, that is a 1-wire alternator

I would, except it starts every time and makes me $145 an hour. And also it has been paid for 41 years ago.

Thanks for the video! How about a A- Link belt from amazon, they are adjustable, taking links out or adding them, therefore they disconnect so you you can install without removing the shaft.

I just ordered a link belt for one I am working on. The tractor has an oil leak up front, so the existing belt was just mush, and no longer working to any significant degree. If oil wasn't going to run the belt regardless, I might put on a standard belt. Link belts are used in industry (for the same reason, not having to disassemble machinery). Make sure you get a rubber belt, there are some "adjustable belts" made out of hard plastic, my guess is they are close to useless.

I had a belt go on mine and put a link belt on it took 15 min tops, works great and has lasted years. I used the cheapest link belt I could find online.
